We don't know the exact location, but it's at least 12 nautical miles out, 13.8 regular ones.

If Michael Phelps had a baby with Janet Evans, that prodigy is still likely fucked.

13.8 miles in a pool is doable, but 13.8 miles of open ocean are a whole different thing, and its going to be a lot more than 13.8 miles with the water moving you around. That's if they even knew which direction was land and managed to swim directly at it. Even a minor orientation error drastically increases the distance.

And you're ignoring the fact that they are still trying to get their drugs to America. I would be willing to bet that the drugs sunk (because they would be dense as fuck) but assuming they somehow floated, these Super Swimmers are going to push many times their bodyweight in drugs to America.

Yep, I had that part in, but took it out for brevity and simplicity of argument. The odds of reaching land at all are minuscule, but zero odds of reaching the United States.

Cocaine floats for a while before sinking, lots of photos and video of it.

Fentanyl has a density of 1.087 vs. 1.101  for cocaine, so should theoretically float for a while before sinking as well.

It's all academic though. In no case was anyone on that boat a further threat to reach America and our military could have detained them long before they had even the minuscule chance of reaching anywhere else, let alone the US.

Wish this was an open session but word will quickly leak what he says. I want to understand how drug operations were continuing after the videos we’ve seen of the boat becoming very inoperable.

Bullshit. I know a lot of them. They could lecture at UT tomorrow on a wide range of things. Give me an 18D on any development project. Best medics in the world.

Do not confuse SF with SOCOM. It is a component that was wrongly used.

And McRaven is a SEAL. Not SF. SF set up their dive school.

Not being a dick, but this is a subject I know well.

We've had this convo before, SF/SO pedantry aside, there seem to be a fair number of borderline or outright psychopaths among their ranks.*

Perhaps it's the nature of the missions, in addition to the particular psychology required of such operators.

If we want to be strictly legalistic about this, the killing of Bin Laden was legally kind of fishy in the sense that there was no declared war, but at least a facially valid AUMF.  Although fishy, it was on a lot firmer ground than this.

In mild defense of this shit, there is apparently an OLC memo justifying all of this.  It seems to bear most of the hallmarks of Trumpco legal work, that is, exceptionally shitty.  And there is reason to believe that the legal advisors closer to the commanders have been purged in favor of Trump loyalists.  It is probably hard to buck all this.

But the comparison between Holsey and Bradley is going to be hard to dodge.

*you say Socom was wrongly used.  I assume you mean launching missiles from land doesn't seem to implicate any of the skills and strengths of various special operations units available.  That seems to me a very valid point.  Do you think it involves a different chain of command that is easier to manipulate?

So in my experience, it is really dependent on several factors. I've had many friends/acquaintances among the SEALs, most people know I'm from Virginia Beach, and know what is based here, and I can tell you it's runs the gamut from totally unassuming family guys to outright psychopaths.

I've also seen some guys who were truly gentle souls be broken by the work.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I don't mean all of them.  For whatever reason, SEALs seem to get most of the press and with that comes exposure of seeming psychos.

Bradley seems like someone that deserves to be thrown under the bus. Just hopefully that POS takes the people above him down with him.

Supposedly Admiral Holsey is going to testify, and it’s being claimed he resigned over orders to kill civilians.

37 years of an outstanding career, I don’t see him taking the fall for Major Hegseth,

Is Pete going to run in 2028? MAGA will love this testimony about their badass Secretary of War.

How do you spot a SEAL in the water? Look for the hair gel slick.

Got ya man, and yes, in all units there are fuck ups. As noted earlier, when I spoke with my father, 30+ years in Special Operations, about this event he said without hesitation, War Crime. He participates in quite a few forums of retired SOCOM dudes. Most feel the same way.

This is a bad operation, it is straight up stupid and it is murder.

Now back to the next war. Odds on Colombia being next?

Even if they could cling to the wreckage, or survival float long enough, they'd be completely at the mercy of the currents. Lifejackets would improve these odds, but still would leave plenty of time to detain them.

Even if you strain credulity hard enough to think that there's a minuscule chance the above might happen, it's still illegal to kill them.

Such an excuse would be ludicrous from a general who has never left the land, but Bradley is a SEAL.

You're overthinking this.

The guy just needs to say something just plausible enough for Rs in congress to say "well, he's the expert" and rubber stamp his testimony.

I get it, but that always seems crazy to me. It’s like the Bush administration saying essentially that waterboarding is not illegal torture because we wrote ourselves a secret memo that says it isn’t.

My best friend and next-door neighbor's father in law was a Frogman (Vietnam era) and later in the teams.  Knowing him well for 40+yrs and being around his friends I can tell you for sure a lot of those boys are pretty seriously broken and yet still high functioning.  Based on the stories they would tell (when hammered) if 10% of it is true, it's no wonder they're a bit touched.   PTSD for days.

<csb> Just yesterday I was on the phone with that friend and the topic of dogs came up.  He mentioned his old dog (who hated men and more particularly inebriated men)  I also hated that dog, I'd been bit by that fucker on two separate occasions just out of the blue.  His father in law was the only man that dog seemed to tolerate.  He told me his father in law came home pissed and a bit roughed up with his "new" dog in tow.  Evidently he showed up late to a team party.  Everyone was trashed and the dog (who belonged to another team member) was tied to a tree AND a truck.  They were drinking and taking bets on what would happen.  His father in law took the dog, knocked a few guys out that objected, and left.  I'd never heard that story before.  I absolutely believe it.  I still hate that fucking dog though</csb>

While I think it was horrific, Bush's team at least wanted to provide their team with legal cover. Trump's team will write an excuse/legal brief well afterwards.

Id be willing to bet that the Torture Memos are legal Magna Carta compared to this secret memo.
