what's the record for # of outputs for a bowl game (portals and NFL declarations included). We have to be approaching it. I'm sure lot of conclusions will be made, good or bad, about the game performance though 😀

It's a football game against Michigan. He's going to play, as he should. The point of being a football player is to play football.

Wrong.

The point is to win a championship. This game is not involved with winning a championship. It is an opportuntiy to get hurt in a game that means nothing.

Playing Arch in this game is on the same tier of hubris as not cancelling our difficult OOC games. We are actively doing things that hurt our ability to achieve what should be our primary goal.

Caldwell should starts?

I'd love to see Sark and team treat this as the most fun game a team can play in.   Big audience on NYE, against a blue blood (in-name), and the last true football before next spring.   Use as many trick / gadget plays as possible.   Let players draw up some plays.  Let Niblett play some QB.  Put Simmons at RB for a few plays if he wants to.  Let Hero return a few kicks.   If he can work in some elements of "we started playing the game because it is just fun" alongside making sure no one gets hurt, that could be fun to watch.

Dead wrong. Dead FUCKING wrong.  So many reasons that it's not even worth the time to list them all.

i tried this 2 weeks ago and the firestorm of negative rep led by the self-endowed was 2nd only to my original take to opt of out the game entirely

however, i had not thought of and was re-educated on the problem of no one else on campus who needs development snaps

caldwell is gone after this game and no one else is here yet so arch it is

No judgement but it always blows my mind that fans don’t watch their favorite team because the game is not the Super Bowl. Surly elite of course.
surly poor like me would watch Texas play Crockett high school and hope we beat the shit out of them. Football is football especially when it’s my team.

No 6th Street or Wilcox on the game thread? Sign me the fuck up.

Shhhh. Let em cook

this is the perfect game. It’s spring ball before spring. It’s developing the roster next year. It’s laying a training foundation of the off season.    It’s hey you ran routes like dog shit in Michigan so offseason we are gonna unfuck that before the season starts.  You don’t wanna wait until game one to find out we are fucked like we did this year and yes we found out game one that this season was gonna be fucked.

Also will be nice for Arch to game in-game reps with the WRs sticking around (bye Moore)

Why do you guys even pay attention to the sport? It sounds completely joyless for you.

Also, why single out Arch as you bawl all over yourselves and rub your twats? Just make the spineless argument you really want to make and tell us all that Texas should have bitched out of this game completely. Maybe wrap all the returnees in bubble wrap until the Ohio State game and then y’all can pound your fists angrily and demand repercussions with the staff when the players all look rusty and out of sync as well.

Seeing Tech in the playoffs and us in a meaningless exhibtition, because our hubris kept us in a road OOC game that should have been shifted to a home game against a cake opponent, is joyless for me. The real question is, why isn't it joyless for you?

Of course we should be playing this exhibition game. The extra practices are crucial. QB is a unique and special position, and Arch should not be put at risk. An argument can be made that Colin Simmons should also not see the field. Everyone else should play.

As for your reference to next season's Ohio State game, that game still being on our schedule proves that some unhealthy blend of hubris & stupidity is driving our program leadership. It should be another cake game to get our players ready for the conference schedule next year, which looks to be rough.

A lot of you seem to value a wide variety of things other than championships.

Like I said, a lot of you seem to value a wide variety of things other than championships. Fortunately for you, Sark and Del Conte agree with you.

I wish a home loss (it it happens) this coming September to Ohio State could feel mitigated to me by a triumphant Citrus Bowl victory over a ramshackle Michigan roster. I'm just not wired that way.

You’re also not wired very well for basic logic. The two outcomes are going to be by and large unrelated. Scream to the rafters that a Rising-like injury for Arch Manning says otherwise, and that will still just be a you problem.

No, a lot of us just realize you're not winning a championship every year and that doesn't mean the season is worthless. If that's the case, very few seasons would ever been worth watching. That's just silly, especially from a fanbase that doesn't have a long history of winning championships every year.  And your 2nd paragraph is just plain silly. No one on here is going to feel great about a Citrus Bowl win if we lose to Ohio State in the fall. Pretty much because one has nothing to do with the other. You bring up Tech as that should have any bearing on what Texas is doing in the SEC other than being envious of what they were able to accomplish in a down Big 12 with no Texas or OU to get in their way. Did you lament being in the SEC and playing a road game at Michigan when we were in the playoff last year?

And I'll recommend the same thing to you that I do to others who whine about what our AD and coach should do as far as OOC games or scheduling, send CDC a tweet or email. He's highly available and willing to interact with people. If it bothers you so much that we're continuing the Ohio State game that we're entitled to receive as part of the contract we signed with them, then tweet him about your displeasure.

That is exactly what I think. Having the school represented by a large number of backup players that would normally never see playing time in a meaningless, somewhat embarrassing game against another school that will be playing scrubs actually damages the Texas brand.

It's akin to Jerry Jones' horrific idea a few years ago when he proposed fielding a team of unknown players dress as the Cowboys to play exhibition games in the spring in Cowboys Stadium to generate income. Thank God that idea never took off.

Throw in the fact that key players like Arch could suffer a devastating injury in this turd of an exhibition game makes no sense.

At least with PK gone, Sark won't have to babysit the defense, so we can finally see what he can do on offense. 😡

we had better not lose to this shell of a team

How are we limping in, especially relative to Michigan?  We're experiencing a 2025-era normal amount of postseason turnover.

Texas’ brand isn’t being damaged by playing a bowl game against Michigan. I thought you had some form of background in marketing, therefore having at least a tangential understanding how brands and branding work? Good grief.

In the same post you somehow then argue that Texas should have pussied out and stayed home. Who has done that? Notre Dame. Do you know who is actively having their brand devalued due to poor leadership decisions? Notre Dame. They did what you propose, numbnuts.

There is no cabal. I didn’t neg you, that I recall, at least. You had bad takes and people collectively ran you over for them. It takes no organization. It’s crowdsourced board policing. It must not have felt good because you whine about it constantly and you’ve now apparently formed a conspiracy theory to rationalize it all. Get a fucking grip.

LMAO. Last I checked, Arch is going to be the QB next season. Smith and Barnes will get significant time at LB.

You're complaining about players portalling out and a lack of development opps in the same post. You know many of the players who will receive PT next season are playing in this bowl game, right?

The extra practice and in-game reps are great for us.

The chicken littles are out in full force, today.

Trust me, I understand that Texas cannot win a national championship every year. I can find enjoyment in a season that doesn't result in a championship. I enjoyed multiple games this season very much.

That still doesn't mean our leadership shouldn't do everything possible to try to win a championship.

I was disappointed we didn’t get to play Kansas in the Covid year.  Hell, I was  disappointed in the years we weren’t worthy of a bowl appearance.

I enjoyed myself quite a damn bit sitting in DKR chanting, with a few others during the Kansas game in 1997, “Stay Ricky Stay.”  It was cold.  It was a terrible season.  Maybe it was meaningless for many.  It wasn’t for me.

I’ll be ready to watch the Citrus Bowl and be disappointed I’m not there.

I can live with being a moron for those to be meaningful.
