Meh

Mediocre. I was born, raised and still live in Austin. Never loved it. Same with Hut's. My experience with Hut's spans from 85'-03' and it was never great.  Sandy's is much better than Hut's as is Dan's.  Threadgill's was mediocre, too. Maybe I missed Threadgill's heyday but it was meh in 2002.

Hut's. Was that that place with all the crap on the walls?

Raw Deal, my parents used to get shitfaced there.

Raw Deal was on East 6th.  Another Raw Deal was on West 6th in the space that eventually became Z'Tejas.

When I lived in NorCal I went to Vegas about once a month.  Z’Tejas was a regular stop as it was one of the few joints that had flavors like I craved. My coworkers were clueless.

Z tejas is overpriced dog shit. Good riddance

Can be annoying at times(who isn’t?)but that’s a bit harsh on a fellow Surly poster.

I'm absolutely nobody's thread police, but for those who want to reminisce about long lost Austin joints (and recent ones) there's a pretty lengthy thread for it below.  Z Tejas is the most recent entry there, of course.

Well, I had a "sort of " blind date with my future wife at the Rim Location.  Thanks I guess

On the first date? No wonder you married her.

I was in Austin from 84-91 and continued to inhabit regularly for a few years thereafter, returning for football games etc.

ZTejas never was a big fave, having showed up at the end of my "era" there.  I considered it kind of "nouveau" and frou-frou.

I find it funny that it's mentioned in the same breath as Katz's, Hut's, or Threadgills.   With ya on Threadgills, but quite enjoyed Hut's.

First time I remember going to ZTejas was with my now wife.  She ordered some fancified mac & cheese that costs 4x what mac & cheese should cost.  I've disliked the place ever since.

Got dragged to ZTejas plenty back in the day.  Eventually, discovered the navajo taco on the menu.  It was pretty good, and was my go-to order every time after that.

Wasn't anything I was dying for and demanding to go to ZTejas to get, but I was always perfectly happy eating one.  That said....can't remember the last time I went to a ZTejas, and haven't missed it.

They had a stuffed pork tenderloin entree that I ate the shit out of when I was a kid 30+ years ago. The original on W 6th was in our regular rotation for Sunday evening dinner.

Yup that was my usual go-to.  Jack Allen's Kitchen has basically the same dish.
