A lot of safe places here.

Lots of that schedule makes sense. But are either Cruz or his campaign aware how far apart Copperas Cove and Cypress are?

San Antonio and Seguin. Okay.
Houston and Pearland. Okay.
San Angelo. Okay.
Abilene and Brownwood. Okay.
Killeen and Temple. Okay.
Copperas Cove and Cypress. Uh.

Shouldn't Copperas Cove just be done with Killeen and Temple? I guess he's stopping in Cypress on his way to catch a flight out of Houston, just seems strange.

Patience Grasshopper. It's a long time until November. Not yet time to crack open the war chest.

I get that, but when  you're the underdog and your biggest problem is name recognition, it's time to start spending. And it sounds like Beto agrees.

Yes.  And wise spending can increase the war chest.  The better he does in polling, the more people will donate, and timely ads can help with that.

He raised over a million bucks just from Cruz's first ad.

Money won't be a Beto problem.

Saw multiple Beto signs in Yoakum and Hallettsville this weekend and not a single Cruz sign.

I did see a Cruz sign in Bellaire the other day though.

My long-time GOP friends are starting to wake up and listen to Ted.  Multiple have posted the anti-Beto meme (although seriously....is the fact that he was a rocker at some point supposed to be a negative in this day and age?  How the fuck old are we?).  Bottom line, Ted and his devotees will run against the straw man that they've created: vote for a Dem, and you might as well be voting for Karl Marx himself, and exiling yourself to a Siberian gulag, and giving away all of your possessions to work on a state-owned potato farm!

Ted's going to get EXACTLY the same voters he got last time.  There may be some dip in enthusiasm and turnout, but not a huge one.  Beto isn't going to be able to draw many Cruz voters away.  He's not going to be able to get many Cruz voters to stay home.  He's going to have to outscore him -- meaning get more folks to turn out and vote than otherwise would.

Which, I'm sorry, should be the focus of all these races in 18 and 20.

America wins when people fucking turn out and vote.  All Texans win when we aren't almost dead last in midterm turnout.

"These young kids and their crazy rock n roll will get us all addicted to marijuana cigarettes"

Seriously Cruz only has fear tactics to get people to vote against Beto.    What other platform can Cruz run?  He can't run on reform, anti-Trump, etc.   He can only scare people that a vote for Beto is a vote for Pelosi and Schumer.

And MS-13.  MS-13 is threatening to overrun places like College Station, East Texas in general, numerous ranches, Williamson County, basically everywhere there are Republicans, MS-13 is out to force feed them drugs and marry their daughters.

Lake Highlands update:  The late blooming Cruz signs are coming out. (Alongside the Pete Sessions signs.)

The Cruz folks all seem to be olds.  Beto = old hippies and under 40.

Noticed a shit load of Pete Sessions signs this morning in HP. Those same folks haven’t had or didn’t have any Cruz signs out, they’re just embarrassed to publicly support Cruz, but you know damn well they’re going to vote straight R. Fuck.

Both sides use fear, because fear works. Look at all these stupid identify theft ads telling the olds how the dark web is going to come and get them.

Personally, I hate it regardless who it’s coming from. It is a weak argument and usually rooted in hysteria.

Examples:
They’ll take your guns
They are going to reverse Roe v Wade
They are going to lock up your family
They are going to allow gangs to roam freely

All bullshit

Yes both sides use fear when it suits them.  But since this is a Beto/Cruz thread, it doesn't appear that Beto is the one using fear in this election so far.  And perhaps he is during his speeches, I don't know.

Dems have the advantage in this election cycle because Trump has realized their fears in many cases.

I dunno.  The nutbars told us about the Wal-mart jails, and the government shipping prisoners all over the place without anyone knowing where they went (ahh, Jade Helm).

Problem is....it's just for the dirty beaners, so now all those Jade Helm types are fine with exactly what they warned us about.

Point taken, I wasn’t trying to defend Cruz, just expressing my general distaste for the tactic.

the Obamas need to make an appearance on this, best in Houston and Dallas to energize the black vote since it appears Beto is only down 100k-200k votes at the moment.

Beto needs some excitement in the Valley as well as he lost it in the primary to Sema Hernandez.  Presumably he will win the general election in the Valley over Cruz but he needs more than just a win down there.   He needs a big turnout win to overcome the conservative areas of the state.      Does anyone know if Hernandez won in the Valley for a particular reason or did her name mainly help her?

Her name ended in "z" and nobody knew who the fuck Beto O'Roarke was in March.

This picture is circulating on Facebook (LOOK AT THIS HEATHEN IN A DRESS!!!!) as well as his burglary/drunken driving arrests from 20+ years ago.  It's starting.

Beto needs to seize that photo and make it part of his own ad.  Take the bite out of the attack, and own the narrative.  He's an everyman--he was in a band in his youth; he committed youthful indiscretions; and now he's a grown-up looking to provide grown-up solutions, and not petty name-calling and un-Texan sycophancy.

they’re now going to vote for Cruz for absolutely laughable rationalizations.  I heard Beto is Marxist, and - this one was beautiful - that if Cruz loses the GOP will say it is because he wasn’t supportive enough of Trump, so he needs to win to keep Texas from getting more Trumpy next time.

That hurt my brain.

I’m starting to see this, too.  I’ve talked to two traditional R voters in the last few days, whom I’m thought had come around on Cruz being deplorable and at least sitting out the election rather than voting for him, but they’re now going to vote for Cruz for absolutely laughable rationalizations.  I heard Beto is Marxist, and - this one was beautiful - that if Cruz loses the GOP will say it is because he wasn’t supportive enough of Trump, so he needs to win to keep Texas from getting more Trumpy next time.  Sigh.

To be clear, I’m probably just going to sit that one out.  Beto is clearly a nicer guy than Cruz, and I won’t shed a tear if he beats Cruz (in fact, I would find it entertaining), but I don’t agree with the vast majority of his positions and ultimately don’t want to vote for either guy, albeit for different reasons.  But I don’t at all get someone who doesn’t like Cruz feeling obligated to vote for him as if Beto is Hitler.

Just curious, what are your reasons on Beto? He seems fairly data/evidence driven in his policies, and is open to changing them if the evidence says he was wrong. That is my primary criterion for any political candidate.

I'm also extremely bothered by "I'm going to sit this one out."

That really pisses me off.

I'm volunteering with a friend to do some phone calls and door knocking on Beto's behalf.

Never thought I'd be involved in any political activism beyond some small donations.  Actually, my default setting is cynically apolitical.  But the Republican Party as currently constituted needs to be burned to the ground.  And there's no better place to start than Rafael Cruz.

This shall be called the Rabbit strategy.

Now, everybody from the USA
Put your motherfucking hands up and vote my way
Everybody from Texas state
Put your motherfucking hands up! Look, look...
Now, while he stands tough
Notice that this man did not have his hands up
This Raffy Cruz's got you gassed up
Now, who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
One, two, three, and to the four
One Trump, two Trump, three Trump, four
Four Trump, three Trump, two Trump, one
You're Trump, he's Trump, no Trump, none
This guy ain't no motherfucking Texan
I know everything he's 'bout to say next and
I am white, I am a bit progressive
I did pose for a picture in a dress with
My two boys in our punk rock band
I do travel this great State in my truck and
I am a Democrat running in Texas
Attack ads have started, they'll be coming next with
He's a socialist or maybe he's a Marxist
I'm still standing here screaming, "Fuck your rigged markets!"
Don't ever try to judge me, dude
You don't know what the fuck I've been through
But I know something about you
You don't defend your family, now ain't that true?
What's the matter, dawg, you embarrassed?
You let a yankee talk shit about your parent
But not just your father, he talked shit about your girl
Then you begged him please can I be part of your world
This guy don't wanna battle, he's used up and done
'Cause he's about as Texan as Celine Dion

Well that was bad enough, I will stop before everyone's migraine gets worse.

Except I don't think as much as Hernandez because you do see party affiliation on this ballot.

My recollection, which could be faulty, is that Cruz won 40% of the Latino vote in 2012. That was, however, before the wall bullshit.

Random GOTV efforts among Latinos may not be that helpful without those voters being educated on the candidates.

"I looked better in that dress than Ted Cruz has looked in anything in his entire life."

Yeah throw that picture in front of Texas women and they'll break their fucking hands smashing the BETO button on election day.
