That is not a true statement. And just to be clear what I’m saying here, I’m saying that Bitcoin trading is regulated as a commodity by CFTC, and various other agencies have the usual responsibilities over businesses and individuals in addition to that, ie SEC, FinCEN, OFAC, IRS, etc. 

on top of that, there are a patchwork of state laws and regulators, the most notable being NYDFS and their BitLicense.

Okay, I misrepresented and misunderstood this factoid I read earlier today:
