Horrifying.  And to think this is one Trump policy that is popular on this board.

Of course this will get approximately 0 seconds of coverage on cable news.

Maybe I missed the run up conversation to this post, thanks for the quoted story. I can't follow the link, so I'll assume it's credible.

Economic sanctions almost always make the rulers rich and the ruled suffer. Those suffering know who to blame, so they hate us instead of overthrowing the regime.

We killed a lot of Iraqi children before we even invaded through embargo sanctions.

American aggressive actions are not always the answer despite how good they make us feel.

This is how I see it too. I get that many Rs don't like Trump. They're disgusted by his behavior and they may even say and think today they won't vote for him.  but when it's Biden/Warren/Harris/Bernie/Beto on the ballot representing the Godforsaken Socialists, they will hold their nose and vote Trump.
Biden probably represents the best hope the Dems want to convert or keep the old white seniors from voting Trump.

I agree.  I think they tell people "what they want to hear".  IOW, they're going to say they won't vote for him, so they don't have to out themselves as morons.  However, when the curtain is pulled, they'll vote for Trump b/c....SOCIALISM!!!!!

This is why I believe Trump’s approval ratings and polls showing his likely voters in the 40s are way off.  Why would anyone expect Trump voters to be honest about being shitbags?   Johnny Sack and Icono types notwithstanding, millions of them know just enough to know that it’s not smart to publicly self-identify as morons and traitors.  It’s also why Trump will likely win re-election easily, no matter who the D nominee is, and no matter what happens (or doesn’t happen) between now and the election.

It'd be a damn shame if the DNC and some select donors got smart and decided to excessively fund and execute a massive statewide television, print and digital campaign reminding Arizona that Trump consistently shit all over the legacy of the dignified combat veteran who sacrificed the first third of his life fighting for his country and the last 2/3 of his life devoting himself to the service of their state.

Depends on the definition of "easily" -- I'm similarly resigned to 4 more years but let's not act like a 3M vote margin + 80K shortfall in 3 states was a walk in the park to securing the electoral college victory for Trump.

No one forces MSNBC to spend 23 hours a day expounding conspiracy theories and hyperfocusing on Trump's silliness.  If they wished, they could inform their viewers that Trump has killed tens of thousands of Venezuelans and violated the Geneva conventions.  They won't because stuff like that cannot be criticized openly in any meaningful way.

No one forces you to watch it.

Maybe don't.

I think this is exactly wrong and people can't wait to vote against Donald Trump. I think he's going to lose badly.

One of us will be right.

I agree with Straw.  I also think it'll be difficult to ever beat any presidential incumbent again, barring absolute economic destruction.  As repugnant as some moderate Republicans deem Trump to be, in the final days of what will likely be a hostile race, most of them will become sufficiently irritable with whoever the Democratic candidate might be.  And in this current era of crazed and doomed bullshit, the currency behind national elections isn't so much about being inspired by a particular leader as it is not being able to tolerate or digest seeing the people you despise and loathe get to win.  The tribal climate of "R and D" will kick in, meaning basically another coin toss where Trump will have the advantage of dubiously drawn districts in key states and the Dem will have the advantage of a popular mass.  Trump will very likely be reelected, even with his pants around his ankles.  Trump can't fuck up enough to fuck things up in the eyes of these fuck ups.

Have people just forgotten what happened in the midterm elections?

The results in the house elections nationwide, as well as results like the majority (albeit a tiny margin) of Tarrant fucking County voting for Beto tells me that Trump’s support has dwindled a lot.

Trump wasn't on the ballot. Beto was running against Lyin Ted, his wife is ugly and his dad killed JFK, Trump supporters know this and stayed at home.

I take that into account while also recognizing the institutionalized and corporate dedication to erraticism that currently exists with the DNC.  And when Biden is the nominee he will step on every political rake and cultural IED that exists in spite of them being marked with large, orange cones.  He has the combative gravitas to be competitive but he's also so antiquated and regime molded that he'll have less of a chance motivating young democrats than even Hillary Clinton.  He might be the worst possible candidate the DNC has to choose from, so I'm positive he'll win the democratic primary.  Right out of the gate the power base of the old guard are already funneling the momentum in his direction.  Think of five of the dumbest possible things Joe Biden can do or say and then watch him do and say everyone of them while still winning the primary.

Very cool to see the President of the United States of America literally promoting a blood libel. It's ok though, I'm sure history is full of instances of leaders promoting blood libels with no negative consequences to other people.

Very cool to see the President of the United States act like a gutless coward on twitter, day in and day out.

It’s fitting that we elected such an insecure little man to the White House.  His followers are the epitome of the “DONT SAY THINGS I DONT  AGREE WITH AROUND ME, I NEED MY SAFE SPACE, STAY AWAY WITH YOUR DIFFERENT IDEAS!” movement.

Yeah they say that now, but what percentage of those seniors will get to the polls and still pull that R lever?  I'm guessing a lot.  Just too dangerous to vote for one of them radical socialist lefties.

I think plenty, particularly in the Midwest, are more loyal to their bank accounts than the GOP, and you know Trump’s hurt the bank accounts of plenty of his followers.  That’s why he tries to drown out everything with his “GREATEST ECONOMY IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE” crap.

You can see it as Trump’s support weakening along the border states.

I see it as proof the GOP doesn’t think they can hold all of Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia.

Otherwise they wouldn’t give a shit about holding just 11 electoral votes in Arizona.

Something is showing them one or more losses among those states.  Could be the midterms and WI/MI/PA flipping.  Could be internal polling.

I don’t believe that all of his 2016 voters are 100% Trumpanzee and able to spew the talking points from the previous night’s Hannity or Tucker shows.

They may not pull the lever for the Dem, but hit them hard in the bank account, and plenty won’t be too motivated to make it into the voting booth in the first place.

While not a perfect barometer, I believe that if you took the 2018 House votes and transferred them to a vote for Trump vs a Dem, the Dem would have won the electoral college 296-242.  Trump won in 2016 304-227.

The $2m Warmbier payment has now fallen on Tillerson, and perhaps Trump ok'ed it as well. Seems like we need to get Tillerson in front of Congress to find out the whole story.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/29/politics/joseph-yun-warmbier-north-korea/index.html

I don't see Tillerson as the type to make this decision without his boss' approval.

Ohh if we signed a contract saying we were going to pay and then stiffed them, Trump had everything to do with it. Kim Jong Un can now join a long list of Trump's sub contractors that got fucked.

The norks obviously don’t know trump all that well or they would have got the money up front. Stiffing hostage takers with the payment is vintage trump.

I do find it funny that the Norks used American medical pricing in their invoice. I highly doubt you could run up a $2 million medical bill in North Korea.

All of what you said is correct. People should not underestimate Trump, and the rate at which we're polarizing. We saw millions of Americans vote for Trump despite his controversies and they will continue to grow in number as more and more centrist conservatives move further to the right.

Come on!  Seriously?  Who in their right mind could look at Otto Warmbier's situation and decide that the best course of action is to reimburse the Nork's $2M for their "care" of an American citizen after they rendered him a vegetable?  This is CNN we are talking about.  Fake news.  Enemy of the people.  There's no reason to really even consider this "story".  But I'll entertain the libtards game for a moment: it would have to be someone who had no moral compass.  Someone who could stoop to any low if it gave the possibility of positive public perception.  Someone with the spine of a noodle and the empathy of Ted Bundy.  The only name that comes to mind is Barrack Hussein Obama, and he's been out of Washington for over two years!

Democrats pumped up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to cause the mortgage crisis. Obama then lengthened the crisis by giving away golden parachutes to failing bank executives. His socialist policies also prevented American automakers from using the free market to right the ship.

On top of that, he said local law enforcement acted stupidly when they harassed professor Gates in his front porch.

You are laughably wrong.  Obama not letting all the country's automotive manufacturing go down the tubes, thereby stopping a ripple effect of closed suppliers and dependent businesses (everything from lunch counters to raw product suppliers of suppliers), is an ode to successful Democratic economic policies.   The ship was righted.   We did not lose our auto industry because O did not listen to morons who wanted to 'burn it down and let the free marker build it up'.

That is the same kind of stupid as trickle down.  And yet, a gullible base eats that nonsense up.  Sad.

Not only that but it almost broke even. Of the $80 billion invested, the auto companies paid $70 billion back. So $10 billion to save our auto industry. I wonder if fiscal conservative EskimoHorn is equally as concerned about the multi-Trillion dollar tax cut for the wealthy that Trump gave out. The tax cut that will cost 200-300x what the auto bailout did. I'm assuming he's foaming at the mouth to vote against him next time around, because, fiscal conservative and all.
