The Times is reporting that President-Elect Donald J. Trump has prepared an Executive Order for his First Day in Office, which would see the Medical Discharge of over 15,000 Transgender Servicemembers from the U.S. Military, as well as a Ban on Transgender Individuals from joining any Branch of the Armed Forces.

Yeah, this is cool.

Promotion delayed for general who was the last US service member out of Afghanistan

I am sure DOD will be fine with this. From all I have spoken with he was very well liked.

Quote

WASHINGTON — A batch of military promotions approved by the Senate on Thursday left out Lt. Gen. Christopher Donahue, an officer who oversaw the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and is now nominated to lead the Army in Europe and Africa.

It remains unclear why Donahue’s nomination to become commanding general of U.S. Army Europe and Africa and receive a promotion to four-star general was not included.

However, The Washington Post reported that a hold was placed on Donahue’s promotion by Sen. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma.

Donahue is best known for being the last U.S. service member to leave Afghanistan, a moment that was captured in a grainy night vision photo that went viral in 2021. He led the 82nd Airborne Division at the time and was responsible for securing the airfield at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.

The chaotic evacuation of Americans and Afghan refugees from Kabul continues to be a frequent target of criticism by Republicans who blame President Joe Biden’s administration for a suicide attack at the airport that killed 13 service members.

A 2022 independent review by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction said decisions made by Biden as well as former President Donald Trump were key factors in the rapid collapse of Afghanistan’s security forces.

As Trump readies for a second term, he is reportedly searching for a way to prosecute U.S. military officers who were directly involved in the violent withdrawal. He has called the hectic exit of American troops from Afghanistan after 20 years of war a “humiliation.”

Are there really 15,000 transgender people in the military?  Seems high.

You have a little under 3 million people active duty and reserves combined. Sounds about right to me.

And are functionally all of those people performing their duties, serving their country, and not causing any problem?  Of course.

Is there any reason to do this OTHER than to be a performative fucking dick?  Nope.  Because "be a performative fucking dick who does mean shit because it's fucking mean" is the entire reason he was elected.  He's a shitty human, voted for by shitty human, to do shitty things to other humans.  The cruelty is the point.  The cruelty is how you know it's working.

Dotard has announced tariffs of 25% on Canada and Mexico.

Well shit... And 10% on all goods from China, even above what they may already be.

So hey Karen the Chi-O, your avocados just went up 20%. Now lets do all the other shit we import from those two nations. Oh and beer and Tequila.

Interesting USDA graphic. Don't know how much is Mexico and Canada.

Doesn't matter.  Trump voters don't eat fresh fruit or vegetables.

When decorating your meal, make sure to arrange the onions in the shape of Peter Lorre's face. It's steak a la Ugarte! Garnish with small, inedible onions.
WARNING! The carrots here are not to be eaten. Your manly meat-a-rifficness will diminish if you eat the carrots. Vegetables are for commies.

Hehehe. I remember when quiche was considered weak to eat. The slogan was real men don't eat quiche.

My dad was in a SF unit and his favorite shirt said Real Men eat whatever the hell they want.

Dotard has announced tariffs of 25% on Canada and Mexico.

Also, if you want to inject a giant glass-studded billy club up the ass of the Texas economy, that's a great start.

Ask the President and CEO of the Texas Association of Business:

Quote

How crucial is cross-border trade with Mexico to Texas' economy?

"Cross-border trade is very important to Texas," says Hamer.

Mexico remains the United States’ top trading partner, with total two-way trade hitting $807 billion in 2023, surpassing China. Of that, trade between Texas and Mexico alone reached $272.3 billion, making Mexico Texas’ no. 1 trading partner for the past 16 years.

Hamer emphasizes the significance: "Trade with Mexico creates jobs in Texas, keeps our economy moving ... and maintains efficient supply chains."

Also, this was a giant gift to Trump's co-president, Elon Musk.  Much of the rest of the auto industry in the US has long had a bilateral relationship with Mexico, manufacturing and importing parts from there to plants in the US.  Want to harm Elon's competitors?  This is a great way to do that.  Want to end up causing layoffs of UAW labor?  Excellent step to doing that.

Want to harm US exporters when Canada and Mexico do what they have to, and impose similar tariffs?  Congrats, you did it.

He's using tariffs as an idiotic blunt instrument.  Because he's a fucking idiot.

The leopards are about to feast.

Doesn’t that violate the USMCA that was signed in …. Checks notes …. The trump administration?

The only thing dumber than making a deal with Trump is expecting Trump to honor the deal.

A rule utterly ignored by the idiots who voted for him, employing an incredible blend of "he's lying about doing all the stuff I don't like, and telling the truth about doing all the stuff I do like" rationalization that is breathtaking to behold....if it wasn't so absolutely fucking stupid.

So, homeboy just won an election that was about inflation more than any other issue, and one of his first announcements is that he's going to drive inflation to new heights?

We are so turbo fucked.

I don't know, man. It's almost like people that voted for him aren't particularly smart.

That makes the tariffs hit 35% for Chinese goods. All of your construction / ag costs are going up again. All machine parts that go on those John Deere (and others, including CAT) machines just went up an additional 10% plus fees.

We're buy all of our big needs now.
Already planning with the wife for 25 percent increases. Will go out far less and minimize what we consume. Honestly, it's something we needed to do anyway. We had become too complacent in materialism. This is a good time to reject American consumerist culture.

I reject your dumb ass.

I'm making my kids watch that so they'll think twice about buying shit off Shein and other shit cheap labor companies. I think second hand stores are going to do really well the next 4 years as people both have to sell their shit to afford stuff and people only buy shit from these places because it will be cheaper than going to retailers. Fuck, if Trump kills Shein then I'll actually put that down as a huge accomplishment of his that I would be in favor of.

The major, broad tariffs on Mexico and Canada in the face of his own treaty is so phenomenally stupid and harmful to the American economy that I have to think the Trump team, rest of the GOP, donors, etc. get him to never implement it. The supposed justification is another migrant caravan bit, they probably just make up another story and say it dissolved in fear of gigachad Trump border control or something.
