Christ Almighty! Catching up on season 3 derry girls. actually loved ep 1, now on the dead nun's aunt and dead grandma episode. all of the episodes definitely grand IMO. But yeah, olra in the background, the father in law hating on gerry, the english cousin getting shit on, and interplay of the two main chicks are all top notch; need a rewatch in order to catch all the jokes even if due to the difficulty of the accent. Very Veep in that respect for me.

New series, “Inside Man”, starring David Tennant and Stanley Tucci and created and written by Steven Moffat (Dr. Who and Sherlock).

Only on episode one but really good so far!

The English part is so fucking unbelievable I had to give it up. The damn vicar takes the blame for child porn and locks his assistant in the basement? Fucking stupid. Like the death row dudes though even if the black dude is the “recorder” because has a photographic memory 😂

She's not his assistant, she's the tutor for the son. But the ridiculous keystone cop idiocy that ends with her handcuffed in the basement is eye rolling.

Been working through Cabinet of Curiosities for Halloween weekend.  Guillermo del toro has his name on it, and introduces each story like Alfred Hitchcock would do or rod Serling on twilight zone. 8 scary stories, an hour each. Nothing too scary or crazy.

cast is good. F Murray Abraham in one. Ron Weasley in another.  Crispin glover, shockingly, playing a strange and creepy character.

I thought The Autopsy was great.

Season 5 of the Crown dropped today. I’m only 1 episode in but see McNulty as Charles is going to take a little getting used to.

I was jarring at first to see McNulty - by the end, I thought he did a pretty good job.  Spoiler Alert - I don't think I'm going to like Prince Charles much at the end of this season.

Dominic West is entirely too sexy and charismatic and confident to be a believable Prince Charles.

Charles is a jug-eared, ruddy faced, insecure yet vain jealous man.

And the whole nonsense storyline of Charles and Camilla being star-crossed lovers who were only kept apart due to The Firm is revisionist history.

Camilla wanted no part of the RF and was besotted with Parker-Bowles and Charles had three other mistresses between his on-again, off-again affair with Camilla.

And leaving out the true depth of Diana’s relationship with Dr. Kahn was a bad choice. The show made it seem like a brief dalliance. It actually lasted a long while and she made a trip to Pakistan with him to meet his family and they were talking about getting married.

Until The Firm found out and went to work. They wouldn’t countenance the mother of the future king being married to a Muslim immigrant.

That relationship is allegedly what started the surveillance.

And I hated the casting of Imelda Staunton as QEII and Johnathan Price as Prince Phillip.

They did portray his relationship with Penny Knatchbull accurately though. And the fact that QEII allowed it.

This was my most anticipated season and ended up being my least favorite.

Elizabeth Debecki was the only bright spot as Princess Diana but I thought they only showed her troubles and virtually ignored all her charity work - the AIDS work and land mine work. The only charity work they showed was used as a plot device to show her pursuing Dr. Kahn.

re: the pepsi show...

Spoiler

i thought it was fine.  documentaries are tough when they don't have a compelling ending, which i felt this one did not.  it was kinda oh well, maybe i should've taken that money, but the real riches are the friendships you make along the way lol.

as for pepsi - those guys were smug corporate pricks and definitely were trying to watch their words 25 years later to make it sound like they were on the "right side" - they were not on the right side.  they fucked up, it wasn't the first time, and they got away with it, and i'm sure have done the same since.  fuck pepsi anyway, not sure how anyone can't tell the difference.  #cokeforlife

that said, one of my least favorite parts (or recurring lines of dialogue) was from john's team "look, we got the points, we want the jet, that's the deal".  you didn't "get the points".  you didn't run around all crazy, collect points, figure out the best way to buy/store/drink/sell pepsi (which would've all been awesome tv).  the idea was "drink pepsi - get stuff".  he didn't drink pepsi or even buy pepsi.  he didn't really follow the rules or "spirit" of the contest.  he found a loophole (buying points).  good for him and fuck pepsi, a loophole is still a hole and he should've gotten the jet or a legit settlement in place of it.

but the way they said it kinda misrepresented their efforts.  he figured it out and he happened to know a rich guy with an awesome attitude.  if he had done all that other shit and actually collected the points, spent $4mm on pepsi, figured out a way to offload it to mom and pop stores for cost, done the work for months and months, i would feel for him a little more.  he figured out where they were sloppy, he tried to exploit it, he could've had a million bucks for it, but "he wanted the jet" which was also kinda silly.

it was an ok way to spend 2 hours.  not sure why it was multi-part.  the stuff in the phillipines looked like way more compelling subject matter.

"Pepsi, Where's My Jet?" is pretty funny and interesting.

Watched it last night after reading your recommendation here.  I enjoyed it.  If I were on a jury for this case, I would have sided with Jet boy.  Hoffman seemed like a really cool dude.

Funny, I would have sided with Pepsi. No reasonable person can think they would be getting a harrier jet. Get real.

It's stuff like that that so many commercials -- no matter how innocuous or obviously joking have disclaimers at the end of them. People trying to get one over. That said, I though the main guy and Hoffman were awesome. As was the ad exec from the outside agency. The Pepsi execs seemed right out of central casting.

And yes, a doc about the Philippines contest would be a must-see.

In my defense, I was very very high the 2 nights I watched and finished the show

I’m still with it, on ep 6. One thing I find weird is how everyone speaks different languages, Cantonese, Spanish, danish, German, etc. but somehow they understand each other. Think I’m gonna regret sticking with this one.
