Gerry drops a few interesting tidbits in there that hint at something more.

1) His DT note doesn’t make. A “sleeper” but it would have to be a “dude”? How many hidden gems at DT are there at this stage? Or is he saying one of known guys comes back around?

2) He keeps talking about the guys committed to Oregon. All things were equal and Benjamin took Oregon. All things were not equal and Lott chose Oregon. I don’t know what could flip Benjamin but matching Oregon’s offer for Lott appears to be an option if Texas wants to go that route. To date, they don’t see Lott on that level.

3) This is another mention of the Ole Miss LB commitment. Clearly, there’s something going on in that recruitment for Texas.

Thank you for keeping it concise so that we can get back to the important discussion of airport abbreviations.

MCO stands for Orlando International Airport, and it's the airport's IATA code. The code originally comes from the airport's former name, McCoy Air Force Base. The base was named after Colonel Michael Norman Wright McCoy, who died in a plane crash during a bombing competition. The airport transitioned to civilian use in 1975.

ITM is great to watch planes at.

I hear ZRH is spectacular.

With OT being a priority, seems like a contingency option should be considered. Perhaps late risers will be evaluated. Will be interesting to see if alternative names crop up as time moves on if Lee looks to be unlikely.

Bobby brings him up constantly, so he must think that Lee is an actual possibility. I remain skeptical personally - Michigan really wants to hold on to him.

I think under past staffs or even in previous years, I'd be on this thread worried about backup plans (not saying you sound worried). The loss of Cojoe really underscores our need for depth at OT. At this point though, I'm pretty comfortable assuming that 1) this staff won't leave any stones unturned, and 2) even people like Bobby won't hear much about said unturned stones until the staff feels OK with that news being public.

Yeah, it sounds like there will be an extra push made for Lee and others now that Cojoe is gone for the year.

Interesting post from the OU on3 board regarding Kruel:

Nagy loves Kruel and has called him a 5 star publicly at many of his community engagement events. I was present when he used him as an example of a kid they are willing to pay up for. This would go down as a tough loss if he chooses to go elsewhere.

Oh man, Nagy believing Kruel is a 5-star is a perfect illustration and indictment on him as an identifier of talent. Get this guy a Jimbo contract.

Star rankings are tough for me, but I really like Kruel's tape.  He didn't seem to fit what the staff had been recruiting at EDGE from a measurables perspective, so I didn't know if they were forcing a fit there.  With the news that they've spun Spence down from LB, it looks like Clark and Baker may not be as seemingly rigid around height/wingspan at that spot (which I like).   If the guy can rush the passer at a high level while also setting an adequate edge against gap schemes and rush inside on the ET twists and games, I don't really give a shit how long his arms are - I'd sacrifice a couple batted balls for QB disruption in the backfield.

What possible connection does cojoe's injury have to do with a high school player?

Are you suggesting Lee could start next year if Andre's injury isn't 100%?

In general the emphasis on long arms has a lot more to do with the OL not being able to get their hands on you than it does batting down passes.

It's kind of like reach being emphasized in boxing. It's not an end all measurement, but DEs who can keep separation from their OT counterparts - where arm length is also emphasized in talent evaluation - are at an advantage compared to shorter armed DEs who constantly have to make up for it in other ways.

But Mike Tyson was pretty good, and he didn't have a lot of arm reach. Same thing with DEs. If the player can use leverage and strength to get the OL off balance, a disadvantage in arm length isn't as big of a deal.

I'm not a fan of Kreul as a prospect. I'm not saying don't take him. We just have an embarrassment of riches at that position, and I'm greedy. I want more Simmons/Jackson types, and that's not who he is. OTOH, the prospect of punking OU in this recruitment makes me giddy.

Took the daughter to Goofy's kitchen as part of our Disneyland trip for her 6th birthday.

Disneyland Character Dining: Goofy's Kitchen at Disneyland Hotel

Busy, loud, buffet that charged like $80 a plate for mediocre food. But Goofy and the gang come by tables and interact with you.

I'd say at least 50% of the people there were adult couples with no children. Excitedly taking couples pictures with Goofy and Dale and the others. Wearing Disney-branded gear from head to toe. Having the time of their lives eating Chef Goofy's Macaroni and Cheese and attacking the 30 ft long dessert bar with alacrity. Putting on pounds of fat in real time.

Funny, for being the happiest place on earth, I sure was filled with a bloodcurdling rage.

As far as flipping targets, I'm curious how the season goes. Disruptions in head coaching jobs whether because of poor performance or the coach took a better opportunity are gold mines for sniping their best commitments and/or portal targets. Texas is an apex predator taking advantage of chaos in other systems. Never know where new options are going to pop up.

I don't think of Oregon as particularly vulnerable, but I thoroughly enjoyed getting Sharma last cycle. Just like Wesley a month ago. I'd love to strip any of their top targets away from them.

Absolutely true re: ability to "post" or shock and shed an OT.    That said, there have been so many really good DE's who weren't necessarily "long" that I don't know if I'd value it the way some personnel departments have begun to in recent years.  I still like speed over any other measurable on a football field - I think more plays are made by good feet than anything else. Texas specifically has had players in that 6'2 - 6'3 range rush at a high level and be more than serviceable against the run (Orakpo, Sergio, Robison, Simmons).  You're also right about that room being really stacked.   Not a position of need at the current time, but I kind of admire the type of kid who will commit to a room knowing that it's full of NFL guys.   And fuck OU

This all hits close to home, as I took my 7 year old to Disney this summer for the first time. One of my striking memories wasn't something healthy and awesome with my family. It was us high tailing it out of the park at 9:45 or so at night, ahead of the fireworks. We're tired, and we don't give a shit about fireworks, but obviously, everyone else cares and everyone is all squeezing together on main street and every thoroughfare to get the best view, while we're walking the opposite direction on the sidewalks trying to beat any crowds. I saw not, one, not two, but THREE different people staring towards the castle tears streaming down their faces unabashedly, to watch a fucking FIREWORKS display. A fireworks display that happens every single night. Just weeping, like they saw Jesus rise from the grave, or the Apollo 13 astronauts crawl out of the splash capsule.

Disney Adults are fucking emotionally warped individuals. And don't let CTJ fool you, he's a member of Club 33. If you don't know what that is, google it.

I had a Disney adult as a roommate once. Matching shirts and a trip to Orlando for every family birthday, whole nine yards.

Literally could not understand why someone would ever want to vacation anywhere other than a Disney resort. Like, wanting to go to Rome (for example) instead of Eurodisney was an insane concept to her.

My wife had a friend who was pretty hot and was an unabashed Disney Adult. Her husband sort of went along to appease, I guess. I thought it was weird. Then one night we were having dinner with them and the other wife proposed that we have a couples swap. Out of the blue. Kreul’s wingspan was measured at 78.8” in June of ‘23 and he self reports on Twitter that it’s now 80”. Don’t think arm length is going to be a huge issue.
