Not that they had a chance but why go for 2 and end all hope if you fail instead of taking the extra point and only be down by 8 in a one possession game?

Because it's not a one possession game if you miss the 2 point conversion at the end of the game. It's a 2 possession game you just don't know it yet and then you don't have enough time to even try to do anything about it. ClubWhatever's sarcastic response shows the logical failure of his preferred strategy. He assumes you are right that it's a one possession game when it's an 8 point margin and scoffs at the fact you don't know how many possessions you need until you attempt the 2 point conversion.

As most of the people who are wrong about this do, you are comparing missing the 2 point conversion after the first TD with making it after the second. Obviously it's better to successfully convert it. Now compare being successful after the first TD with missing it after the second.

A lot of the “go for 2” analytics started looking bad once more teams actually tried it, same for onside kicks. Going for it on 4th has held up.

Mike Tomlin used to go for 2 a lot on his first td of the game, when he had the offense to do it. If you have an offense that can convert 2 yards more often than not, then sure, go for it. But if you can’t, the analytics break down.

What does this even mean

kick the XP. It’s a one possession game. It can be tied in one possession. When the opponent gets the ball back they now need to think about play calling, risking a pass to try and get a first down to keep the ball away from you, etc. You go for 2 and don’t get it, now your opponent knows to just run the clock. Also since your players are human they lose inspiration knowing how low the odds of getting 2 more possessions are.

It's pretty obvious. It's not a known one possession game. It is either a one or two possession game depending on the result of the two point conversion attempt.

This is a complete lack of situational awareness about the game. Penn State was going to attempt an onside kick either way. If Michigan got the ball back they were running three times to get first downs. Everyone understands this in that game situation. The only difference is that if Penn State goes for 2 after the first touchdown they now know if the onside kick is successful if they need to score once or twice. This is the critical piece of information.

As opposed to losing inspiration when they fail to convert the 2 point conversion with 3 seconds left and have lost the game? If a coach has done his job and explained things to his players this isn't an issue either way. They're prepared to react to the result of the conversion. Either way this entire argument is so absurd. Oh no they'll be sad with two minutes left instead of being sad with no time left. Either way they've lost, who gives a shit? I found out I lost later in the game! Woohoo, that's gotta be worth something in the standings!

Go root for Pedo and lecture people about clowns LOL

Not so much FOR them, just AGAINST the Ann Arbor Astros.

Michigan gets caugh cheating during the current season, then wanna whine about "us vs everybody" like they're the victims in all this. Get fucked. Don't fuck around if you don't want to find out.

Or they could, you know, just kick the XP and know they need to score once before even attempting the onside kick.
