The established USC Pres might find himself looking for a job too if he resisted hiring Urban again if he had a chance.   If there is another fan base who is fit to be tied next to ours, it's USC's as they've slid into the same cycle mediocrity and shit storms as we have in a similar time frame.

SHE was brought in with the express mandate of resolving the pay-for-admissions scandal, and previously presided over the post-UNC academic scandal. I think SHE is comfortable with the size of HER 'nads.

Well I can think of a certain defensive coordinator that Urban proclaims love for that I'd much rather get rid of before Carrington.  And oh, maybe we can bring back Zach Smith.
He was a real good hire by Urban, clearly.  Now maybe everyone loves Urban so much that the entire Ohio State coaching staff will jump at the chance to join him in Austin.  But I think we might be able to find a spot to retain one recruiting coordinator who has proven himself to be pretty dang good.

Look, we all like Carrington.  Maybe he stays on....but probably not.  Coaches like to bring in their own people.  Maybe Urban has some connection to BC or makes a spot for him, it could happen.

But everytime there is a coaching change people talk about the good coach or staff member that the new coach should keep....and it very rarely actually happens.

TFB....it writes itself at this point

Take this bit of news for whatever it’s worth as it pertains to practice, but  I have some good news regarding the week.

I was told by a source close to the team that this past week of practice leading up to the Oklahoma State game was the “best week of practice we have had” so far.

The source added the players are still bought in and “no one is panicking” despite the outside noise.

Again. Head coach Tom Herman has mentioned the team having good practices in the past just to disappoint on Saturday. But at least wanted to share a sliver of positivity considering the week Texas fans has experienced this weekend.

I'm sure they do have good practices.  But when game time comes turtle hides in his shell

You serious?  Carrington is the best person on staff as far as I can tell.  Think of how much worse our recruiting classes would have been the past few years without him carrying weight and pitching in to personally recruit entire position groups on occasion to cover for subpar coaches.  He'd be lethal if we actually had a decent on field product to sell, and a head coach that doesn't come across as a dick to most kids and their parents.  We should definitely try to retain him if we can.

Yes, he’s serious. There are plenty of people that can recruit. He’s free to interview but anyone enabling the current group we have is probably looking for a job soon

Tom Herman is not that big of a moron.

Does Trey Elling have any connection to SLC or is this just a guy making shit up? Does Elling even have any connection to recruiting at all - never even heard of the guy and I spend most of my time here in the 'crootin threads.

Tom has gotta be the dumbest fucking Mensa award-winner in recorded history.

I'm sure Herman is going to be fired this year.  The money men are probably looking at the coaches in the Big 12 saying what the fuck?  The TCU big money guys must be giving them a whole load of shit at the get togethers.  We just need CDC, to not be a pussy and to make a strategic decision to do it now to save the recruiting class.

better coaches than Herman

Patterson, Gundy, Riley

probably better

Kleimann, Campbell

given his recruiting classes and his performance, he's likely tied for 6th with Aranda, Wells, and grasseater.

Nick Saban said today that “defense is no longer key to winning in college football.”

No shit. So we should be able to win the Big 12 now. If only he had dropped this gem on us before the season started? Selfish SOB always hoarding all the good football knowledge.

The truth is, I’m super giddy that we could possibly have Meyer. I hope we can make it happen. Mind blown over possibly being able to win Big 12.

And the key to this is depth/development.  I remember an article years back Mack gave about the keys to beating Tech and their O-line splits.  He mentioned rotating in THIRTEEN different guys across the D-line over the course of the game to keep them fresh and relentlessly attack the tiring O-line.  We have to develop a pipeline of players across the board.  When Urban's tOSU team won the tile they did it with their 3rd string QB.  Let that sink in.  We have to have depth across the spectrum of positions as Clemson and AL have done.  It's critical in today's fast paced games.

And not being like the 9th or 10th most penalized team in the damn country. Hopefully, the new HC (Urban—still to much for me to process) can fix that. Matthew McConaughy was on Colin Cowherd and Colin asked him about why Texas isn’t back—in his answer he mentioned something about continuing what Herman started about the alignment of our goals (meaning to win Big 12/MNC). The way he said it though was like almost “the new coach” should continue with that premise. Build upon it. Colin mentioned that he was “rooting” for Herman to turn it around and MM just nodded. He knows Herman is gone. I’m sure the interview is available to see. Mostly about his book and stuff. But a pretty decent segment on UT football which was nice.

Yeah I’ve heard they are really focused this week.   Kersetter has been hitting two different players at the same time out of bounds and after the whistle.    Focusness.

Yep. You gotta evolve. Like when I think about Saban a decade ago (complete and utter hatred and distrust of offense and the forward pass) it shows that the best coaches (no matter their philosophies/preferences/schemes) adapt with the times. He got a mobile QB. He has a passing game. The great ones evolve. Shitty coaches lie about watching tape (like McCarthy did to Jerruh) or refuse to change their scheme—Herman. The great ones change and adapt. And take it seriously.

Maybe not who the fans think should stay but it's a pretty common practice to keep some member(s) from the former staff for the sake continuity. It's rare to see a 100% overhaul when a new coach is hired.

Probably better? Herman is a fucking fraud who isn’t worth a job anywhere in this conference and you reckon Campbell is “probably” better? He’s fucking better and it is beyond a shadow of a doubt.

The question isn't whether Herman is better than Campbell. It is if Urban is better than Campbell. I'll take my chances that the answer is yes.

Maryland has Tua’s brother at QB. I still have ptsd from watching them play. Score now 21-14 Maryland.  But while crab cakes actually sound good right now I am kinda feeling like fried shrimp and homemade hush puppies (have a great recipe). All that aside, Fleck will get Minnesota there. It’s just gonna take some time to build with recruiting. I think he’s legit. But Like most of y’all I want Meyer. Having said that if we had hired a Franklin or Campbell or Fleck or Fickell after Strong was fired and after a real coaching search maybe we are a lot happier fans right now and we are undefeated and still ranked and the season matters a lot more. And a Halloween game is a fun thing to watch.

I think all of the coaches I mentioned are great ones. But you can’t dangle Urban out there and then do a bait a switch with another coach. I’m Urban or Bust too—I just don’t want to count on it. Hope, as many have said, can be paralyzing.

You get to that point playing to win at all times in the game.  The play at 3:46 in this replay of the 2004 Utah vs Pitt Fiesta Bowl shows Urban flexing on Pitt.

21-21. Row that boat. Like I said, Fleck will get Minny there. It’s gonna take time. They don’t have the athletes yet. But he is developing the ones he does have. It’s amazing how developing players is so important to a programs recruiting and on the field success. Like coaching involves more than arrogance and bravado and slick gimmicky shit. Crazy!

I’ll get sucked in again and I am sure you will too.  Hell, I was dumb enough to think bringing in 7 new coaches might do the trick.

Anyone other than Urban, and I will expect more misery, but hope to be wrong.

Ya. Was talking to my brother tonite on the phone regarding the exact same thing you just posted. It’s like being a kid and finding out Santa is real. There are a handful of exceptional coaches out there who are capable of doing what Urban, Dabo, and Saban have done. We can’t afford to fuck this up. But if everything I have read about the Saban snafu is accurate...we would have had yet another chance at the proverbial unicorn and managed to piss it away. Like my brother said though, if Meyer is truly done coaching and never coaches again that’s one thing. If he accepts an offer somewhere else it would be crushing. Soul crushing and the jokes will write themselves. If that happens (meaning we fucked it up and he was interested and he’s not done coaching)—-I don’t know what being lower than the butt of every joke is but that’s what we will fucking be. It’s just hard to process if we do get him—shit going to games—and if for some reason we can’t attend getting better than face value for our tickets or shit having people actually want our tickets. Mind blown. Winning a big 12 championship! The Urban or Bust train has a lot of payout if we are successful but damn I just don’t want to hope that much.

Minnesota down 14-0 to Maryland in the 1st quarter. I assume we can all agree that inability to beat Maryland immediately disqualifies Fleck as a candidate, right?

If games ended halfway through the first quarter, sure. Maybe you watch until say, halftime before you make a post like this first?

Plus, just like the Michigan game they are down soooo many starters (special teams alone) bc of Big 10 covid rules. Not saying they would have beat Michigan but honestly they were missing entire right side of OLine and their kicker, punter and put return specialist. That’s shittay.
