We are heading to Paris today, so watched Before Sunset last night.  I love that movie so much.  When Delpy is on the boat, with the sun hitting her hair, I don't know if anyone has ever been more intoxicating.  The scene in the car breaks me every time.  A true masterpiece.

Have we talked about A Desert yet?

Don't think it'll be for a lot of people, but if you're a fan of the desert scenes in Lost Highway, Nocturnal Animals, and Too Old to Die Young, you might dig this

Is the primary plot device thirst?

I enjoyed it.

I suppose Joe Strummer was a handsome fella in his own right, but Rhys Myers is a little too pretty.  And I don't even see Michael listed in the cast, but whoever played him was definitely too good looking. I could see them uglying up Toby Kebbell a little to make a good Mick.

I saw two in the theater last week that seemed to get barely any promotion.  The first was Oh, Hi.  I decided to see it based on Molly Gordon as the lead and co-writer and I thought the logline sounded interesting...a couple goes on their first weekend away together and things go awry.  Nothing I've heard about The Bear has ever caused me to want to watch it but I liked Gordon in the Animal Kingdom show on TNT.

I thought it was just ok.  The guy turns out to be kind of an asshole and the girl turns into a cross of this girl

and Kathy Bates from Misery.  The stuff played for laughs was pretty good but the tone kept going back serious and those parts didn't work as well for me.  Then there was a deus ex machina fakeout ending but the actual ending hinted that everything was fine and they might stay together which didn't really make sense.

Spoiler

We did get to see Molly's tits and ass though so that was good.

The second was She Rides Shotgun.  I really liked the book by Jordan Harper and didn't even know it was being made into a movie.

The story is about a guy who has a hit put on him, his ex and their daughter by an Aryan gang just as he's getting out of prison.  Taron Egerton and the little girl playing his daughter were pretty good together.  I was especially impressed with the girl showing both fear of and love for her dad just out of prison.  There were some good landscapes and a pretty good chase scene.

The ending wasn't as good as the book and went for more of a paint by numbers hollywood shootout.

Overall I thought it was good not great.

I watched "The Way Way Back" this weekend. Never heard of the movie before but it was a great coming of age movie. Sam Rockwell killed it in this movie.

Went to see a movie tonight. One of those deals where the movie is a surprise. This was the movie and honestly it was thoroughly enjoyable. Good memories of all the places they showed in NYC that I used to see every day. The ramp that takes you down from 42nd to below street level at Grand Central reminded me of the year I spent commuting to the city from Stamford. Really good film and I like that they don't waste time on going right into the heart of the matter. I think several of you here will really enjoy this one.

I’ve never heard of this. You pay for a movie (presumably at a discount) but don’t know what movie or even how long you’re committed to watching? Do you at least know a genre, rating, or decade?

It’s a new release that’ll be out in a couple of weeks, but they don’t tell you what the movie is. The tickets are discounted since Monday is a slow day for movies. I have a monthly pass so it doesn’t matter for me. The movies are usually pretty good. This one just had an odd ending, but everything else was really good.
