It seems to me that Wisner was attempting to leverage our lack of RB depth in our bowl game in an attempt to get more money.  I mean if he has frank discussions earlier regarding his status, he should have hit the portal three weeks ago.  So it could be that Texas said something like let's see how things go before we talk final NIL numbers, but the more likely scenario is he knew a few names were jumping to the portal in the RB room and was hoping that would make Texas desperate to meet his NIL ask so we had a RB to play in the bowl game.

It would seem equally likely that his agent overplayed his hand and Texas called him on it. If he can go make an extra 100K playing somewhere else, then fine. He is a good player who showed up big against our rivals. He is not irreplaceable.

Has a WR besides Moore left?

He’s not that good, IMO. Watch the games at TCU last year when he got demoted to second team.

I have wanted these guys to get extended carries all season. We’re not losing Bijan here.

Probably not because he isn’t retarded like our fans and knows changes are still in motion.

I remember that hit watching from the stands, too.

Cooper as well

I don't know how after all of these years in the recruiting/transfer threads you can be ignorant of the fact that Cooper (or any high schooler) isn't eligible to suit up - much less play - in a bowl game.  But for an engaging and energetic analysis of the topic may I recommend the football board.  I'm sure you'll find lots of qualified candidates to discuss this from all angles.

Through a ton of scouting I think I've found the missing piece for us for next season

Gerry:

Couple of college coaches (ACC and SEC - not Texas) and their agents think Baugh hits portal.

That is not an OTF report, to be clear.

Just passing along chatter in the industry.,

I hope Meatchicken kills themselves trying to find video of them playing!

Meatchicken is even more-screwed if they have no idea how they run and no idea how they run in this offense.  Lulz.

Nothing about any of this is unique to Texas. I read plenty of other fan boards. We’re one of least idiotic and least myopic of any of them. No doubt this site, and even this thread, has plenty of stupid, but its overall behavior isn’t anywhere near a lot of the clowntowns out there.

I don't know if I can agree with this on a day where numerous idiots in this literal thread thought early enrollees could play in the bowl game

Maybe the rules should be changed so that they can play in the bowl game. That would be wild!

If I recall he also didn’t show up to leave with team during this. Complete shit way to enter the portal.

This!!!  This is my issue.  Name your price, no problem, Texas either pays or it doesn’t.  But going through all of the bowl practices as RB1, only to no show your team is chickenshit, plain and simple.  Told no one, just no showed…f*** that.  You can kiss your Longhorn Legend status goodbye.

After a bunch of expensive mediocrities freed up a boatload of money for portal acquisitions? He should be thrilled we're clearly going for broke for his last year.

I would be very interested in how teams are adjusting to scouting. Before you only had to scout high school and turn on tape if a transfer was interested. Now, I assume, you are scouting every NCAA team in the country and high school too. The position of gm is becoming as important if not more than NFL gms. Mixing high school recruits with transfers and then the money aspect, families, really interested to see the correct “build” when a school really pulls ahead. Sign me up for a scout, I can tell you Tunmise is not going to work here.

Baugh is going to get injured in Week 2 rendering the $2M NIL payment worthless

Skimmed 6 pages of this thread and the only legit news was Wisner leaving and NcDonald staying.

Would be nice this close to the portal opening to have the thread locked until actual news about Texas and the portal hits.

You should be compensated for having to skim six whole pages on a football message board in December and only receiving two pieces of news. Really sorry this happened to you.

2 million paid in 12 game payments. Must play to receive.

Any Texas fan that says they don’t like this version of CFB has lost their mind. This version is the only reason we became relevant again. Our boosters and administration were not going to play the bag game. We were getting left behind.

I wouldn’t like it if the nfl was all 1 year contracts with no cap either.   The  amount of annual roster changeover is massive, and it was much more than the nfl to begin with due to eligibility rules. System needs some polishing.

or I guess we can treat it like any other right to work employees who leave at any time for what they feel is a better opportunity, or get fired at any time for any reason.  That’s generally not how people like their sports organized though, or some league somewhere in the world would operate as such.

Again, if you think the dearth of talent in the Oline, RB, and WR rooms is expected in his 4th season, then you are lying to yourself. Yes changes are coming, but I don't think anyone expected that we would have this much dead weight on the roster and have to recruit the hell out of the portal.

Do you actually think Texas would be so concerned with playing an experienced RB for the Cheez It Bowl that they would be leveraged into panicking and paying more for Wisner so he could play in the bowl game?

If so, I can assure you that is not the case.

Jelani coming back, which is awesome news and huge for next year, is worth wading through six pages of dreck on this accursed website. Actually, I'd say that is above par value for time spent here.

I mean, I agree that Wisner is replaceable, but there is absolutely no reason to cherry pick "against non-rivals". "If you take out all of his best performances against the teams we hate the most, he wasn't good" is a dumbass sentiment.

I do think an “agent” would be dumb enough to think this would be a great idea that would totally work.

Have any of you that regret any of our guys going into the portal ever managed people? It feels like you haven’t.

The biggest mistake, by far, I’ve ever made in my career managing ~100 people is letting sentiment get in the way and trying to work around and scaffold Rube Goldberg machines to try to make substandard people as productive as I need or want them to be, rather than have honest and difficult conversations and just do the things that need to be done to make the organization better.

There is a reason that sociopaths like Meyer and Saban have so much success playing checkers, while most human beings do stupid stuff like pay Tre or LL and try to (usually unsuccessfully) mitigate their weaknesses.

Maybe Sark got some balls and is acting ruthless and they got shoved out the door, or maybe he just got lucky that in resetting their actual market value nature took its course, but we will be so much better if this continues to happen as a college football have. We have resource advantages over almost everyone. If we combine that with ruthlessly accurate decision making we won’t fail to succeed.

My shitty management instincts always got in the way of me making anything I had control over excellent. Instead, I had enough positive traits I could improve where I was at bc I have some inherent talent for big picture strategy and goal setting and direction, but it wasn’t like I was great at anything I did because of these failings.

I didn’t start having lots of success in my career until I started managing nobody under me (not even managing myself) and just doing what I was good at. Then, I ended up in the top 100 nationally in my career.

Texas is absolutely capable of squandering all our financial and resource advantages. It looks like we won’t. Celebrate. And I will say this if a certain WR moves on as well.

All hail creative destruction.

Dear LinkedIn

I mean, I think as fans of we had to nominate someone from this board to be a GM we’d want it to be CTJ and that would be bc he’s at least a borderline sociopath, right?

Anyone analytical that can rip the bandaid off. Every bit of attrition we’ve seen so far is ripping the band aid off and we will be better absolutely everywhere we’ve seen attrition as compared to if we decided to “pay them what they want”. DC is also a huge step that direction. I thought Sark could succeed bc he’s got a lot he does well and Texas has a lot of advantages. I never dreamed he’d make this kind of turn as a GM type 5 years in. It’s pretty exiting

Imagine leaving Texas for BYU? LL was a decent LB. He made a few plays. Did he jump off the stat sheet? Did he make game changing plays? Was he All SEC? He has moved on and I wish him the best in the Big XII where he will probably be a star. He was never going to be that guy for us

Was Wisner that dude? Where was he against Ohio State last season? What about this season? I will always appreciate Tre for his big games against OU and A&M. Is he worth what he wants? No. I wish him well

People come and people go. The better your organization is, the higher the standards. Some players think they are bigger than the team and they aren’t.

I for one like the ruthless nature of sitting down and letting players leave. Once they started getting paid, they became pros. If their feelings get hurt by that, go work as a greeter at a Walmart or join the chess team. You have to improve. If you can’t meet the standards and what it takes, there’s the door.
