One thing nobody seems to be taking about - a decent amount of his idiotic old folk voter base has croaked since the 2020 election.  I don’t think they have been replaced with young maga voters either.

This tired trope irritates me. New Magas turn 18 every day. Blue collar folks, rural folks, children of fundies.

there's truth to it.  if more of those 65+s die off, that cuts more into trump.  if you add more 18s, that adds more to biden.

image.thumb.png.f0b5715509e08cbdf2a8e5b3fb6656eb.png

However, what is left unseen is whether a 45 year old votes again like a 45 year old 4 years later when he's 49, or if he still votes like he's 45.  I think the assumption is that because the candidates are the same, the vote history will be stickier than the age defaults.  Someone voted for Trump as a 45 year old will do so as a 49, and same for Biden.

When she drops out she's going to endorse Dotard.

No offense, but this is old thinking about prior elections. Many persons voting for Haley are doing so because they don't want Trump. They want to vote GOP, but they don't want a traitor. Who really gives a shit about Haley in any other context? We're not the only ones who see an existential threat.

If she endorses Trump, I don't think those voters slavishly shuffle over to the Trump camp. I also don't see her expecting much from Trump by endorsing him. All she really gets is some shame for capitulating, so why rush to do that?

I like that she exists as an alternative vote in the GOP to keep levering doubters further from the would-be dictator.

I personally think you are giving way too much credit to people who still call themselves republicans. Even if they don't particularly like trump, they'll pull the lever for him in November, for one of a million reasons they come with. It's either abortion (can't possibly vote for a baby killing democrat), or gays (but the democrats want to destroy traditional marriage), or immigrants (at least he's not for open borders like the democrats), or the old stand-by "at least he isn't a SOCIALIST" (keeping in mind that they've been brainwashed to believe that anything proposed by democrats is socialism). I hope I'm wrong, but the last several years have killed any hope I've had for sanity in this country.

I don't want to hear any other fucking tropes.

Women and hispanics who vote for Trump are life members of the Leopards Eating People's Faces party.  It's fucking brutally idiotic, but "brutally idiotic" might as well be engraved on our coinage by this point.

And all these.  They will simply make up reasons.  They don't have to be true, or even close to it.  They just have to FEEL true, based on the emotional conditioning they've received from watching thousands of hours of Fox, Newsmax, etc.

Fair, but remember, it took every last kook and nutjob for him to barely squeak by in 2016.  Just 3% of people decide to either stay home or not vote for him, it's a blow out in our favor nationally.  3%, that's all it takes.

I never thought I'd have someone tell me that I'm giving too much credit to any Republicans.

I don't predict or know what percentage of Haley voters may sit the next election out rather than vote for Trump. Whatever that percentage is, I think that Haley staying in the race solidifies it and maybe increases it.

I'm maybe the worst predicter of what voters will do in the history of the game. I don't think it's a particularly risky prediction that some Haley voters aren't really that interested in Haley. She's all they have left if they're looking for a way to keep Trump out of office.

Anyone calling themself a Republican is someone voting to harm the nation. They blind themselves to the deceit, but, like Pence and maybe Haley, there may be a line they're unwilling to cross even for the criminal organization they patronize.

MSNBC interviewed a NH woman last night probably in her early 30s, who had been undecided between Dotard and Haley. She said she ultimately voted for Dotard, mainly because of how unfairly his term ended in 2020.

We're just dealing with so many stupid uninformed people.

To be clear, I'm all for Haley staying in as long as possible and having some success, if for no other reason, to piss of dotard and hopefully accelerate his dementia/obesity/heart conditions etc. I saw reference earlier to Haley outpolling Biden in a head to head, and I think that is absolute insanity. I think republicans who don't like trump will still vote for him as I described above, but if Haley gets the nomination, a bunch of die hard trumpers won't vote at all. He's the only reason they even pay attention, and if he loses to a brown woman, they'll hate her just as much as Biden.

Those losses would be more than offset, IMO, by gaining back voters who normally vote Republican but can't stand Trump and the independents who would vote for her but would never vote for Trump.

They are largely made up of the same Bernie voters who loudly declared they weren't voting for Biden at this point in 2020.  I am very skeptical that the Israel stuff plays even a minor role in anything 9+ months from now.

I get what you're saying, but I'm concerned about younger voters sitting it out. They're unenthused right now.

Even though college-aged voters and those a little older in their 20s don't generally vote at high shares, their cohort, especially young women, has been coming out to vote since 2018 in much higher numbers than historically. And I'm fairly certain that has made a difference.

Offsetting any lingering anger about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is, of course, SCOTUS striking down Roe. Biden's team and all down-ballot candidates need to not only clearly communicate Trump's culpability, but they also need to say what they're going to do about it: pro-rights SCOTUS nominees as replacements, federal legislation to guarantee rights nationally, etc.

Also, I fully understand why Kamala isn't popular nationally among the larger public, but is that the case among Gen Z? I honestly don't know, but it could be worth a shot at having her lead campus outreach efforts to young women.

The tuition stuff is helping, but that's not the solution. Go bold with some national initiatives to drive down tuition costs. What does that look like? I don't know.

I'm also hoping a decision comes out before November on rescheduling weed, but that might not matter because so many Blue states have already legalized it. It could matter in places like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia though.

Keep messaging Civil Rights in general: protecting equality, free and fair elections, etc. Talk about protecting their future: the environment.

All of the above, not only speaks to what Biden can do over the next four years, but what the platform stands for beyond him. Or, god forbid, he dies or becomes infirm while in office, and Kamala takes over. She needs to show she can hypothetically carry the torch -- even if she's not the party's preferred candidate in '28.

Finally, let's all keep our fingers crossed on the economy, as inexperienced young people often are first to the chopping block.

If Kamala isn't the right spokesperson for all of the above, Pete sure as hell could, but he's not the appropriate surrogate which is awkward.

Yep, and "the economy was better under trump ; he kept us out of war: he's being unfairly harassed; he's being taken off the ballot; he would spend our dollars here instead of Ukraine; he would secure the boarder; (and my favorite) I don't like Trump but he cares about the working class."

Inflation is enough to screw Biden despite the economic realities. Joe Blow doesn't understand GDP or global financial circumstances, but he does notice his dollar doesn't go as far.

It was shocking Trump won before. This time it would be unsurprising at best.

Stick that microphone back in her face and say "Now you do understand that every time Trump loses, whether it be a caucus, a primary, a general election, whatever, he says the results were rigged right? You do understand what's happening there correct?". Fucking educate people on the spot, if you can.

Maybe, but he also wouldn't do anything to disrupt Iranian weapon shipments to Russia. Then again might recall the carrier fleets and send weapons to Russia.

We were really lucky in some ways to have so little unrest abroad during his term. Could have been worse.

The media is wholly to blame and irredeemable.
They treat insane criminals as rational beings and give equal air time to lies.

NPR drives me nuts. The equal time bullshit is essentially pro GOP.

'What do you think Trump meant when he said he wanted to murder Biden?"
They had some hack on before NH just spewing GOP lies with no blowback.

Every major event by the Biden campaign has been about democracy + abortion.  Then they let Joe do smaller events focused on Bidenomics.

Harris is the one doing the most abortion + voting rights outreach to voters nationally.  The problem is none of it is covered by the MSM - it doesn't sell clicks.

The China/Russia stuff is largely out of his hands and was set in motion before he got elected. But he could and should put an end to his unwavering support for genocide. I'd still vote for him if I lived in a swing state, because voting is like washing your hands after taking a shit. I don't love doing it, but it's something I need to do. It's not a "statement." It's not an act of defiance or protest. And perhaps I'd feel differently if a better realistic alternative were made available to me. But there isn't one.

At the same time, a lot of my fellow Americans feel like their vote must be "earned." I disagree with them, but I can't change their minds nor the fact that they exist. Genocide Joe had better wise up to the fact that his Israel policies are deeply unpopular with those voters, and a large number of them in key swing states could realistically cost him 2024. I think they are dumb to vote or abstain against their interests, but unlike Biden, I'm not in a position to sway them.

I’ve seen a ton of “I don’t care about Trump, all I know is I could afford groceries in 2020” type stuff on Reddit, which skews very young. It gets shouted down, but that train of thought is definitely circulating among younger people, and like some fuckhead said: if you’re explaining, you’re losing.

I took a long road trip from Texas to New York with my daughter this summer to help her move into a new apartment at school. We started having a conversation about Ukraine, and she immediately brought up that she didn't understand why we weren't supporting the Palestinians as much as the Ukrainians since they're both being illegally occupied by a stronger military force. And this was before all the shit that's happened since October.

Yes, I'd say the kids care about this issue, bigly, much more than ours cared about Tibet back in the '90s.

Marc Thiessen, who I generally think is a tool, makes a good point about Trump 2.0: Right now, it's basically a TruthSocial/Inside the Beltway/Talking Heads thing.  Once Americans, who have no real passion for Biden(and never really did), but aren't actually following the race beyond the headlines, get a full fall of this version of Trump, with the belligerent, incoherent rants, saying he's going to become a dictator, his gross, disheveled physical appearance, etc. a lot of tired, unenthusiastic voters are going to remember why they voted against him in 2020.

Counter point:

Trump will be so tied up with his court cases that he can't be out there doing his crazy shit.

He somehow gets sympathy from voters for his 'persecution'.

Any bump in the road in the economy will be covered to the 1,000,000th degree  and the MSM will keep asking 'Will voters blame Biden for it?' over and over again unit they burn it into Joe Blow's mind that Biden is bad for the economy.

If I was Haley I would do anything to stay in the race even after Trump has secured the necessary delegates. There is a strong possibility that Trump will have a criminal conviction by the convention and there just might be enough people that turn against him. It would be a bloodbath because Trump isn't going away quietly. But if you're Haley, she wants to be the next logical choice.

I'm guessing you could control 90% of the GQP voting base for another decade with nothing more than a Trump hologram (like that Tupac concert) and a soundboard of Trump's greatest hits. A few minutes of Lock Her Up, and those rubes would nut themselves like Randy Marsh and break out the checkbook.

The PSA guys have been saying the media needs to start showing his rallies and just general batshittery to remind people of why they hated him before.  For those not paying attention (pretty much most of the electorate), they have no idea how bad it's been.

Doubtful.  A lot of these types don't bother voting, or if they are that enthusiastic about voting for a third party, they were never going to vote for a major party.

If you know anybody like that, try to find out their past voting record through state records (some states like Oklahoma make it easy to see who is registered with what party or voted in what election, Texas, it's harder).

what's also alarming are these terrible poll questions about whether a conviction in any of these matters will change their mind or make him "unfit" to be president.

there seem to be plenty of people that are ok with the indictments, but claim they will sing a different tune if he's convicted.  which is to say, there's a part of their brains that think these charges are all just bullshit/witch hunt.

first off, anyone who says a conviction makes a difference is a fucking liar.  second of all, whomever writes these poll questions needs a slap to the face.
