Welp, my kid's preschool closed Friday because of Covid and my wife and son have a fever with a sore throat. Nice knowing y'all.

Do things that go away, that you'll never hear about after elections, typically have their record-setting days after that point-as indicated by federal authorities?

Like when Barry Bonds announced his retirement in 2007 and the media said we wouldn't hear about him again for a long while-maybe until HOF voting 6 years later..I don't remember him popping back up and hitting 74 home runs the next season.

Seasonal depression plus depression of not really able to see thier families here in the PNW will be fun.

The XPLOR pre school in Circle C just closed permanently because people didn't trust it as much as the older, non-profit Circle C Child Development Center during the pandemic, leading to greatly lower enrollment.

Oddly enough, it was the Circle C Child Development Center that had the bad COVID outbreak in the spring, leading to stories on the local news broadcasts.

Isn't not seeing the extended family for the holidays a feature and not a bug?

^

yeah, I want my kids to see their grandparents...but otherwise I’ve never understood he fascination with seeing in laws.  I get along with them and they are super nice people, but not once during this pandemic have I thought, “shit is fucked up right now...so how about we toss a bunch of super chatty, non drinking, covid-denying Catholics in the mix plus their spouses?   Yeah that’ll make for a swell time.  And what’s that?  Everything is closed down so we will just sit on the couch staring at one another, sober waiting for another Hallmark movie to come on for free.”

i have moved mountains to help family over the years, and I’ll gladly do it again.  But what is the obsession of being in the same room as people you wouldn’t have picked out as friends if you had a gun to your head?   Are y’all related to really funny actors or TED talk speakers or some shit?  Most of us on here are likely the most interesting person in our families.  And look how fucking horrible we are to be around.

Not for me.  I have a wonderful relationship with my in-laws, my cousins, and my extended family.  My parents' cousins (my second cousins technically) we've always called uncle/aunt.  We have just as good a relationship with certain groups of them as we do our immediate cousins (mostly due to the fact that my grandmother and their mom/grandmother were the last two of 10 and were best buddies).  It's damn hard, really damn hard not to see them.  The only thing holding me back is my baby.  She's gone through enough to start this journey, doesn't need to test the waters with anything else.  Hell, I'm even gonna get a flu shot for the first time since I was required to living in a dorm my freshman year of college (Have only had flu once in my life, in 4th grade).  Holiday time is extraordinarily meaningful to our family, and I cherish it.  This is not going to be a fun go-round this year.

Yeah, I get along with my in-laws as well as much of my extended family and we always have an okay time together.  I just don't have the slightest temptation to throw them in the 2020 shitshow mix right now, the payoff just isn't worth the risk...other than maybe the three grandparents seeing our two little ones.  Because they're all getting up there in age and not all in terribly great health.

Having said that, sounds like from other posts your little one is doing better.  And that's all that really matters.  We've had some health setbacks with ours, particularly the younger one and thank god, the issues started to clear up at the start of Covid-19 and haven't reared their heads back yet.  (NO JINX!)

Just as this pandemic has made us all appreciate what we have from health to resources to food to toilet paper, it'll also in hindsight help us appreciate how special gatherings and parties and friends can be.  Starting about Q2 2021, were gonna blow it out as a nation again.  Should be awesome.

Same here.  I love hanging out with my family over the holidays, and my inlaws as well.

We're doing a small outdoor Thanksgiving at my parents' house, and we'll probably do something similar at Christmas, but I'll miss seeing my nephews, brother-in-law and his family, and a couple of cousins that we normally get to see.  This year is going to be different and a little sad for us.

The situation in Ohio is "deteriorating". Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine on Tuesday announced a nightly curfew in an attempt to slow the current surge in the coronavirus pandemic, starting at 10pm Thursday till 5am, lasting for 3 weeks.

Am I the only one picturing some crazy Covid-hoaxer sitting in a rusted out Plymouth near Columbus, clanking Rolling Rock bottles on his fingers at 3am and chanting, "Pandemic...come out to play-ay-ay."

I get the bar closures but what the fuck does the 10-5am curfew solve?

Aye Yi Yi, Katy.

At least one of the nice things about the internet is that it allows me to send my nearly 91 year old grandma who still lives at home in a hot spot chocolate and large print crossword books easily. Also I’m glad she’s taking it seriously. (A lot of credit goes to her church looking at the congregation, and noping into radio services right away)

Are we twins?

Finally got a mask mandate in county, after the counties asked the governor to do statewide and he said nope it’s a county issue. Should make for some fun social media for a while.

already saw a guy post a list of “facts” such as masks don’t work because the holes in them are larger than the virus, masks cause hypoxia, and covid tests are 90% false positives. Then talked down to everyone by saying he took the time and trouble to educate himself on the matter.

These "self-anointed" experts that keep coming out of the wood-work don't surprise me.  Whenever something catastrophic happens, there's always going to be people that "educate themselves" on the matter.  When you collect some limited and biased information and come to some sort of conclusion about it on your own, there's power in that.  It's the basis of all advertising.  When the person "arrives" at the conclusion of their own accord, they feel it is right and justified.  What I don't fucking get is how millions of Americans listen to those handfuls of dipshits and just accept what they are peddling.

I get there was gonna be a few dozen loud, vocal champions of everything incorrect about Covid-19.  What I did not see coming was how many tens of millions would skip past the tens of thousands of public health experts and just listen to the outlying insane people.  Let's be honest, most Americans aren't educated enough or inclined to critical thinking enough to come to any reasonable conclusions on their own.  So they had to pick one "school of thought" or the other, and you knew a few would pick the fringe idiotic side and the vast, vast majority would pick the side of reason and credibility.  But nope, about 35% flocked to Camp Dipshit.

Is it because that mentality is easier?  I would think it's gotta be harder.  To be an outlier, to continue to have to reinforce your moronically constructed dam against wave after wave of evidence and truth.  To be outcast by friends and family and business colleagues because people are tired of carrying your stupid ass.  Do you feel some divine, higher calling to be ignorant?  Is there some oasis of comfort over the next dune that pushes you onward through your own desperate bullshit attempt to show that you are right and we are wrong?

I guess I'm just asking, how do these people keep digging in deeper after all we've been through in 10 months?  How do you grasping at one or two little anecdotal lies and basing your entire lifestyle around it?  I used to think it's because it was easier than confronting the truth.  We all ignore facts in some area of our lives because it's just blissfully easier.  But after this many months and this many tens of millions of dumb fucking Americans, it's strange to me---they've chosen the harder path.  Not the honorable path, nor the challenging path, nor the right path.  It's just plain, fucking harder.  Do they just want to be contrarian and difficult like a pouty teenager?  What do they do for a living that admitting you're wrong is considered a bad thing?  What lesson does that instill in their children more importantly?

My question to some of you---what did you gain by going against all the evidence, all the science, all the truth?  Are you somehow more free than me?  All you did was reveal yourself to the rest of your community as someone to be avoided.

What's the old saying, "Better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to throw off your mask and remove all doubt."

Insane how there hasnt been a national mask mandate in place

god, this country is so fucking dumb
