If you want to die, Lake Grapevine and Lake Lewisville have long been the place to achieve it. Joe Pool a distant third. Now, I’ll see myself out before this goes full CR.

I was just thinking that I couldn’t imagine kayaking on Lake Grapevine or Lake Lewisville on a weekend or holiday. I’m not sure I’d even want to be out there in a boat. Too many drunks making bad decisions and putting lives at risk.

If OP puts "No CR" in the title it's not allowed to go CR. It's science.

Edit the title, OP!

They achieved the American dream of killing someone with a jet ski.

It would be a rare thing indeed to meet someone on a jet ski who isn't a collosal piece of narcisistic shit. I don't know the why of it, but that just comes with the territory.  They are a cancer on just about any body of water.  Apparently the same rule applies in Venezuela.

Nearly got run down by one at SPI while I was SUP-surfing. I think one of the big issues with them is that everyone who gets on one wants to make sure they are close enough to shore or other people to  show off that they are riding a jet ski.

I am one-hundred percent a hipster asshole about this at the beach. If you are doing anything motorized in the surf zone you are a colossal dipshit who is doing the beach wrong.

Per Chat gpt:

1. Visibility + Volume = Attention-Seeking Vibe
Jet skis are loud, fast, and often ridden close to shorelines where people are relaxing.

That combination can feel intrusive, like the rider is saying “look at me!”—even if they’re just having fun.

2. Solo, High-Adrenaline Sport
Unlike team sports, jet skiing is typically solo, with an emphasis on thrills, control, and performance—traits sometimes associated with egocentrism.

Some people associate thrill-seeking with narcissism because it can involve risk-taking for attention or validation.

3. Aesthetic and Status Signaling
Jet skis are often marketed as luxury or lifestyle items.

When someone posts photos of themselves on a jet ski in exotic locations, it can be seen as flexing or trying to project status.

4. Disregard for Others
Riders sometimes ignore no-wake zones, get too close to swimmers, or act recklessly—creating a sense of entitlement.

That behavior aligns with what many perceive as narcissistic traits: disregard for others, rule-breaking, self-centeredness.

5. Social Media Culture
The rise of "influencer" content showing people doing stunts or posing on jet skis reinforces the stereotype, even if most riders aren’t doing that.

You’ve fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well known is this; never go in against a Sicilian, when death is on the line! And an even slightly lesser well known is do not fall for the 45 degree body angle in selfies.

Doesn’t matter what he thinks. It matters what the law says (or at least it used to)

In Texas, it appears the punishment is a fine up to $10K and between 2 years and 20 years in prison.  So, not the death penalty?

Remind me: what happened to that blonde chick who did precisely that over in Tarrytown a few years back?

180 days in county and 10 years probation. So not the death penalty? But she’s white and comes from a wealthy family in Southern California so the justice system works a little differently for her.
