Two of the key studies cited by plaintiffs and judges as evidence that medication abortion should be pulled from the market or heavily restricted have been retracted because of undeclared conflicts of interest and unreliable findings, academic publisher Sage announced Monday.

Another citation for this:

So another major civil rights restricting case, turning on a set of fucking LIES, that we all just have to live with because facts fucking don't matter in our legal system anymore

“Sage said in its retraction notice that it had independent experts look at the two studies, as well as a third study led by Studnicki, in response to a reader's concern.”

Hey Sage Publications, maybe try doing that BEFORE publishing a study next time. Some people refer to that as “peer review.” It helps prevent you from embarrassing yourself by publishing junk science.

I’ve never heard of Sage Publications before but now I know they don’t employ a rigorous review process before publication and I’ll be skeptical whenever I see their name attached to any study. Nice job, folks.

While rape would be “mentally taxing” for anyone, said Republican state Sen. Sandy Crawford, it doesn’t justify an abortion.

“God is perfect,” she said. “God does not make mistakes. And for some reason he allows that to happen. Bad things happen.”

Missouri giving Texas a run for its money Just unbelievable that anyone would say this.

I honestly do not understand how a single fucking woman in this country with a modicum of intelligence could vote Republican at this point.  It is shocking how fucking idiotic some of my fellow women are.

But god…. Or something.

Why wouldn't the father also be charged?

Admittedly, Moffitt's  is an insane mindset, but hell, at least be consistent.

Because the idea is to punish women.

I've never heard anything about this guy Moffitt except for this post. What's insane about his mindset? Perhaps you're confusing the man who wrote the tweet with the state senator who filed the bill?

Yeah, when you see the inconsistencies applied consistently to only one gender, you can probably assume its purpose is to control women and what they can or cannot do without regard to their health or well-being.

Imagine being the husband of a woman you love dearly with an ectopic pregnancy that would result in neither the wife nor the embryo (I doubt it'd even reach the fetal stage of development). Here are your options under a law that only punishes the woman:

  1. You both do nothing, and the wife & embryo expire. You're left alone.
  2. You don't know or feign ignorance that the wife gets out of state and aborts the embryo. She gets away with it, and the two of you can try again.
  3. You don't know or feign ignorance that the wife gets out of state and aborts the embryo. She gets caught and goes to jail. You're left alone.
  4. You help your wife get out of state to abort the embryo. Y'all get away with it, and the two of you can try again.
  5. You help your wife get out of state to abort the embryo. She gets caught and goes to jail. You're left alone.

Only options 2 & 5 allow the two of you to lead your lives, but you'll be filled with dread that there'd be another similar complication in a second pregnancy, and you'd have to do it all over again with the same risks of your wife dying or going to jail.

Of course, they could also punish the father with jail time, but that wouldn't give him the option to breed with another woman after his wife dies, or he could divorce her while she's in jail and go on to breed.

The man, while alone, gets another chance. The woman, none.

Indeed, "called out for bullshit" applies.

Lol.  You said Moffitt had an insane mindset.  Moffitt is the one reporting the tweet.  His mindset is perfectly fucking fine.  It’s the asshat freshman state Senator Dusty Deevers that is insane.  Again, Slorch’d, cause you offer a hot take that shows you don’t actually know what the fuck you are reading.

As expected, they're buying cell phone location data of people who visit abortion clinics:

Quote

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore., revealed today that an anti-abortion political group used mobile phone location data to send targeted misinformation to people who visited any of 600 reproductive health clinics in 48 states. In a letter to the Federal Trade Commission and Securities and Exchange Commission, Wyden urged the government to act quickly to protect the privacy of patients, and to hold the data broker accountable for misleading statements about its actions.

As a result of the Dobbs decision, which reversed Roe v. Wade and allowed states to criminalize abortion, privacy of location data has become increasingly important. Wyden began investigating a data broker named Near Intelligence in 2023, after the Wall Street Journal reported that an anti-abortion organization named The Veritas Society used cell phone location data shared with online advertising companies to target misinformation about reproductive health to people who visited Planned Parenthood locations in Wisconsin.

In response to questions from Sen. Wyden’s office, an official at the advertising agency used by The Veritas Society said the campaign actually targeted people who visited 600 Planned Parenthood locations, in 48 U.S. states. An official for Near also confirmed that the data broker also provided Americans’ location data to a defense contractor, which the Journal previously revealed was providing location data to the Defense Department and U.S. intelligence agencies.

“If a data broker could track Americans’ cell phones to help extremists target misinformation to people at hundreds of Planned Parenthood locations across the United States, a right-wing prosecutor could use that same information to put women in jail,” Wyden said. “Federal watchdogs should hold the data broker accountable for abusing Americans’ private information. And Congress needs to step up as soon as possible to ensure extremist politicians can’t buy this kind of sensitive data without a warrant.”

The news comes as the U.S. Congress is poised to debate restricting the government’s purchase of sensitive information, such as the location data used by anti-abortion groups. Wyden and a broad coalition of civil liberties groups on both sides of the aisle have proposed limiting when the government can effectively end-run the Fourth Amendment by buying data without getting a warrant.

In order to protect patients against future abuse of their data, Wyden asked the FTC to ensure that all location and device data held by Near about Americans is destroyed, rather than sold off to another company or data broker during the company’s bankruptcy proceedings. He also asked the SEC to investigate whether Near violated securities laws by making misleading statements about its interactions with Congress and about whether its data was obtained with users’ consent (it was not).

The Veritas Society should be ________________________________________________________________________.

More from Oklahoma. It's madness!

Another bill would make delivering or possessing abortion-inducing drugs a felony

On a party-line vote, the [Oklahoma] House Criminal Judiciary Committee also passed legislation Wednesday that would allow prosecutors to charge individuals who possess or deliver abortion-inducing drugs with felony trafficking charges.

The person delivering abortion pills, which can be used to terminate a pregnancy within the first 10 weeks, could be charged if they know another person intends to use the medication to cause an unlawful abortion.

An individual could face 10 years in prison or $100,000 in fines if found guilty.

Rep. Denise Crosswhite Hader, R-Piedmont, said House Bill 3013 is intended to protect the health of women who might regret their decision to seek an abortion. She has expressed concerns that medical complications could arise if a woman takes abortion pills incorrectly should they be provided by someone who isn’t a medical professional.

“I stand again to try and protect the life of women who might take these pills and not know the repercussions of what it might do for them,” she said.

Y'all remember how much talk we started seeing on the right before Roe was overturned about how, once it was, they would need to start passing pro-mother and pro-family policies? Have any Republican-controlled states done that? No? It's all just this clearly abusive and controlling anti-women shit? Like we predicted? Funny how that worked out.

This.
Would love our “pro-life” champions around here to list all the pro-mother and pro-family legislation their heroes have proposed/passed since Roe was overturned.
What’s that? There’s functionally NONE of those things? And it remains all about finding different ways to control, track, and punish women?
Gosh golly, who coulda seen that coming?

Nationwide ban of Birth control is next. The Florida surgeon general has to be a top candidate to lead a trump fda …

It is 100% the next item in their target list. The conservative front-wave is making that crystal clear.
The GQP wants to ban birth control. Period. It’s not much more complicated than that.
Notice how they never propose banning viagra for unmarried men, though…right?
There’s rarely ever been a political movement as openly anti-women as the modern American GQP.

Because women suffering regardless of how it affects future fertility or quality of life is the point (SEE: Viagra, availability to males):

Medical uses for oral contraceptives other than birth control are

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Endometriosis

Amenorrhea (lack of menstruation)

Dysmenorrhea (painful periods)

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)

Primary Ovarian Insufficiency

Heavy Menstrual Periods

Anemia

Many of these conditions start after the onset of puberty and can continue throughout child bearing years.

H.R. 8373 The Right To Contraception Act passed with a vote of 228-195 with 8 Republicans voting Yea. Of those, I believe 4 are not seeking re-election. The Senate killed it (it was received in the Senate July of 2022 and when brought forth, Joni Ernst, remember her? She blocked it). My rep (R) did not vote (of course; he is a prick in all ways all days). So, it was reintroduced in June of 2023 and right now is not looking like it will pass either the House or the Senate this go around.

So, anyone who thinks this is not going to keep sliding down the slope--remember Roe V Wade? I remember. The carve outs and medical exemptions will be just as murky so that physicians and pharmacists and insurance will refuse service.

The STDs will keep them in business though.

Sad.
