That building houses the training facility for the bomb squad... So lets try to hold off on the insanity for a little bit before we get some better information.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been officially confirmed. However, KTLA’s Eric Spillman, speaking with sources close to the investigation, reported that deputies were in the process of moving unexploded ordnance recovered Thursday night when one device detonated.

When asked by KTLA’s Frank Buckley if the detonation was accidental, L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger said “all roads lead back to that.”

“I think it’s important for the Sheriff’s Department, for Sheriff [Robert] Luna to get out and dispel any rumors and also provide the facts and fill in the blanks on that,” she added. “I am confident, though, that that is what the conclusion is going to be.”

Sad situation.

Not buying that. They found ordnance on Thursday with the capability for serious damage, and they took it back to "base" with them, rather than detonate in place?

Still have my money on a training accident.

This.  Why would you bring back risky uxo 1) back to a building, 2) around multiple people?  You dispose of it in-place, or you transport in a secure transport, then one person handles it (at least, that would be my expectation.  Then again, I've never served on a bomb squad.  I've blown up a toilet or two in my day, though).

Right, but you did it while you were still at Pancho's, you didn't bring that unexploded ordnance back to home base.

That's not entirely correct.  I recall one specific Pancho's trip in college.  There were 5 of us.  Our house had 4 shitters.  4 of us had called dibs on a specific shitter before we reached home.  One dude was the odd-man out, doing the "trying not to shit my pants" dance outside as he waited for a shitter to open up.  So, we ALL made it home before we did the damage.  But one guy suffered more than the rest.

Such is the nature of Pancho's.  Pancho's can teach you some real life-lessons.

We have no idea where it was originally located.  Was it in someone's house?  We still blowing in place?  An urban area?

I can't speak to LASD protocols, but at least in Austin, that's what they did this past spring.
