Charlie Kirk assassinated at an event in Utah (by a 22 YO groyper)

Charlie Kirk would not even have comprehended how badly Christopher Hitchens was destroying him on literally any debate topic.

It's like taking the slightly stocky guy at your local bar who thinks he's tough and putting him in a cage with prime Fedor Emilianenko.

Well at least we know some of the "evidence" of the roommate/partner bullshit that was not being explained.

It seems likely that his comment about his dad being very MAGA is also indicative of the fact that the kid isn't alt-right or a gryoper.

I’ll tell you when you spill the beans about how much you contributed to the Tyler Robinson legal defense fund.

This is the last post I’ve read from him. I honestly don’t think most of y’all understand how much the Ingnore/Block mechanism can do. Lowers the blood pressure, is only one of many examples.

Are we dutifully lionizing Hitchens as an orator? Serious question because the only thing I remember about him was his writings; his book(s) and his prolific essays. I remember him being a wonderful writer and his Vanity Fair pieces, but can't say I actually remember any debates or oral vehicles.

Oh, yes, Hitchens was a prolific debater, frequently taking the side of science and reason against creationists and other theists.  Tons of clips on YouTube.

And ol' Charlie wasn't nearly as good as some of them.  They had the losing side, but they were better at logic at least.

Charlie's shtick was prepared remarks in a kind of flowchart so he could quickly shout down whatever came his way.  It helped that it was his forum, so it was acceptable for him to do 90% of the talking and interrupt.  It also helped that he was much more comfortable on camera than most of the kids he went up against.  But it was all debate smoke and mirrors.

Christopher Hitchens would have intellectually stuffed him into a locker.

No worries. These will all be explained in children’s books in the next few years.

Joe Rogan was a big fan apparently (I did some searches of his videos) and it does seem he was quite the wit. The english accent is always worth an extra half point too when it comes to public intellectualism IMO.

Yes, Hitchens was so smart that even Joe Rogan managed to notice it.

To be fair, Joe Rogan is impressed by the talking Zoltar fortune telling machine....

What seems to be (from outside looking in, you can tell me if I'm way off base), but it seems to be this is a teen male dominated thing (e.g. incels, groypers, gamergates, etc.) and it's not very typical for teen girls to get wrapped around the black pill dystopia chronically online axel.

No. For my daughter it wasn't about being an incel. She is pretty, tall, a good student, and an excellent athlete. It was simply nihilism. As a guy with a degree in philosophy I recognized it immediately as many philosophers wrote about it. Friendrich Nietzsche wrote about it extensively. She simply was asking what is life for and why do I have to do it? She saw no reason to wake up everyday and go through the process. Now she seems focused on being there for her mom in old age. She still has days though, particularly if something negative happens.

Go watch Charlie get destroyed by a Cambridge student named Tilly. She is easy on the eyes too.

He's definitely talking to the BlueSky Dems, they've probably been giving him a lot of shit over the last few days.

But it's funny that the plebes trying to figure out motive are being admonished for getting it wrong while the Trump administration continues to blast their lies all over the airwaves.

My favorite part of the Bible is Ecclesiastes.  Has nothing to do with Jesus and not much to do with God, which works for this agnostic wanderer.  "All is vanity and vexation of the soul."  I love it when you pick up an ancient piece of philosophy and it hits like it could have been written yesterday.  We meatpuppets have been dealing with this shit a long time. (There is nothing new under the sun.) It ends with (paraphrasing) "just do your job and don't worry too much about it."  Apparently it was added later, but I can get down with that.

Don't think so.  Pretty clear, by his own text, he is not further to the right of CK.

I’m not convinced Robinson actually wrote those texts. The fBI had his phone for 4-5 days and certainly had a chance to make some of that stuff up. Especially if they didn’t like the narrative that they found in the phone originally.

Call me crazy, but I don't think it was unfair to speculate on the only hard evidence at the time (obscure bullet markings, furries, and Pepe the Frog costumes). At BEST, Robinson at least knows what Groypers are. Considering Nick Fuentes has had a grudge against Kirk for years that his crazy followers have previously acted on ain't exactly some wild conspiracy theory.

That said, anyone conclusively stating that he was a full-fledged Groyper (and I don't agree with immamac changing this thread title) was obviously jumping to conclusions.

Most have been pretty steadfast that anyone expecting an obsessive political activist--for either side--probably isn't going to get that they want.

I was aware that the internet was a fucked up place for kids. But my boys are only 3 and 1, and the only other kid I regularly interact with is my 15 year-old nephew, who is at least pretty tame outwardly. Learning some of the specifics of the shit they are exposed to is terrifying.

I'm only 37, but I'm starting to feel old as fuck. The world is becoming entirely foreign to me.

why would any actual evidence be released right now? I'm skeptical of just about everything being purported as fact right now.

After the Klippenstein reporting and seeing the texts from the charging document, I don’t think he was a groyper or alt-right or blackpilled. One of those seemed like the most likely explanation because the engravings of memes on the bullets was consistent with previous public shooters radicalized by that part of the internet.

Seems to me like he grew up a pretty typical conservative kid then met a trans girl and probably began softening on trans issues as a result. I think this has it right:

Things are getting a bit more clear. For one, he is clearly psychotic or at a very minimum very very very dumb. The killing seems to be ideological, with the text to his girlfriend that his dad had become more MAGA. But the memes references seem to indicate gamergate nihilstic behavior.

No doubt the trans stuff is going to be what they go with.

I think the should do the moment of silence when he was shot. Really sell Charlie’s message about unity, respect, and acceptance

I really wish the Dems knew how to play the modern game.  Please introduce the “Charlie Kirk Unity Through Health Care Act”.  You know, ObamaCare but rebranded.

Other suggestions:

”The Charlie Kirk Unity Amnesty Program” for immigrants.

”The Charlie Kirk Civil Rights Unity Act”

” The Charlie Kirk Equal Rights Amendment (for Unity)”

I mean he was a modern day Gandhi right?  Everyone should support his message of peace, love, and unity !

But no worries, the MAGA Utah authorities seem to be doing their best to present a pre-cooked narrative of the shooter being a leftist, omitting and ignoring any mention of the groyper/fucked up complex and unbalanced worldview that looks to be the actual case.  We are going to get a curated narrative that matches up with the desired story by the MAGA team running things, and nothing that muddies it even in the slightest.

The great victory of their narration here is that the focus of the story has been deftly shifted from the turd that Kirk was to using the motive of the killer to sanctify Kirk in spite of his excremental actual history.

It doesn't take much to distract the simplistic vision of the major news media from the big story of what it means that the GOPs are celebrating this hateful fascist to the less relevant story of the politics of the shooter.

Anti-republic party:

We need two things:

  1. A rallying point for a new surge of hate to justify furtherance of fascism.
  2. A distraction from the surprising problem of Epstein.

Luckily for us, somebody shot a fuckwad that we can make into a martyr! Strategy?

With remarkable swiftness:

  1. Define Kirk before the bumbling media can.
    • Flags at half mast.
    • Vice presidential conveyance of the saint's body to DC
    • Moments of tearful silence and prayer.
    • Swear bloody vengeance.
  2. Blame the radical socialist's history of violence which we've all seen (talk about shameless lying!)
  3. Specifically, go after trans-sexuals who are invading bathrooms and crowding women out of women's sports. "They're killing us all!"
  4. Announce crack down on (criminal persecution of) illusory socialists and trans-sexuals to protect our precious bodily fluids.
  5. Keep flooding the zone.
  6. Wonder why nobody is trying to stop us.

I just assume it's working. I'd be delighted to be told that I'm missing out on the big backfire.

Interesting online post from a woman who is in the Texas BBQ/Food Scene. She says Robinson's roommate is transmaxing. I have to admit this part of the incel world is news to me.

I have a 14 year old son that is in Connections Academy - online charter school. He’s basically home schooled in public-ish school. He’s online all day most days playing games or watching something. He’s on Discord (has his own channel). He’s on Roblox, etc.

I say that to also say that I have full access to all of it and go through it often. I don’t watch it as much as I used to, as he has a solid circle of friends on there that are all fiercely private. They don’t let “strangers” in.

They talk shit about games and school. They make dumb jokes. Outside of being online, they sound like the kids I coach in soccer.

The internet is a terrible place, but it’s not hard to navigate if you stay all up in your kid’s business. He knows he has no privacy online from us. It’s part of our agreement of letting him on there. Basically - just be overly involved in your kids online life and what they are doing and it’s not much different than being overly involved in their regular life.

I feel like I’m losing my grip on sanity and reality myself with this stuff. I read those texts in the charging document and am just having trouble believing that two 22 year olds who are into some truly odd corners of the internet culture text in completely literate English with complete sentences and everything. It reads like a script but I also feel crazy myself for even suggesting it.

Part of this is my deep reservations that the Patel FBI can be trusted on anything.
