I was a little over-excited with this post. Somehow I temporarily forgot about how the people who run these things don't actually watch the games, but just see scores. If an unbiased person actually watched the Cheezit Bowl, they would discover that the refs gave Michigan the two TDs and we dropped one TD. Give Michigan 6 points-FGs - for the two botched TD calls, and give us a receiver who catches the TD pass. Margin of victory is then 29(14 + 8-the two FGs instead of TDs + 7-caught TD pass).

This Texas team was four TDs better than that Michigan team? National media would not believe that. But then on the back end take one TD from us because we are then taking it easy in the 4th quarter and the margin is now 22 points, far below UTSA's 37 point bowl victory, but still one of the best margins of victories this bowl season, not counting the minor league vs big league playoff games.

Had the voters noticed a 22 point victory, then we are looking at about a #5 or #6 ranking, which means the voters will actually vote us no higher than #7. I see us being ranked #7 or #8.

In reality, this Texas team is 3 TDs better than this Michigan team, and this is another year of Big10 supposed greatness.

When was the last time a time that is 3 TDs better than the opposition is also called for 12 penalties over 100 yards AND the Texas fans have almost grown to accept that Texas will almost ALWAYS be called for more penalties than the opposition???

Also, if a casual voter had tuned into certain parts of the network broadcast, they would have heard all about how great Bryce Underwood looks and how great Kyle Whittingham is for taking the Michigan job, etc. and heard 0, I mean 0 about how the Texas defense is doing great things with these interceptions. We had 3 interceptions!!! But you would have never known that watching the national broadcast.

Btw, BYU won their bowl game by 3 points.

You know you've got the B team announcing crew when they can't move off of their rehearsed talking points even when the game is making them look ridiculous in real time.

If we beat them by that much, anyone who didn't watch the game would say they just lost their coach and are distracted in a scandal.

We weren't getting much credit for this win, regardless, even though we should because that was a focused Michigan team.

But I agree that the officiating was atrocious.

the refs called a lot, but they could've called more

Those are the tears of a moron whose team didn’t beat anybody this season, had their fraudulent balloon popped by the great Satan the day after Thanksgiving, and didn’t even get to play in a bowl game. Pooooooooooor aggies.

How in the world they overturned the out of bounds catch in the first quarter for a Michigan TD I’ll never know.

Thanks, @texifornia .

This is quite an example of "fine writing." Has somebody changed the grammar rules for quote marks (yellow)?

He may use them correctly once to show scorn for "top team" although the Wolverines are ranked in the top 20. The rest? Putting quotes on a pronoun is particularly bold.

Then I noticed the use of ellipses (blue). I bet he's revered as a smart guy in College Station, but is insufferable for anyone else to listen to for even a moment...

The bad spots were an epidemic all night. They somehow kept reviewing them and overturning first downs - not just our game, but the Cotton Bowl.

And if it wasn’t bad spots for one team, teams like Michigan got some very generous ones

I hate Mark Jones almost as much as Beth Mowins. In fact I may like her more. He is such a beating. He loves to throw in several big words that you can tell he’s been rehearsing that week.

Glad I turned the audio off and listened to Craig. His call on that play was pure gold. “Say goodnight to it - Arch Manning with a DAGGER!”

Fun game, especially considering we were lacking our starting LBers, corners, top half of the RB room and by the end, most of the WR who played meaningful minutes during the season. The young guys in the secondary are dawgs.

Almost as bad as using cringe in that manner.

I thought it was interesting how the tone of the game seemed to completely change late in the 3rd Q. Prior to that I thought the players were being friendly, probably carry over from joint bowl activities or something. I saw Arch dap a Michigan DL player after getting his pass batted early in the game. But once shit got serious we kicked their ass.

Zero replays on any of the holding calls.

It also makes no sense. Chattel is any possession BUT real estate. The incredibly super smart Mark Jones basically said that Arch Manning had everything except real estate in front of him on that run.

In America, most of its usage and relevance of the word chattel is in reference to slavery (as in, a slave owner possessed both real estate and human chattel). It would've made just about as much sense if the incredibly super smart Mark Jones had just screamed "SLAVERY!" on Arch's run.

He should have gotten a dictionary. His quote was: " ...and he's got nothing but chattel--real estate..."

Merriam-Webster defines "Chattel" thusly: noun: an item of tangible movable or immovable property except real estate and things (such as buildings) connected with real property (emphasis is mine)

Chattel is still commonly used in real estate to describe things on the land that aren’t considered part of it, especially mobile homes.

"A drive into deep left field by Castellanos"

Arch had a good day…..a very good day….

  • 200+ passing yards

  • 150+ rushing yards

  • Multiple passing TDs

  • Multiple rushing TDs

  • No sacks

  • No turnovers

  • 15.0+ yards per rush

According to OptaStats, Arch is the only FBS or NFL quarterback in the last 30 seasons to have a game with all those statistics.

The highlight of Arch's day was a 60-yard TD run, but he was special throughout.

He completed 21-of-34 passes for 221 yards and two scores.

He ran nine times for 155 yards and two more scores.

It was a special way for Arch to end this season.

It was a fun game that the officials tried to ruin.

Yeah you gotta be fucking nuts to think the officiating (which was horrible for both teams) was tipped in our favor

And I agree with what others have said, this is easily the worst officiated year of CFB ive ever seen. And its not close

the whole safety thing has given the officials way too many "eye of the beholder" penalties to consider. it has IMO ruined the flow of a game.

I get foreceable contact to the head with crown(also known as spearing for years) and can see using forearms/shoulders to the head as being illegal but all this other stuff is bullshit.

illegal blindside block? - maybe put your head on a swivel , defenseless receiver? - maybe don't throw high over the middle, QB hit in the pocket(not late) and driven to the ground? - maybe run the ball more or bring in more protection. I'm sure there are others I'm not thinking of.

the block on Kanu on the QB yesterdashould not be a penalty, for example. if the play is live you can get blocked.

get the refs back focused on calling the penalties that affect the game correctly.

I realize we have jumped the shark and aren't going back but it would be so much better if we could get the refs back focused on calling the penalties that affect the game correctly.
