February 16, 2025Feb 16 Went to see Paddington in Peru last night. If you have kids you DEFINITELY need to take the to see it. Just a beautiful movie overall. Even if you don't have kids this is a movie to go see because you'll leave the theatre feeling good. It was just a film that makes you feel good and I am glad there is more of this type of stuff out there now.
February 18, 2025Feb 18 Been on a Woody Allen kick. Watched Midnight in Paris. Enjoyed it, but just not an Owen Wilson fan for some reason. Blue Jasmine. Loved it and Kate Blanchett was outstanding. Annie Hall. Didn't realize Diane Keaton had such a great voice, and she was total smoke. Classic great movie.
February 18, 2025Feb 18 Rewatch of Vanilla Sky... My god Penelope Curz is ridiculously gorgeous. Ending sucked, but enjoyable. Nothing to lose, didn't realize these two fucking legends were working together
February 19, 2025Feb 19 William Peterson double feature…To Live and Die in LA. Now currently watching Manhunter. Both on prime video.
February 20, 2025Feb 20 Companion - I didn't have whole lot of interest in this, but I kept hearing great things, so I took a shot. It's a really good and creative thriller. I would go in blind if you can, but I knew the premise and it still worked for me. I thought both the premise and the execution of the story were very clever and I was entertained the whole time.
February 22, 2025Feb 22 Watched Margin Call on Prime last night. I was riveted within the first 10 minutes. Apparently they shot the movie in 17 days. Simon Baker and Jeremy Irons were both great.
February 22, 2025Feb 22 Margin Call is A perfect movie in my estimation. The whole cast was fantastic. While the directors other movies were ok to good, his first one is the standout. Reminds me of the Lives of Others director in that his first movie is the standout while his other movies are ok. It’s true what Elvis Costello said, “You have your whole life to write your first album and only 18 months to write your second.” Edited February 22, 2025Feb 22 by dogbreath Add MC

February 22, 2025Feb 22 Margin Call is also an elite YouTube clip movie. You can easily lose an hour doing that.
February 22, 2025Feb 22 Author I watched this one with my kid who was a fan of the books in elementary school.
February 23, 2025Feb 23 Just watched IT. Jesus this movie sucks so bad. Total pile of shit Edited February 23, 2025Feb 23 by NAVY
February 23, 2025Feb 23 Rescue Dawn It's about a U.S. navy pilot (played by Christian Bale) who get's shot down in Vietnam. Based on a true story, action and fighting plays a fairly minor role in the film, which is probably why it wasn't a box office hit. I found it a good movie and worth the watch, but it's not on the level of something like Saving Private Ryan.

February 23, 2025Feb 23 The Monkey. This did deliver comedy with the death scenes. I LOL’d out loud along with the rest of the people there when they happened. This was a well done movie and it went straight to the point of things. I would watch it again. If any of you have a frustrating day mark down watching this one once it starts streaming.

Jesus they totally wasted Simmons. His plot almost was pointless. Damn Rotton Tomatoes failed me. It was that or Conclave and they both were 93 critic with Juror #2 higher audience score. Audiences are dumb.
February 24, 2025Feb 24 After watching King of New York Amazon suggested one of the director's earlier movies. How did I miss this magnificent piece of shit on cable back in the 80s? Jake Taylor as an overly tan Italian tough guy/former boxer/mob enforcer Lots of early Melanie Griffith nudity as a stripper G/G action with Rae Dawn Chong Billy Dee Williams dishing out Italian slurs ala Jack Waltz in The Godfather Basically a NY prequel to Stallone's magnum opus Cobra
February 24, 2025Feb 24 We Live in Time... great movie, but be warned, it will get dusty (Streaming on Max) Trailer reveals the plot. I'd recommend you just get the wife and watch it. Spoiler Edited February 24, 2025Feb 24 by locodos

February 24, 2025Feb 24 I had never watched Stargate. Ancient Egyptian Scifi stuff is always a bit of brainless fun. Frame by frame it was everything a 90s blockbuster scifi should be. Very curious what a "serious" director like Villeneuve or Nolan or Cameron can do to a franchise like this instead of Roland Emmerich.

Now you can watch the South Park imagination land episode and laugh even harder when they try to send Kurt Russel in the gate. Watched The Gorge on Apple TV. Weird, random movie. Kinda fell asleep towards the end. It was neither good nor sucked.

I mean if you're going to have a gimmick that the story is non-linear, why have it all resolve to the end with nothing that makes it worth it. Maybe I just didn't get it, but I felt that it was lacking.

Maybe I just didn't get it, but I felt that it was lacking. Fair enough. The non linear story telling was critical to my enjoyment. As the events unfolded you began to see the tragedy and joy more deeply. If they told it a=>b=>c it would just be some shit that happened to a couple... I mean it still is, but it hit harder IMHO. The ending could have been better and they left a lot unsaid... which is fine but I'd have preferred some more finality
February 25, 2025Feb 25 Wife just went into labor yesterday and already back home... about to watch License To Drive as it kept running thru my head during the drive to the hospital. DYK Corey Haim was only 5'7" and Feldman is 5'5"? No wonder they always played kids lol

February 25, 2025Feb 25 Last Breath. I enjoyed it. Direct and to the point. I did not see the documentary, but this was worth watching. Mark Bonner is a favorite actor of mine from the UK shows I have watched him in like Shetland, Line of Duty and Unforgotten. I’ll also watch just about anything Woody Harrelson is in.
February 28, 2025Feb 28 Deuces Wild. In the great adventures of miscasting, what if I told there’s a movie where Matt Dillon, Norman Reedus, Frankie Muniz, and widow‘s peak Stephen Dorff portray members of Italian-American street gang in 1958 Brooklyn? They even cast Big Pussy as a priest. Just wild, wild choices. Subtract Muniz, set it in Hell’s Kitchen, and make the Deuces an Irish gang and it might have been worked. I know he’s passed, but Brad Renfro is dogshit bad/annoying in everything he was in. I wish he was still with us, and had chosen a different line of work.
March 3, 2025Mar 3 Just watched The Last Duel. I had seen it before, but admittedly, was distracted when I watched it. Watched it without distraction this time. I really enjoyed this movie. Was INFURIATED at the treatment of Marguerite, but thought the acting was absolutely fantastic, especially Jodie Comer. I know this is based on a book, so will be hunting that down and reading it. I would love to see more movies and TV shows based on actual history. I read the Dark Queens in early 2024, and I think that would make a great TV series (or a movie, though you would have to really condense the timeline. https://www.folger.edu/blogs/shakespeare-and-beyond/dark-queens-macbeth-shelley-puhak/

I’m not sure why the movie wasn’t better received. The duel scene is a masterpiece of hand to hand combat.
March 3, 2025Mar 3 September 5 (paramount plus). Interesting and compelling portrayal of true events. 95 minutes long
March 3, 2025Mar 3 Watched Heretic on a flight. Good fun for Hugh Grant alone. Nice short watch, not too gory or scary if you have fraidy cats in your circles.
March 3, 2025Mar 3 Rewatched Bridget Jones Diary. Always good fun. It's wild that Renee Zellweger was considered "fat" in that movie. She's pretty much wheelhouse. 17 hours ago, billfromlaketravis said: Probably Ridley Scott’s last great movie unfortunately. I’m not sure why the movie wasn’t better received. I only watched once so maybe I need a rewatch but I remember feeling like the movie made a hero out of a terrible man and, despite the story of the movie, managed to marginalize its female lead. Anyways, watched the conversation and rear window the last couple days. Both nearly flawless movies. Edited March 4, 2025Mar 4 by hobbes2702
