This is such a ridiculous post.  The defense was on the field for 40+ minutes and 86 plays because our offense was going 3 and out constantly. Of course the raw yardage number will be high. Kentucky ran a shitload of plays because our offense kept giving them the ball. We held Kentucky to 4.6 yards per play, which is an elite number, especially considering how many plays they had to be on the field. The fact that our defense didn't get gassed and start to fall apart by the end of the game was absolutely incredible. This was 100% a culture win for the defense.

And this is one week after the defense held OU to 6 points and created 3 TOs.  UT has a top 3 defense in the country by almost every metric. This unit is absolutely elite. Anyone who's doing anything other than praising our defense for winning us the last two games has no clue what they're talking about.

I said they were elite vs blowu, but 4.6 ypp is not good against the #107 ranked offense. Guess who else held them to 4.6 ypp - fucking Toledo. And USC (who has generally sucked this year) held them to 3.9 ypp, GA 4.2. If KY were even a top 50 offense I would've never made my post about the defense, I woulda said great job. But they were not elite in this game and certainly weren't elite vs FL. SJSU has a much better offense than KY and even UTEP has a higher ranked offense than KY. If you think 4.6 ypp is elite against an offense as bad as KY's then you have no clue what you're talking about.

It's interesting that when people know they're wrong they always resort to name calling.

Jesus Fucking Christ. We held Ohio State, the undisupted #1 team, to 200 total yards and 2 scores (one of which was a miracle jump ball) in their house when our psychologically broken QB couldn't hit water from a boat. I'm going to have to ask you to leave.

And I don't think holding KY to 7/18 on 3rd down is very good against an offense that's not even in the top 100. And they were bad vs FL. The defense simply should have been better vs the #107 ranked offense. And they let KY get in FG range in 51 seconds.

We have one of the best defenses in the country, and they are keeping us from being a 4-8 type team.

Our basic defensive philosophy with the putrid offense we have is we are going to come out and make you grind down the field.  If you get down the field we are going to do our best to hold you to 3....we don't think you can keep this up the entire game.

But don't take my word for it.

And more plays = more chance at turnovers.

Certainly worked against Mateer.

Let him throw it more and reap the benefits!

Correct. Every single game is going to be close and we can beat literally anybody. We can also lose to literally anybody. We are at the mercy of our offensive performance week to week. That's why I cant rule out 2 losses nd making the SEC championship or losing 5 straight to close out the year. What a time to be alive!

I think my biggest sports pet peeve is when a really shitty offense continually puts a great defense in terrible positions. Like over the course of a season. And when the defense plays an A- game and the offense plays an F game, you have people wanting to bitch about the defense.

Ultimately, btw, the defense will eventually break. Then things get really fun.

We are in full prayer mode. Hoping against hope, that this is the week Arch can consistently hit wide open receivers. Until then, the D and special teams need to keep working miracles against some pretty damn good teams.

SJSU - 3.79 ypp - Elite

UTEP - 4.39 ypp - Elite

SHSU - 2.17 ypp - Elite

Florida - 7.03 ypp - PISS POOR

OU - 3.74 ypp - Elite

Kentucky - 4.59 ypp - Elite

Total - 4.28 ypp - ELITE

You are an insufferable retarded mongoloid and should sit your dumbass down on the couch.  Just do us all a favor and shut the fuck up, because you're stupendously wrong.  You're Tim Brando levels of STUPID!

Small silver lining, but at least the offense isn't turning the ball over a ton. Like, having a bunch of short offensive series sucks because it gasses the defense, but we at least did not give UK prime field position. A fumble or interception could have been the difference in this game.

Here is the shocking thing.

https://bcftoys.com/2025-fpv

Texas is #1 in Net field Position this year. Up from #53 last year. Lot of that is on the punt teams, but also turnovers. Texas is currently 21 in the nation with 6 lost turnovers. They were 130th last year (26 turnovers in 16 games). Teams are not getting a lot of short fields like last year.

You would think the defense is playing a lot more this year, but so far it is pretty much a wash. Texas is 80th in TOP (29:28) and Texas was 74th in TOP (29:51) last year.

Calling out the defense for KY is certainly a take.  I'll repost some of a comment I made on the game thread post-game

Football is complementary. You think for one second PK doesn’t know what’s going in with the offensive side of the ball?  He absolutely does, and so he knows the one thing he can’t do is allow the opposition to get quick points in buckets early and bury things before they ever really get started, particularly when we are on the road. So he sets up the defense to prevent that. The expense is that you get a lot of the dink and dunk and underneath stuff that KY got tonight (and Florida got at the beginning of that game, and hell, OU was getting early as well). You then tighten up as the field shrinks, as we generally have and hold them to minimal points for their efforts save Florida.

Setting up a defense vulnerable to tons of big chunk plays and sudden scores would be a fucking disaster for this team.

PK is the one coach who seems to know what the fuck he is trying to do strategically, given the abilities of his unit and the overall team.

1ST Half was not complementary football

Ku - 1st drive 11 plays 59 yards 5:43 off the clock (15 mins real time)

TX - 1st drive 6 plays 18 yards 2:07 top

Ku - 3 plays 9 yards :58 top

TX - 6 plays 32 yards 2:27 top

KU - 10 plays 37 yards 6:06 top

TX - 7 plays 42 yards 3:35 top

this is not the Offense leaving the D on the field forever, this is the D getting manhandled and not being able to get off the field

Exactly how many points did we give up in all that?  Oh yeah, zero...right.  And yes I realize they could have attempted a FG on the first drive and missed one as well.  Those drives were a grind and never really gave KY any first half juice.....sorry you don't appreciate our Iceman approach to defense.

really great write up there...

The defense could probably tee off more and be more aggressive if they had faith the offense would keep the ball and make up for it if they made a mistake.

2:1 TOP

Drives of 11,10,8 and 7.

Fatigue is not an excuse in the first quarter. Offensive pressure ratchets up as we see will not be getting many possessions.

Maybe our defensive game plan was to keep Arch on the sidelines?

Defense did what they needed to do when it mattered. Held UK to 13 in regulation.

Offense couldn't get into the red zone a single time and would have been shutout if not for Niblett's returns

Injury news incoming.

More later.

Per CJ Vogel (Tuesday 5:15 PM)

Hearing Georgia is the targeted return date for Taaffe from his thumb surgery.

That would mean he would be sidelined for Mississippi State and Vanderbilt, then have the bye week to get back to speed for UGA in Athens on November 15.

given what we've seen from him this season, he wasn't terrible against Florida.

No, he wasn’t terrible. But I wouldn’t say he played well. Although, I don’t think many QBs would have with how bad our OL was.

Imagine watching that Kentucky game and coming away pissed off at the defense. It might be time for me to take a couple of days off from the football board.

This has always been a thing with certain portions of our fan base. When a badass defense is carrying a horrible offense, they immediately jump to shit all over the defense. Even in games where we were only competitive because of the defense (and Niblett, in this case). It's a brain chemistry thing for some people I guess that I will never understand.

There was some game in 2010 where we were down like 7-3 at the end of the second quarter. The guys behind me had been screaming at the D and Muschamp all game up to that point. The D gave up a four yard rush or something and one guy yelled out "Get your head out of your ass Muschamp!", and I turned around and said "It's almost halftime and we've given up 60 yards of offense" (or whatever it was). His reply was "Yeah but we're losing". I think these people are just morons.

Takes a ton of practice and sound assignment football.  Lot of options no pun intended requiring the QB to be really cerebral and "quick". I dont think that plays in to Arch's skill set.  Arch is more power and not twitchy , plus it requires the OL drive block and sustain the block one on one, we dont really do anything like that with our schemes.  Our go-to is outside zone.  From what ive seen of Coastal Carolina who also runs it, is they have/had more athletic QB's.  Vince ran it.

Are you suggesting that Sark should find a way to revert back to his 1996 self and secretly play in Arch's place? I think that would work.

But seriously even if we did find a few plays to help spring this offense to a few explosive plays we still have that problem of them committing untimely penalties and tripping over themselves. They have to just play discplined and not fuck it up for the defense and special teams. Play conservatively until you can execute.
