Wasn't his one of the few that kept power during the freeze?

Yep.  Bottom line, one of our two family homes, a mile apart from each other, has been among the last 1% (or even fewer) to get power back in 1) the big freeze, 2) the ice storm (our home was without power 4-5 days in each one of those), and now 3) the mini-hurricane at my old man's house.

Before these, the longest we'd ever been out of power was in Houston during Alicia in 1983, and my folks after Ike in 2008 -- in both cases, well into day 3, then the power came back on.  Never for 4-5 days.  Now?  We've been without power for 4-5 days three times in five years.

Got a generator for our casa a few years back (used it in the ice storm).  Figured all that was going wrong at my old man's house was losing some food left in the freezer, which all things considered, was just a coupla hundred bucks worth.  Didn't think we should bug the neighbors with our (louder than the one you posted) generator just for that.

Other idea would be some big-ass spare Yetis that can find use between weather events.

Got those, but honestly, with the freezer kinda full, it kept things frozen/cold for 2+ days (better than the yeti would do -- I have a couple of good coolers, we did use them in the snowpocalypse -- didn't even need refrigeration or ice, just filled them, topped them off with snow, and left them outside - saved the more expensive fridge and freezer items that way).

It just seems that storms and major power loss are becoming a way of life around here.  Lived in Austin nearly 40 years, and the three worst weather events for us have been in the last 5 years.

Want to feel some nostalgia?

Presenting WeatherStar 4000.   Maybe this has been posted here before, but I couldn't find it.   He even has the music down.    You can run it in kiosk mode.

And here's his GitHub

Now that's one of the cooler things I've come across. Thanks for sharing.
