1. Texas: $2.38 billion (projected price)

Three-year average football revenue: $183 million

The Longhorns routinely lead the country in revenue and were the only team to top $200 million in the most recent financial reports. No program came within $25 million of Texas in either of the past two years. The Longhorns haven’t won a national title since 2005 but made the College Football Playoff semifinals each of the past two seasons and are among this preseason’s top championship contenders. Add in the SEC brand, and Texas looks like the safest investment.

Our price tag makes the Longhorns comparable to the 2018 sale of the Carolina Panthers (almost $2.3 billion).

15. Texas A&M: $973 million
Average football revenue: $97.3 million

The Aggies have the rabid fan base and demographic upside to be higher. Money has also never been an issue at a program that paid Jimbo Fisher the biggest buyout in college football history (about $77 million). But we’re also considering wins and losses because of the money victories bring. Texas A&M is arguably the nation’s biggest underachiever with only four top-five finishes and one national title (1939) since the Associated Press poll began in 1936 and zero conference titles since 1998.

What's arguable about it?

Poor Billy. A&M is rarely in the top 10 of anything, other than biggest cheaters in history and biggest buyout of a coach in history.

Aggie jokes exist for a reason.

Mike Elko may not let on to this fact a lot, but he clearly is aware of what sort of controversies— manufactured or not— are going on in the spheres surrounding his program. It makes sense that he will shut that stuff out when the time comes, but in a press availability session during his time at the Texas High School Coaches Association Convention today, he made a more-than-oblique remark to indicate that he's aware of this most recent tiff.

For those not in the know, there was an individual associated with a Texas Longhorns fan site at SEC Media Days last week who was attempting to stir up all sorts of controversy with responses from Aggie coaches and players. Every question he asked was clearly intended to get some sort of quote that he could put out on social media, and even though he didn't really get anything, he tried his darndest.

When even former Texas players aren't buying what you're selling with the rage bait, it might be time to hang it up. This was ridiculous enough of an attempt that Mike Elko is still laughing about it days later.

Mike Elko quips at press availability about ridiculous Texas fan site questions
Elko was present at a press availability for the Texas High School Coaches Association Convention, where he had to make a clarification mid-question. The reporter mentioned that Elko was a coach of one of the state's flagship programs when Elko deadpanned "I didn't say that, you did."

Laughs filled the room before Elko made it explicit why he was making that joke: "Just before that goes viral again from all of our wonderful fans over in Austin." Talk about some biting sarcasm.

This is doubly sweet since it exposes the desperation that Texas fans have with all things A&M— they're always thirsting for some sort of content about the Aggies, no doubt even steaming over this clip of Elko at this very moment. Masterful job by the A&M head man.
