Cody Campbell is Mark Cuban 26 years ago. Mark Cuban today is frugal compared to these new billionaires. It's why he sold the team. I bet his donation is reasonable for normal rich as fuck people.

At this point you walk into that portal player meeting like a boss and say here is the offer once you walk out that door without signing the deal it is void.

It feels like at least a few of these players are going to regret not taking the reduced offers Texas was offering. Whatever.

Agreed.

So you're Moore and Baxter and you end up at... Kentucky? OK, cool, but is that really what you were envisioning? How much more are you really making and you're at Kentucky now.

Lockett gets in the motherfucker. Great, now where are you going and for how much, actually?

That "jerry jones" comment with a like from Baxter is actually kind of encouraging. It indicates a plan and a process, which are two very good things to have in a time of chaos. Even a weak plan is better than none.

We have the concept of a plan!

Yup! Wisner is at 5-7 FSU now for maybe 15% more money than Texas offered. Great choice buddy. You get to hope to make a bowl game and hope you get developed there.

Well, she is South African.

As some of you may recall from recent events, it is possible to retain players that have entered or publicly intended to enter the transfer portal.

So, we’re only mostly dead at this time.

While fully believing the staff fucked up with their approach and overconfidence, I will say two things:

  1. Other schools are dealing with this shit too. tOSU just lost a 5-star freshman WR. UGA just lost a multi-year starting safety. LSU lost a 5-star Freshman OL. It's the new world.

  2. The run game will still likely improve. Unless Goosby goes pro, the OL will still likely be better than last year. Plenty of average iOLs that can enter and even average is an improvement. Raleek Brown would be a big upgrade as starting RB and there are others out there too.

I actually ran the numbers on this. We have 2 less players in the portal and 4 more players on our roster than the average SEC team sans Ole Miss.

And the other conferences are faring much worse than the SEC.

It's literally everywhere and somehow we are slightly above average even in the SEC, which is a good 5 portal entrants better than the rest of the P4.

Assuming they can’t skirt it due to saying they don’t actually live in Lexington, the state of Kentucky has a flat 3.5% income tax and Lexington has a 2.25% local income tax. So they’d have to get 106% of their Texas offer to break even?

Was a quick google search so didn’t see if there are any caps or exceptions.

Good on you for doing the work. I was thinking the same research was needed for us to better understand the picture. My guess is the leverage starts to flip from the sellers to buyers soon as the players remaining in the portal start panicking that they don't have a team

When this mess first became apparent, that was my thought. When any executive staff starts smelling their own farts thinking they are going to win every deal, it’s a sign of immature, ineffective management. I was constantly bringing my sales team back to reality until I finally got a smarter more experienced guy in to lead the org.

And I love how the “don”t panic” crowd continues to serve up their false bravado, as if they think the rest of us don’t realize they are just throwing shit out on a message board to try and look calm and collected, but meanwhile are clutching their favorite stuffed animal in a corner weeping. This is a train wreck. It’s okay to say that it is.

Most people are making fun of the ones panicking over stupid shit (Washington, acting like Texas is doing worse than the rest of the country by far).

Nobody has disagreed that the OL is a complete clusterfuck.

  1. Are we poor? No. One of the richest public universities in the nation.

  2. Did we overpay to land all of these 4 and 5 star recruits over the past few years? Possibly. And now they want raises.

  3. evidently, our million and billion dollar alumni don’t give a shit about football. But it’s their money so whatever.

  4. Did we miss our window to buy a championship? Sure looks like it.

  5. I don’t give a fuck how anybody wants to spin this – bleeding vaginas, tampons, etc. There’s absolutely no way anyone can feel OK about what’s happening.

  6. Something is fucked -including next year’s team at this point.

  7. Been monitoring the portal and NIL from the beginning. Always thought it would be the downfall of college football in general. But as a stance right now, everyone else seems to be playing the game just fine.

  8. Neg away. Zero fucks given. This flat out sucks and shouldn’t be happening to a school like UT.

Thanks for this. The counter though would be that nearly half of the conference went through head coaching changes, and most of those schools have like 30+ transfers. Thats skewing the numbers a lot.

We don’t have a head coaching change to blame.

Trey Owens salty posting every time a player portals out from Texas leads me to believe he quit when Sark brought in Matthew Caldwell. That's my explanation as to why even KJ Lacey immediately jumped him on the depth chart.

Some have been realistic in distinguishing between OL and elsewhere, but others have been making blanket statements that “all is well”, which it’s not. And things are very close to not being just an OL issue with rumors of others headed to the portal they don’t want to lose.

Where is Trey headed? Mary Hardin Baylor? UTEP? Sam Houston State?

Or, and hear me out here, roster building is fun as fuck and frenzied recruiting is exciting. If Sark has been honest and good to his players, most of them aren’t being assholes and he’s having a blast right now getting his dudes paid.

This is like when Surly sunshiners kept pointing at Herman's high recruiting class rankings to silence criticism, ignoring the holes at specific positions.

Of the seven SEC schools who have lost more to the portal than us, four fired their head coaches and are going through a full coaching staff reset. The other three (MSU, Mizzou and blOU) have significantly smaller budgets/corporate NIL outside of the revshare cap.

Georgia, Alabama, and A&M (the three SEC schools we should specifically be comparing ourselves to) have all lost less. Ole Miss is still in the CFP so we'll see how that shakes out.

The Office Thank You GIF

I work in government. This all feels like the last year of the governor who is already in his second term. Everyone knows he’s leaving and they need a new gig lined up before a new boss forces the hand.

This also prohibits new, especially younger, talent joining the team because it is a dead end road and they might as well go elsewhere instead of deal with the fallout.

My guess is he signs with Texas. He wants a guaranteed payday and that’s cool. I hope he gets it. I think Dillingham said his comparison to a pro back was Kenneth Gainwell if memory serves correct.

I think we're getting carried away with the negativity.

I'll be the first to admit that we need to start showing some progress on the OL. We will, simply because the numbers demand that at this point. The question will be whether our additions will be players with some pedigree, players who can be developed, or JAGs. Stay tuned.

The rest of the offensive needs are still up in the air. The results could still be good, okay, or not so okay. Again, stay tuned.

It's a complicated landscape where most SEC schools are losing a lot of transfers, fucked up stuff is happening, and trends are still evolving. We were never going to get everyone on our fantasy list, so at least wait until the results are in before cursing the world.
