USAF Thunderbird - Austin/San Antonio Flyover

Recommended Posts

That map makes it look like they'll fly over the HEB Plus in Leander, corner of 2243 and 183.

I might just have to take my daughter to the HEB parking lot.

Trying to figure out the best place to go. Live in North Austin near Cedar Park and not too far from 620/I-35 Roundrock.

Since the purpose is to fly over hospitals, St. Davids on 620 will be right on the flight path.

The Lead Slot Pilot is a woman, Major Michelle Curran.  Pretty cool!

(I realize this is a set-up, fire away gentlemen)

looks like they're going to fly right down 1431. Maybe the Target/Academy at 1431/183A would be a good spot.

As if we couldn't tell after one look at the flight path.

Are they doing an inflight refuel?

I believe they're stopping at the NB Bucee's for refueling and Beaver Nuggets.

Based upon the delay between San Antonio and Austin and starting Austin in Cedar Park from the north, I suspect they are refueling at Ft. Hood.

I would think Randolph AFB.  Map had them right over my house heard them but we couldn't find them in the sky.

They're on an hour delay.

Which was initially quoted as “five more minutes” with tone.

I was coming out of the HEB near the Quarry in SA about 2 hrs ago or so and had forgotten about this.  Precisely when I got out of the door I felt a low steady and growing rumble, then heard what sounded like a rocket headed right for my head only to look up and see those fuckers on the hard deck a solid 3-Wood distance away directly above.

Best change of underwear I've ever had to make.

Five minutes early, over the HEB, had two trailing

Yeah thy sucked.  I ducked a conference call and drove to a good spot but they were early and I just saw the one in trail.  Lame.

Pretty darn cool! That was fast. Didn’t get any decent pictures. Went to the hospital parking lot on 620/St. David’s. Cool to see all the health professionals in all their scrubs all excited. Flew right over us.

thanks again @Jerry Callo

Flew over Cedar Park Medical Center, circled the Target/Academy and made a second pass over the hospital before turning SE and heading down 1431. Got a couple iPhone shots but I can't get tapa to load right now.

i missed the Mopac pass through. and literally only saw them for .2 seconds 2 miles away on the way back up to pflugerville.

honestly flying way too low to be seen by a lot of the city.

Hope all enjoyed. Ironically, as an essential worker in the prison system we all obviously missed it.

Is it all over in Austin? Not on a flight path where I am in South Austin, but thought we still could’ve seen em at a distance

Heard em, never saw em.  Think they were too low and obscured by trees and clouds for us.  Oh well.

They flew directly over St. Davids on 620. We are in Brushy Creek and standing on our street I caught a brief glimpse of the chase plane.
