Stumbled upon this one on my morning walk today. Was looking down at my phone when I noticed movement in front of me. He was getting out of the way from me quicker than I got away from him.

SAIP (I can't believe that it hasn't been . . . but not on this page).

Duuuuuuuuude. Not sure I'd try a joke like that on someone of that age and weight. Lucky he didn't have a coronary.

But I'll give the pranksters credit--that totally would've freaked me out, too.

There was a picture of a Western Ratsnake in a tree on the Nextdoor this morning.  Three or four people identified it as a rattlesnake (one very specific - dimoND back rattlesnake) and one person said it was either a rat snake or water moccasin.  I think I prefer snakes over most people.

Yes, I know it’s the wrong thread.

anyone know what the hell this is and, do I release it in my 1/4 acre back yard as a long-term pet or in the woods?

Im going with generic tortoise.

No rot. Was gonna plant a bunch of volunteers in my compost in that planter but didn't wanna drown an innocent family of mice. They were pretty damn cute. Far enough from the house for me not to worry too much about it. I've got some other pots that will work in the meantime.

I'll check back in a couple weeks to see if they're still there. Afterwards I was scolding myself for lifting that thing up while standing right next to it in flip flops. Coulda been a big ol' snek instead of mice chillin under there.

had a few mice invade. Told wife, can I release the python under the house? She looked at me in horror. Poor little mice. Did not remind her she feeds that worthless critter frozen ones. Let him earn his damn keep.

Coachwhips are cool snakes.  Sight predators which is why you can see them periscoping out of the grass.

Back in middle school, before there were really any rules, a buddy and I traded a Texas Alligator Lizard to the science teacher in exchange for a five and a half foot coachwhip.  Can you imaging the uproar today if an 11 year old kid came home with a large snake from a middle school teacher?
