Does the human who wrote this get paid to write? Because that is middle school level writing, no hyperbole. It’s old-school Livejournal-type drive.

It's ok, considering half of his audience writes in crayon.

I miss Rice's Marching Owl Band (MOB) and all of their antics. Especially when they poked fun of aggy.

We have definitely made them march before the games for years, and not at halftime.

Nah, they ran the exact same show I saw 6 days before at the Arkansas game.  Which is completely fair, given that most of them had likely gone home for the holiday and thus there was no time to put together something new.

And actually since I saw it twice the funny thing is I was thinking what I was hearing at piggy as they formed the skull at the end was the Confutatis from Mozart's Requiem.  The second time I saw it I was certain of it.  Obviously a little different in a band arrangement, but it's lowkey funny (as the yutes would say) given it portended the second half deaths of both teams to come.

Consigned to flames of woe

“We couldn’t get our feet set,” Elko said of the A&M’s defensive problems. “They were getting edges on us. That was the explosive plays they were hitting in the run game. We busted two coverages that led to 14 points. We misfit the run on the quarterback touchdown. That led to an easy touchdown."

Both bands marched, last year and this year and probably most other years.  Visiting band goes first.  When you march as the visiting band you can expect to get mostly booed.

At the OU game, you get cheered and booed at the same time and you hear cheers or boos based on what side of the 50 you are on.  It is awesome.

Yesterday, Longhorn Band shortened their show so that they could split time with the Aggies.

Was the aggy band the only visiting band to march at DKR this year?  I don't remember another?

That’s what playing a much better team will do to you. They feasted on cupcakes all season. Well, Elko feasted on real cupcakes. The team feasted on cream pies. Well, Elko feasted on real cream pies, the team played a lot of soft competition.

They finally played a good team and got put in their place. Elko is still feasting on baked goods, I’m sure.

I don’t either. Visitors don’t usually march, which is why I originally asked about the fighting skinheads marching.

Most visitors don’t bring a band at all and when they do it’s usually a much much smaller version of it.

Dove season.  And yes, dove were moving pretty well that part of the season last year.  Got to watch the game, then go out and have an afternoon hunt, IIRC I got 5-6.  Enough action to keep things moving, but not a limit or anything like that.  Early season early kickoff games are great for that - watch football, then go hunting.

May already been said, I've never been sober after a Longhorn game, win or lose. Can't fathom hunting afterwards.

That said, let's get nuts next season!

I understand that officials almost never get fired or demoted for bad calls. And it looks like poor sports to bring it up. But how in the fuck are the refs that watched Wingo get tackled by two players still employed? I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an egregious non call.

That was right infront of my view.  I was like did two guys not just tackle him before the ball?  Then the aggies next to me were celebrating the much less blatant borderline PI they got a few minutes later.

I did a re-watch of the game today. Boy that was fun! You could definitely tell on the broadcast how loud it was in the stadium Friday night. Such a great atmosphere!

Anyway, one thing that really stood out watching the broadcast was how scared Reed looked to take shots. I don't know how many times this year I've seen Arch stand fast and deliver a ball, knowing he was about to get leveled.

Reed? Notsomuch.

Every time he was about to throw AND about to get hit, he started leaning away, trying to soften the blow, and his throws went (even further) off target as a result.

I like our guy.

The UT social media team did a great job this week. They preemptively ran videos of him claiming to be a strong passer and Elko talking shit. Great work.

Visiting bands marching was much more common in the SWC days. Obviously, the distances were shorter so busses were the transportation mode of choice.

It's not a matter of distance. Back then visiting ticket allotments were much larger and encompassed the band. Now the allotment is much less, and the band isn't covered, so the opposing athletic department has to decide whether to sell those tickets to alums or give them to the marching band. Guess what wins out?

I guess part of not flaunting your wealth is staying at a cheap hotel that shares the property with a Denny’s.

eta: the only dennys that shows up on google maps is across the highway from the drum and is next to the doubletree.  Is that really the only one in Austin now?

All that bragging and then he dropped that.

There are two other Dennys that I know about.  One's at St Johns and 35, the other's at Parmer and 35.  There's no adjoining hotel property at either of those others though.

What was the deal with letting their band march at halftime? Did our band march at halftime at Pyle last year? Before the pause, neither band marched at halftime as the visitors because aggy stopped allowing the LHB years earlier, or am I mis-remembering?

Aggy couple behind me at the game (because some POS Horn fans sold their tickets) was pissed because our fans booed their band. The guy asked if we were going to boo their cheerleaders next. I said if they went out on the field we would.

That's false.

There are no aggy cheer leaders.

Collected on my bet tonight with aggy FIL. Loser had to hang opposing teams flag in their front yard until Christmas. He’s aggy, so he will probably cheat and take it down.

He was just so confident he would win. I was more confident.

that, and blowing by that shit-talking dipshit Will Lee to get to the end zone.

So last year Lee got hurdled by Gunnar Helm and this year Arch turned on the jets to outrun him.

I do actually agree with this comment:

The whole game day experience there is very cartoonish and carnival-like. It seemed like a circus with a football game interspersed the commercial breaks. There were multiple cutesy-like events going on at the same time…a mariachi band playing…all very made up.

Yeah, but it was active and entertaining. I go for the football, but they are doing a good job of entertainment beyond just the football. I would rather have a little space (time) for the fans to generate enthusiasm like starting our own Texas Fight chants as Longhorns have done for 100 years without being told to do so by Bob Cole or a DJ. And then of course “Pooooooooor aggies.”

The other thing would be not just following a script, which they obviously do, and have the awareness to not have a Mariah Carey song along before a big 4th down stand. But, overall, the environment was an A+. Our players were jacked, and the stadium was rocking.

Things are so much better than they were with Steve Patterson, Jetpack Man, and a coach who didn’t know his players’ names. The environment was electric, and even honest aggies would admit so, if there were honest aggies.

Not sure about last year, but the aggy band definitely marched in DKR in 2010. I remember the boos being much louder that year than they were on Friday.

Has everyone forgotten 2011, the first last game of the series? UT band did a masterful and classy halftime show featuring  "Thanks for the Memories".

Then the aggy band followed with a marching sawed off horns.

They didn't like the mariachi band because of their issues with brown people.
