Honestly, the problem is far less the Democratic parties fault, although of course, they bear some fault, then it is the destruction of news that pretends to be objective.

Having spent at least seven decades on this planet, it is my opinion that we have essentially the same amount of uneducated gullible mooks as we ever did.  What we did not have are supposed news outlets like Fox News spreading completely false news to injure one political party while completely ignoring the broadcast of news problematic for their preferred political party.

And while I get that people will depend on Facebook and their friends and family for some information, it was Rush and the GOP who convinced a large part of the country that there is absolutely no true fact to be gleaned by reading the Washington Post or New York Times or any newspaper that is not MAGA supportive.   I grew up watching the news in the 60s and the objective facts in the ABC NBC and CBS nightly shows did not vary that much in content.    They more or less gave straight news reporting and then people argued about what the facts meant.   There were no such things as alternative facts.  THAT situation is the most damaging.  Once you convince a large portion of America that they are a disloyal non-patriot if they receive news from anywhere but the Dear Leader’s source, there is nothing a democrat can say on a stump speech or commercial that will penetrate through that thick steel curtain of stupidity.

When people talk about the better talking points that Democrats could make, they gloss over the fact that a third of the country will never see that point - or if the commercial starts to come on - they will turn the channel or start talking transgender operations during the rest of it.     Advocating for better messaging is obviously a great thing, but it seems to ignore that one side has made it a religion not to listen to or believe that messaging, be it better or not.

That in my opinion is the bigger problem. A third of the country totally embraces self-induced voluntary ignorance of the other side’s alleged facts.  Until that changes, there is very little that the Democrats can do except wait for the GOP to run the country so far in the ground that they look for an alternative.

Yup.  Trump is just a symptom.  This path has been set since Reagan and been going on for decades.  Pubs run on racism, hatred, and tax cuts for rich and exploding the defecit.  Dems occasionally get elected to clean up the economic resultant disaster, then the morons of this country rinse and repeat.  Every American alive has now essentially forgotten real pain and suffering experienced by prior generations.  Unfortunately there is no short cut for it.  No cute slogan or heart felt speaech is gonna cut it.  We are due a complete economic and social disaster.   Extreme pain and suffering for millions.  Maybe then, and only then will we get some fundamental changes to avoid another Trump for the following 80 or so years.  Buckle up, lay back and enjoy it.

Agree with many of the recent points. Here is what I think the Democrats need to do.

They need to focus on one theme over and over and over: the fact that Republicans are lying about everything. And attack their “news” sources relentlessly.

And then point out fact via fiction over and over on every single issue, as a quick side note, not a main focus.

Hammer the lying theme home for the next 3.5 years relentlessly, and nothing else. Forget the “working family” crap, “the rich paying their fair share”, and every other tired message that has failed to resonate.  Attack the root cause - the truth and lying.  Attack them. Don’t say things that can be attacked. Win the crowd. Win the election. Win the mid-terms.

Conversely, I disagree strongly with the strategy of ramping up the far left progressive messaging in an attempt to draw in new voters. Why? Because the election showed us that young people are more complicated than just wanting progressive government.  They’ve shown they also can be victims of disinformation. And important segments of those potential voters do have real concerns about the overstepping of the government for minorities, and other issues.  For example young professional white males need to be won too. Trump’s campaigning brilliance was saying things that appealed to every potential voting segment, including racists, nationalists, etc. While the Democrats shouldn’t lie like Trump, or target unsavory segments, they should also not alienate large voting segments.

Because people already WANT to hate. There is a pile of sticks already smoldering, all you have to do is pour a little gasoline on it. We've spent this country's history telling a segment of the constituents that these other people that don't look like you are lesser than you and that's why they need to live and go to school over there. They are less intelligent, and uncivilized. Your violence is okay. You had to exterminate all the Native Americans because they were savages. Black people needed to be kept in place or else they would rape all our women. Take the Mahendra Patel incident. If that happened in an era with no store video he would go to prison for years, even though dude is a well educated engineer and owns multiple properties in the community. All it took was for some white lady to accuse him of doing something and he is sitting in jail for 45 days, evidence to the contrary.

This country is falling behind other industrialized nations precisely because of the above. We cannot allow socialized medicine because some undeserving brown person might take advantage of it. Don't believe me? Let's look at Mississippi. It is no coincidence that the brownest state in the union is also the worst. Cannot allow investment in infrastructure or make any efforts to bring any industry. Their efforts to keep the status quo have prevented any growth. Wallowing in shit since the 1870's.

Zero kidding here -- I'd absolutely prefer Col Jessup.  Because, while he was completely wrongheaded about it, his motivation at least included a genuine goal of protecting the country.  Col. Jessup wasn't looking out for Col. Jessup (well, not only looking out for himself), he genuinely intended to serve the greater good, even if his vision of how to do so was twisted.

There is not a single atom of Donald Trump that is not singularly focused on feeding his selfish ends.

Jessup was also competent.

With all due respect, this is a childish opinion. And, I mostly agree with avoiding wedge issues. Where we differ is on the ease of running on fundamentals. But wedge issues dominate the cycle and do so spectacularly.

Fundamentals starts with campaign finance reform. Thats not an easy win, especially with the forces stacked up against it: SCOTUS, Congress, Foreign influences, and our own media (who sits at the trough).

Yes and no, I think there was another thread where the trans obsession is starting to backfire, its almost like people decided to vote for Trump based on their wallet and their wallet only. Let them waste money talking about irrelevant issues, meanwhile go meat and potatoes how you are going to do handouts for people that need it, Kamala could have won had she been singlemindedly populist from the start.

Campaign reform is just a bandaid at an even deeper level 40% of the population is in a fascist cult this means that Trump winning is a coin flip, this was a result of Fox News, Talk Radio and most distressing manosphere podcasts for children, Newsom's son with a feminist author is a 13 year old Charlie Kirk brainwashed moron. The next generation are joining the cult from very early age, Campaign reform is not fixing this.

For me, corruption is the all-encompassing message.

Trump, his oligarch buddies, and a complicit GQP are rigging the country’s entire socioeconomic system against average Americans in plain sight. Frankly, it’s pretty fucking apparent and straightforward to point out with inumerable examples across the board. Plus, it doesn’t require a lot of higher thinking or complicated explanations. Finally, as a phenomenon, corruption doesn’t have an inherently liberal or conservative bias, and it’s not racially tinged or about any marginalized group.

Every ad, speech, or argument should begin with the thesis statement: “You are getting fucked by the most corrupt administration in US history.”

Then, follow up with umpteen examples based on the specific concerns of whichever audience is before you, whether it’s made up of old people (Medicare/Social Security), small businesses (tariffs/preferential tax breaks for megacorps), families (tax break for billionaires/environment and safety regulations) marginalized groups (they already know this), young people (education/student loans), etc.

Again, their corruption is widespread and out in the open, but Americans are too stupid or blinded by their hate to see how it hurts them. The gift is just sitting there, wrapped in a bow under the tree. Even if you have to grab, unwrap, and set it in their lap, do so.

Yes to both. Even if it doesn’t work, it’s still the truth. And I would rather go down screaming the truth than pretending what they (GOP included) are doing is just normal politics. Corrupt liars resonates and is the truth. Shout it to the rooftops. Fuck everything else.

Lies and corruption are all that Trump and this regime offer. It’s all out in the open for anyone to see, and it takes very little imagination or exaggeration to explain.

It’s a clear, concise message that should be easily comprehensible to the masses.

Yeah, the tax cuts for the rich and exploding the deficit began with Reagan. The racism and bigotry dates back to Barry Goldwater. Then it was Nixon who employed it successfully and it’s been a fixture ever since.

Not sure of veracity, but I was watching some weather-youtube channels to see if my house was going to Oz tonight, and I heard something along the lines of "we can't guarantee the accuracy of this information because this service uses Starlink and the storm basically is blocking out the signal."  The internet we deserve.

someone who pops off and talks massive shit while truly not giving the first fuck about who gets shrapneled would go a long way toward helping mass the troops, then they turn over the reigns to a get-shit-done “i know people who’ll make your ass disappear” mean ol’ fuck kinda like LBJ who happened to have a massive wand between his legs and who has left a giant trail of hot bitches in his wake would be ideal.

Senator Chris Murphy was saying how the brazen corruption of the AF1 nonsense is breaking through to voters.  I don't see it at all.  It will be forgotten next week.

It's not that Americans are not seeing it. It's that even people who didn't vote for him do not care about that as a priority. Many have families and are doing all they can just to make it day-to-day. When your society functions like ours is currently it will either keep following the moron leading it off the cliff and into the ocean or it lets everything run its course. I think using history as a guide that this will be a hard fall and a massive rebuild of the country on every level. We will make it to the other side of all of this, but when or how is anyone's guess. Just know that regimes like this do not last. The collapse of them can be catastrophic, but we will make it through. It's the repairing all of the damage for the next 20-30 years just to get a reset with the rest of the world that will be the hardest.

Fully agree. But it doesn’t have to happen like that. It’s all avoidable.  That’s what is so frustrating. This is completely self-inflicted.

Everything that happens in regimes like this does come across as avoidable, but to the folks in it they are swept up in the euphoria of the movement. In a way none of it is avoidable when millions of people leave common sense at the door and go full blown cult members. It sucks, but that’s where we are at. You just attempt to mitigate the damage as much as possible and do what you can to enjoy life with those you love.

Yeah we are back to 2020, survive the dictatorship and hope we elect a competent leader that does not just decide to roll over, and have a normal presidency.

A normal presidency, or government, will not be a thing for the foreseeable future. Even if Dems win it all back. If they do, it means they will have completely changed the way they campaign and govern. And if they don’t, that means Rs are still in power and this shit is continuing.

There’s no going back now.

This. This is the immutable truth. For the foreseeable future, we will be led by Trumpist Republicans, or Dems who have finally figured out how to play the Trumpist game.
Either way, populist, lie-based idiocy, practicing cruelty against the opposition is our only possible future.

Why don't they just hire Americans to work the cattle and work in the fields? It's not like it's hot or anything.

They're not really blaming Trump or themselves in that audio. They're blaming their workforce for fleeing. They voted for this shit thinking that Trump would put the workers in their place. They want hardships for the people they depend upon for their profits, enough that they feel uncomfortable demanding better wages or conditions but not quite so much that they leave altogether

That is exactly why you put all those nets around the building - for when people break their ankle chain and dive out the window of the factory.

We need this 200 million more times and at multiple degrees further into personal economic collapse and then maybe, just maybe we might have a chance to restore some sanity to our government.

Nope. The alternative was voting for they/them, socialism/communism/Marxism, and true "patriots" being persecuted. They'd vote the exact same tomorrow, even if it meant sure personal ruin.

Bingo.  See the legislation Louisiana is working on passing - you can injure or even kill your undocumented worker, and have ZERO liability in a civil suit.

"Make treating humans like chattel legal again" is their motto.  They don't want to get rid of undocumented labor.  Not even a little bit.  They just want to get rid of anything that would make it costlier than outright slavery.

We are past the 50/50 point on whether the SCOTUS will take up a case to rule that the 13th amendment flat-out doesn't apply to undocumented persons.
