The Lou Brock- Ernie Broglio trade was pretty damned bad. Brock would be a perennial all star and HoFer. It would be comparable if, in 1994, the Cards traded Broglio for a younger Willie Mays.

This is pure bitchassness.  Obviously the death threat people and the racists need to buried under the AAC but these are fans that care more about the Mavs and winning then the organization.

Has that actually been confirmed?

It sure felt like Nico/Mav's front office mouthpiece Tim McMahon saying that and no one else.

Dallas Police Department's Public Information Officer tells me, "There are no known threats at this time," directed at Mavericks GM Nico Harrison. This comes despite ESPN's report yesterday on added security measures due to "death threats" ahead of Saturday's game vs. Rockets.

Calling McMahon a mouthpiece is hilarious. His nickname on The Hoop Collective podcast is Banned McMahon because Cuban revoked his media credentials once. Kidd has publicly excoriated him for not being positive enough.  They don't like him precisely because he's not their mouthpiece.

Of course there were death threats. When stuff like this happens in the social media age, when are there not? Kickers get death threats for missing field goals. Mavs have their own security team so they handled it themselves and didn't report it to LE. That is, according to Mouthpiece McMahon. I find his story to be more credible than,  "Mavs fans are taking this pretty well! Not one death threat!"

The "death threats" angle is pathetic. If you really feared for your life you would want LE looking into it and to have a person arrested. My guess is that they saw some stupid ambiguous online comments and used that as "justification" to act like the fans are the ones in the wrong. It's a desperate ploy that borders on propaganda.

After the UHC CEO, there’s no way a death threat or threats would just be brushed under the rug like that. Multiple people would be reporting it and it would under investigation

Are the death threats in the room with us right now?

90% of the time the "reports of death threats" are bullshit.  it is a sympathy/shiny object play.

Fucking clown-ass franchise.

Fans: "Fire Nico; Sell the Team."

Team: "We are concerned with player safety from the fans."

Take your medicine you fucking assholes. Highlighting it will just make it worse. I hope every game is filled with "Fire Nico Sell the Team" chants from the entire arena. Try kicking everyone out dumbfucks.

McMahon has been easily the most outspoken critic of Luka in the Dallas media for years. Some of it is valid, but there has been a bunch of it that is laughable. Now he has a book on Luka coming out in a few months and needs to be at the center of the story to push his book.

Never trust someone in the media who has a book coming out to be neutral.  Sports media, political media, etc.  All they care about is pushing the book and making money, not the truth.

It's pretty evident Nico's been using Macmahon to get his side of the story out the past week.  As for the past couple of years, can you think of someone else who has apparently also been critical of Luka this entire time?

The Mavs brain trusts had better brace themselves. Every time the media gushes about Luka in LA being a match made in Heaven, the white hot rage of the Dallas fans will grow hotter. It won’t end until Nico leaves to work for the Adelson’s casino empire and the Mavs organization is left in a pile of rubble.

ESPN incessantly slobbing the Lakers knob last night was just fucking brutal. It was like a two hour plus commercial for Laker exceptionalism. The announcers were giddy with the idea that it was somehow destiny that the Lakers end up with another generational talent to build around. They were still incredulous that anybody could be so stupid to trade a 25 year old who is a top 5 player in the world. Like, "Can you believe what the Lakers just fell into? There's Rob Pelinka.... the guy who magically made it happen. He must have the world's largest rabbit foot up his ass! Isn't this great!"

I don't even like Luka or the Mavs and it made me want to puke. I can't imagine what you Dallas fans are going through. Those fuckers were due for another post-Kobe style walk through the desert in Lebron's twilight years and we were robbed of that.

And I want to hate Luka for all this... but it's not his fault. It's not like he asked for this. He still looks as shell shocked as the rest of us that he's playing with Lebron. Jesus, what a colossal unforced fuck up this whole thing is. How does this shit happen in 2025?

Seemed like the NBA was finished with totally incompetent and/or malevolent GMs and owners in the vein of David Khan, Donald Sterling, and the like.  Felt like for the most part the fans were left bickering about fringe moves at the end of the rotation and whether or not ownership would hold its nose and go into the tax/apron.

Boy have the Mavs proved me wrong.

Lol. Simmons and the dudes he had on talked about this on a trade deadline pod. They were like "this feels like the NBA of the early 2000s" and Khan's name came up.

The AD instant non-contact tweak feels like the basketball Gods spiting Dallas. He's actually been fairly durable the past couple seasons and has avoided those type of nags.

I can't hate Luka. I feel bad for him. Shit - I never hated him on the Mavs - I've always been fairly indifferent when it comes to him or Jokic winning.

That said I hope the Lakers never win a title with him under contract. I hope they never make the Finals. Frankly - every game they win with Luka on the court will make me slightly sick to my stomach.

Which - frankly - makes me more impatient with the Spurs. My internal monologue is screaming - "we need to get good and start challenging these fucks NOW".

That may be a little unreasonable but shit, man. I feel like Wemby needs to keep them from getting another dynasty going.

Funny. I did not hear the Simmons trade pod, but him ragging on David Khan isn’t anything new. And Khan deserves every bit of all the vitriol directed his way - truly a disastrous tenure.

Maybe I'm reading the room wrong here, but I'm getting the feeling that the Lakers may not be all that popular around here.

I haven't loved what the Spurs have been doing this season either so, you know, you're in good company.

Man I like Cuban but a T-shirt at a Mavs game is not going to incite violence

Did Nico seriously not see this coming? Did he really think the fanbase thought Luka was too fat and that all those points and NBA finals appearances were a problem?

I think Cuban is trying to stand up for the front line staff since nobody else from the front office seems to want to do it. What’s crazy is that you’re hearing more from a minority owner than the controlling group.
I want to hear more about success and culture from Patrick DuMont, Ballknower.

I get it. But it comes across as “criticizing the regime is akin to hate speech”

If you don’t want to be criticized, don’t go into the public sphere. Actors, writers, politicians, athletes and sports owners

The one guy escorted out wasn't wearing anything that mentioned Nico.  So the Maverick's response that they were escorted out for violating NBA rules by what they were wearing was complete bullshit.  The big fat guy had on a sweater with no writing, and no hat.  He got escorted out for mouthing "Fire Nico" on the big screen.  That is such bullshit.

There's already one of those trucks with a big sign on it doing that. At least it was on Saturday.
