Sovereign Citizen Thread

That's astounding.  What a maroon.  He's obviously never seen the old vaudeville routine "Just Pay The Two Dollars".

I just thought of a question for the Surly legal minds.  My wife works for a title company and reviews public records all the time.  She has told me before about people who have filed elaborate documents renouncing their citizenship, demanding refund of all taxes paid, etc.  My question is: what real impact, if any does such a document have?  Does it remove their right to vote?  Are they legally allowed to work in the US without a green card?  Or are they just engaged in mental masturbation?

Because if it really does remove their citizenship, I want to find out who they are and start fucking with them.  Calling their employers and asking if they have green cards.  Or, better yet, calling ICE on them.  Objecting to their names on the voter rolls.  That sort of thing.

You have to do it outside of the country and pay a crazy fee. You can’t do it in America. It’s also usually a good idea to line up a second citizenship but some nuts don’t do that.

The stuff your wife sees is just nutty sovereign citizen shit and they are all still citizens.

You could still fuck with them.  The odds local law enforcement know the ins outs and whatevers are probably about the same as us knowing all the fine details.  If it's a small town and the wack job is a known menace, and if we know one thing; it's these types of people have a real respect for the laws of the local community then the local cops probably would enjoy getting all up in his ass over nothing.

This stuff is spreading and it takes on local flavor which makes it even more delicious. When I was still there, a new “legal” theory had popped up that the Czechoslovak Federal Republic (successor to the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic) was not legally dissolved in 1993 during the Velvet Divorce and thus all Czech or Slovak laws and taxes were illegitimate. They had their own ID cards and everything, with similar results to sovereign citizens. They were also EU protesters and would make little stickers to cover up the EU symbol on the license plates (if they bothered to plate the car).

I tried to get some of their ID documents as a souvenir, in a desultory manner, but a bit of sleuthing on the process convinced me I wouldn’t want to answer any potential questions about it from actual authorities.

My surly friends, makes yourself a large cocktail, sit back and watch this whole thing. It is truly an enjoyable watch.  On a side-note, the whackjob, son and mom filed a multi million dollar lawsuit against the county for the arrest.   This is not a short video, but it is a gift that keeps on giving. The best part for me is when the deputies dragged the son out of the house for interfering with the traffic stop.   He is clearly auditioning for the least alpha male in the country job.
The key here is that the son’s friend that was stopped for bad brake lights tells the officer that he is “not a citizen of the United States.”.  That plus his friend pulling out a dictionary and goofy law books to explain why driving in the car is not driving. This indicates that the whole caboodle of them must be sovereign citizen nut jobs.
The French kiss is about a week ago the local grand jury indicted both of those dip shits.

I can’t tell you how much I truly hate these people.
Also, if they were black and pulled that shit, they’d be dead.

I wonder if we could pool enough money, especially since this movement is apparently becoming international, to purchase an undeveloped island far from any where else, and have it become Sovereign Citizen Island, and just drop these folks off after time served.  Let them know they are finally free of the tyranny.  You know, somewhere out in the middle of the Pacific.  Good luck fuckface, you are on your own.

And again, if I were the prosecutor in any of these cases, the first thing I would demonstrate to the court is that each of these folks cashed their stimulus checks.

Some "libertarians" tried that in the early 1970s. It was called the Republic of Minerva.

-- They claimed a small Pacific reef and planned to make it an full-fledged island for a libertarian utopia. They even minted some Minerva Dollars.

-- But, alas, Tonga said "Nope, not in our part of the Pacific" and chased them off the reef. Apparently, some libertarians went back in 1980s and Tongans chased them off again.

-- I first heard about this in 1990 from some rando dude at "Les Amis Cafe" (one-time Leftist hangout near UT on 24th, featured in Linklater's "Slacker"). Now replaced by a Starbucks. Said his dad was one of the people who tried to start Minerva. Somewhere in a box in my closet, I think I still have one of those Minerva dollars, which I bought for kicks.

Eleven people armed with long guns and dressed in tactical gear who claimed to be a part of group called "Rise of the Moors" were arrested following an hours-long standoff with Massachusetts police over the weekend.

Police said they found heavily armed men in two vehicles near Interstate 95 around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. A nine-hour standoff ensued before all 11 were arrested. No one was harmed in the incident.

Quote

All 11 men arrested in Wakefield have been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, use of body armor in commission of a crime, possession of a high capacity magazine, improper storage of firearms in a vehicle and conspiracy to commit a crime, police said. Hernandez, Johnson, Dow and the unnamed teen are also being charged with providing a false name to police, authorities said.

The teenager was released to parental custody while the 10 adults are being held at the Billerica House of Correction on $100,000 cash bail, authorities said.

On Tuesday, in Malden District Court, most of the men rejected the charges against them and most said they'd represent themselves. The court entered not guilty pleas on their behalf, according to MassLive.

This story is long, but wild, a guy claiming he was the Moorish Consul to China and the US tried to take a lady’s house. Twice.

Thanks for mansplaining Les Amis to a bunch of people who remember where GM Steakhouse and  Quackenbushes where.  Or those of us who watched movies at Dobie or shopped at the Gap on the drag.

And I love how all of the nut jobs are constantly recording their nut-jobbery on their cell phones to make the prosecutors job so much easier.

There is a video of a different son attending the county commission meeting after he signed up on the agenda to speak on the issue of county road maintenance.  He goes to the microphone and starts talking about the abuse to his family and how they were slandered - and when he’s cut off because that is not the topic of the agenda item, he responds “This is what your sheriffs are doing on the roads of this county”.  They escort him out.

The dumbest humans with the dumbest legal takes.

We all know what would have happened had those two been black.  The minute the second one reached back into his truck, they'd have their heads blown off.

Also, they're "sovereign citizens" but work for the government?  Stunned, I am.

Worth its weight in silver, unless it's not silver.

Back in the 70s/80s every libertarian and his crusty father-in-law bought silver ingots and had them minted into pseudo-silver-dollars because it always goes up Up UP, or at least it does when you mark it up for your marks.

Years back, by completely legal means, I got hold of a variety of them [not including Republic of Minerva, sadly] for under spot price and was flogging them for double spot price on eBay back when it sucked less. I would dig up the back story of each "coin," and it generally resembled some scheme from Fargo with less murder, but usually a good bit of familial fallings-out and the occasional Federal crack-down when they looked a little too much like actual US money.

Some were quite beautiful. I doubt the speculators got rich, but at least they (maybe) paid the artists for the designs.

Went on a hiking and camping trip in ‘05 around the Sawtooth Mountains and stopped in Stanley to buy some groceries.  We were in the produce section and my buddy (also a Texas-ex) discussing our campsite menu amongst ourselves, minding our own business.  Some slack jawed young man in his early thirties or so was with him mom shopping and overheard us talking.  He asked “Where are you from?” I replied “Texas”.  He then excitedly said “They got a lot of rednecks there, don’t they?” I mumbled something in response but thought “Yeah, but you’d fit right in buddy.”

It's rural America with a lack of proximity to anything urban.  The largest city in Idaho is Boise -- 240K or so.

For those who haven't ever considered it, look at the giant swath of land running from the SE up through the Midwest and west towards the coast, with virtually nothing urban.  (Yes, the map is a decade old.)

You're correct, and your point stands, but ALWAYS go with metros instead when talking about population comparisons of major cities. Notice your map doesn't have Miami, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Kansas City, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Tampa, Orlando, etc.

Top 50 metros (all with 1,000,000 plus) in 2017:
