I will offer this....IF the Dems ever re-take the White House (I know, it will happen when unicorns fly and fart rainbows), the first act of the new POTUS should be executive orders freezing/rescinding all federal dollars spent in red states.  Every.  Single.  Dollar.  Including Medicare, medicaid, all of it.
They want a Civil War.  Let's fight it to win.

I understand where you’re coming from, but 80 million arsonists are lighting this country on fire, and if the Democratic Party ever regains control, I’d like them to aggressively put those fires out, rather than spraying gas all over them.

I have a family, a career, and most of my friends here. My child is 2 and has her entire life ahead of her. I’m still clinging to some small hope that this is salvageable, even though the chances of that get worse by the day. If I truly thought there was a 0% chance of recovery, then I should move today.

If we get a Democrat president again, I would like to see executive orders on Day 1 that dismantle 100% of what Trump had done. Re-establish institutions like USAID. Rebuild the CDC and EPA and everything else that has been damaged. Lay off 99% of ICE agents and put that money into climate research and medicine and healthcare. Take a long hard look at the structure of our government, elections, congressional districting maps, etc to reduce the chances of this happening again.

Is it a long shot? Absolutely. But it was also a long shot for Germany and France and Spain and Italy about 87 years ago.

Corrupt Howard Nutlick

TLDR: Basically insider trading on the inevitable reversal of tariffs.

Quote

All that said, it’s hard to imagine anything more emblematic of the Trump Era than what is for all intents and purposes still the Commerce Secretary’s company (yes, yes, arms length hand off to his twenty-something sons) making bets on something Nutlick himself has significant influence over. Indeed, far more important than whatever influence Nutlick has over tariff policy is that significant visibility he has into the bet’s probable outcome.

Quote

The current market for these refund rights is already in the tens of billions and could hit the hundreds of billions by years end. According to Wired, Cantor said in July that it had “the capacity to buy the rights to hundreds of millions of dollars” of tariff refunds. So the amounts we’re talking about, both at risk and in potential windfalls, is very, very big.

Cosigned ... and after we get back to square 1, let's take a long, hard look at these sweeping, seemingly limitless EO & pardon powers.

Pardons have no limits, for good reason, but EOs are extremely limited. Trump is just daring everyone else to stop him, and doing as much damage as he can before the courts intervene. He is losing a lot in court, except in a handful of cases in SCOTUS. He spikes the football when that happens, but that doesn't mean EOs are limitless.

Does that include nerve gas?

This is correct. He treats them like royal decrees and yet in reality they are memos to exec branch employees and often don’t actually implement the things the White House claims

it doesn't matter how he treats them, it matters who is using them for cover to commit crimes while the courts decide if what they're doing is illegal or not

Oh sure but perhaps we all need to be reminded of what those countries did to those fascists after the war in order to make that long shot happen.

Well that and the fact that those countries were visited by war, death and destruction severely before they came to their senses.

After Biden was elected, I remember posting a couple of times about how important it was to have a national conversation. About how we got to the point to where we actually elected, of all people, Donald Trump president. Like a 9/11 commission type deal, to figure out how we can come back from the place we were in where something that horrific actually happened in this country. I figured something like that might actually happen after 1/6, when Trump's political career was obviously over.

Oops.

idiocy aside, that actually does make sense from a skills perspective. Alabama is where much of America's rocket arsenal is built, tested, and maintained. And it makes sense to spread around service branch HQ's so they're more geographically diverse and harder to target all at the same time

This announcement is pocketsand. They desperately needed an excuse to stage a proof of life, and this (which was all but certain to happen the moment he won the election) is just one of the many stupid distraction ideas in the filing cabinet. Let's see if he can pull this off.

There is no reason to keep even 1% of ICE around. That's like Germany holding onto the SS. We made it to 2001 without them and we don't need them moving forward.

So how hopped up on Adderall / other PEDs are they going to have Trump for what will likely be a 20-minute appearance?  Hopefully RFK Jr. is overseeing his "supplements" for this performance.

Fox News has been talking for the last two hours about 50 shootings and X number of deaths in Chicago over Labor Day weekend. They have the drunk lady that he made US Attorney for DC on for about 15 minutes. He’s announcing National Guard to Chicago today.

And don't get me wrong, I find it heartbreaking.  It makes me physically ill.  To know that this nation is already lost for at least 1-2 generations.  The hell we have entered is something we can no longer hope to abbreviate, or go around.  There is no way but "through."  And that path necessarily involves defeating -- by crushing -- the disease that put us here.  We should have executed every officer who served in the Confederacy, and many of the enlisted men, and ALL of the leadership/politicians.  We have to learn the lessons of history.

You don't deal with piece of shit fascists by having conversations and understanding them.  You have to crush them.  Show them exactly as much mercy as they showed their enemies.  Scratch that...show them LESS mercy than that.

This is an existential fight.  And all the absolute awfulness that entails.  The sooner you realize that, the sooner we might have a fighting chance.

I have kids too.  It makes me want to puke knowing that this is their future.  But that's what it is.  Wishing it were different won't make any difference.

They can’t be having a national address from the White House to announce the change of headquarters for a dept. Or to announce a name change.

I mean sure they could I guess, with this crew, but it will be hilarious. “Thank you for your attention to this matter. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.”

LOS ANGELES — A federal judge in California on Tuesday ruled that the Trump administration violated a 19th-century law barring the use of soldiers for civilian law enforcement activities when it mobilized 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles in June.
