Not the same. One time events. You think if a video came out of Trump shooting a man in the head, we would have protests, of that size, demanding he resign? Nope. Maybe if he got caught with/participating in kiddie porn. Maybe then the evangelicals would turn on him. Maybe.

They could see video of Trump raping a 13-year-old and they'd tell the child to ask God's forgiveness for tempting the president into sin.

That's great. Looks like the account has been inactive for 10 years.

He'll be removed by force if necessary. He's no longer president the second someone else is sworn in.

You assume that will happen. By Chief Justice Roberts.

Nothing is guaranteed at this point.

I'm more worried about him actively conspiring with a foreign government to swing the election to him. Cause, you know, he did it the first time and perhaps got away with it. Plus, in 2016 the alternative to being president was another season of celebrity apprentice. The alternative in 2020, will likely be prison. I would put nothing past him.

I actually hope he tries to hold on to power. I really, really, really, really want to see that shit storm.

that should have happened a long time ago.  an illegitimate election with Trump staying on isn’t going to be the thing that makes that finally happen.

i’d put the chances of either Trump winning via suppression, foreign interference and other election rigging and cheating, or him losing and staying on anyway, at 90%+. either way, no one will  do anything about it.

The scenario I'm worried about isn't where NBC calls the election at 9 PM for president-elect Warren and Trump throws a fit about illegals voting. Trump would have to leave then. What I'm worried about is him going all out on election manipulation, vote suppression and foreign help to squeek out a victory. Blatant stealing an election and then engaging in a massive coverup, all kinds of authoritarian shit to follow. End stages of the dictatorial playbook. That's what we're staring down here.

It will be remarkable if Trump makes it to Election Day.  But remember it’s not just Trump, it’s the whole GOP.  They all sold out and you can bet your ass they are going to try to collect.

The worst part of trump is that he’s now created the playbook for someone like him to win. We will see successors attempt to follow the same path by wrapping themselves in a MAGA flag.  Perhaps the mainstream GOP will reject that person or perhaps not. Some may follow MAGA just because they have become too emotionally tied to it.

My hope is that there is pent up dissent among the republicans that will result in fragmentation once trump has moved on.  My hope is that they’re learning the lesson but misplaced political loyalty and the thirst for power are prevailing principles.  Their true reckoning can occur once they’ve lost what they’re seeking to retain.  Trumps ardent supporters reluctantly fall in line behind the next nominee just like they switch to an SEC chant when their favorite team finishes third in the division.

But I don’t consider myself a hopeful person. I’ve been around long enough to turn cynical.

sure, because that is exactly what is going to happen.   and no one will do a goddamn thing about it.  other than worrisome commentary, furrowed brows, and public handwringing and tsk-tsk’ing.  people who think that we are going to vote this guy out of office and that he’ll hand over the reigns appear naive at best and delusional at worst, IMO. i hope i’m wrong on this but i’d bet heavily that he’s still sitting right where he is now - illegitimately - in late 2021.  shit, he’s there illegitimately now - plus he’s a proven felon, compulsive liar, serial sexual predator, and traitor, and no one has done a single meaningful thing about it.

Holy shit, that's awesome.

Real thugs play dress up with dolls? I totally misunderstood Tupac

Ooh, I love it when they play the big hits.  "Caravans" is a favorite of mine.

Burning books in a big bonfire seems like something Trump would be all about, even without the white nationalism.

Why not? He’s not going to read them.

This. A re-elected Trump, with no need to campaign for re-election, will be a rabid dog off the chain.

Remember the white paper (appropriately named) the GOP did after 2012 saying they needed a bigger tent, to be more inclusive, etc...?

Didn’t really take.

In 2016 the Dems won a bunch of house seats by delivering tailored messages in each of those districts with an anti-Trump overarching theme.

While I haven't seen a great, uniformly liked Dem candidate emerge, and don't think we will see one, there are lots of people trying to do meaningful things about it -- at least more meaningful than grousing on the internet.

People need to start getting in shape to work on congressional and in applicable, Senate campaigns, as well as state races.

I still think Beto lost for two reasons - a beyond shitastic Dem candidate for Governor who probably chased away more Dems than she courted, and Beto's failure to come up with a tougher immigration stance.

People can still chip away at Trump's power by driving his bootlicking henchmen out of power.
