$16k bed and detached guest house. That's how you Surly.

So the beds have LED lighting that illuminate underneath, presumably so you can locate things like slippers, socks, etc.

Last night I come into the bedroom, she is sleeping, her side of the floor is lit up like daylight, and it took me a few minutes to locate her bed remote so I could douse the light.

I was definitely in the NO CRUISE camp up until this year.  Did a Royal Caribbean cruise to Mexico a few months back, and it's changed my opinion.  I'm still not planning on anything Carnival, especially out of Florida.  But there's something for everyone on board, and with the kids, it's a great alternative to dragging ass around Walt's torture park.

Not a big fan for cruises either, but did an Alaskan Cruise for my wife's birthday a year or two ago (second I've ever done besides being on a Navy ship).  Norweigan.   If you have the money the key is to find the "exclusive" cruising package and pay for it.  Norweigan has something called "Haven" where you are in your own (badged entry) section.  Have your own restaurant just for Haven guests, own bar, own pool, several hot tubs and the top deck of the ship is only for Haven guests (best view on the ship).    You can go anywhere but retreat back there.  Also, you have a butler, concierge and head of the line (express elevator) exit and entry to the ship when leaving for excursions.  So instead of fighting 3K people to exit they express elevator you to the exit front of the line and express you back onboard and up your special elevator.

It was nice and avoided the "commoners".  We did outside restaurants and events, including our own escort and seating to the shows/musicals.  Did we get an occasional side eye from the masses...yes.  But that made it even more enjoyable.

Did your wife enjoy the escort, too, or was that just for you?

We were definitely amongst the commoners, but it was a smaller ship (Mariner of the Seas) and the crowd wasn't bad.  It probably helped we didn't wander around much after 8pm and stuck to the pool deck or shows.
