Wait.  Aggy firefighters?  Lotsa jokes to write with that.

Yep, even indirectly.  I once worked with a guy who got his bachelor's in biology at West Texas A&M in Canyon.  He moved to College Station to get a master's in ruminant nutrition at aggy.  The first week that he was there, he saw a large plume of smoke near the airport next to A&M, so he watched the local news to see about the plane crash.  Nothing.  Two days later, he sees a bigger plume of smoke in the same area.  Another plane crash that goes unreported on the local news.  He's freaked out that two plane crashes could be covered up so thoroughly.  When he asked a prof about it the next day, in class, the room busted out laughing.  The prof then informed him that the smoke he was seeing was from the fire school, which is next to the airport.

There is a cemetery directly under the flight path across the road at one end of the runway there.  If a plane crashes on landing or take off there, we'll get a real life version of a classic aggy joke.

The student loan thing is just wild to me.  The last guy was trying to cancel 10-20k of everyone's outstanding student loans, or at least forgive the interest and cancel any that already paid back the principle. Like, do you not see that as your OWN interest?  Literally nothing Republicans have done in the last 30 years has been anywhere close to giving middle class or lower people that much of a break on taxes or anything.

The only thing even close to it is the Covid checks, increasing child and various tax credits, and now these potential "$5,000 DOGE checks" that are certainly not going to happen.  Like what monetary benefits do you people with less than 200k in assets get out of a Republican president?  These people are too stupid to even have their votes bought with policies that save them money.

I'm sure few even knew about that. Many people are hearing all the culture war noise Fox and the right wing gremlins pump out and none of the stuff the Dems have actually done or tried to do regarding, you know, governing. I'd love to hear why this bitch thought Harris was so bad, I'm sure it was 90%+ propaganda/disinfo.

Obviously it's because she laughs too much and isn't a serious person. Need a more "presidential" person for the job, like the commander coocoo bananas! Who knows what new quagmire he will create? Invade Greenland? Create concentration camps? Cripple the economy with tariffs?  Anything is possible with him in charge!

Wrong! It is not possible to do something that helps the average person.

One thing I heard pointed out because of how Biden didn't deliver on student debt (despite it being via the acts of Republicans) Trump has been able to say "See this is a promise that Biden made that he couldn't deliver, come to me." I'm not saying it's right (and in fact I think it's moronic to believe Trump on anything), but being able to point out how a guy can't deliver is powerful stuff.

That's what she said.   Lol.

But it is still taking a long time for people to wake up about that to Elmo for some reason. I'm talking about the business side of his dealings. I think his baby mammas know all about the rest.

Like delivering on a wall, ending the war in Ukraine on Day 1, etc.  Oh wait, if Trump doesn’t keep a promise then it was someone else’s fault.

There’s a type of young person who is raised by conservatives and because they’re young and natural contrarians adopt a leftist affect to rebel against their parents. But if you look at their politics, 99% of it is hating liberals, because they’re actually conservatives who just want to pretend they’re somehow different from their parents. So they’ll say they won’t vote Dem because Biden didn’t cancel student loans (ignoring that even with SCOTUS interference he still cancelled a ton), but the real reason they voted Trump is that they’re conservatives.

Same with the Muslim community. They are conservative, so they have to come up with a "reason" to note vote for Harris. That reason is Gaza.

The gibberish allows his supporters to fill in blanks with whatever eloquence they wish to be there... like listening to Boomhauer.

Looking into my crystal ball...

https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2025/05/05/congress/congress-fema-funding-00329662

Quote

The Trump administration is on track to run out of cash for disaster relief this summer, and the House’s top appropriator has been asking for an emergency request from the White House.

FEMA estimates that it will be down to about $5 billion in the disaster relief fund in June — just in time for the start of Atlantic hurricane season — before running out of cash by July or August. By the time the new fiscal year dawns in October, the Trump administration predicts it will have $8 billion in disaster costs it cannot pay, unless Congress clears an emergency aid package in the meantime....

Noem has privately told administration officials that she wants to eliminate FEMA’s role in funding long-term rebuilding efforts and halt multibillion-dollar grant programs that help communities prepare for disasters, six people told POLITICO’s E&E News earlier this year.

Not saying the west coast won't potentially burn down or be struck by an earthquake. But the likelihood of that is lower than the gulf and SW states getting devastated from a hurricane.

And super-ironic given Trump's record on delivering.

But the same thinking applies to the CPFB and many other things that exist to protect regular people from robber barons.

Like forcing people to repay fucked up student debt, people should be forced to pay $25-50 per overdraft because they agreed to in a contract of adhesion.

I heard Anne Applebaum on Prof G today and maybe this is just what has to happen?

Her explanation about Alexander Navalny was that he was able to link the corruption to the people and how they were directly hurt and it let them really see Putin was corrupt.

This likely is what is going to be needed. And the Dems need to be ready with this. When a big event happens and FEMA doesn't show up there needs to be a clearly spelling out of Well DOGE cut X, which reduced FEMA, we warned them about future issues and now here we are - you don't have fresh water or food.
