Well County Line and Salt Lick off 2222 were much much better in the 80s than what they became 40 years later. And I can't remember a lot of great brisket around the entire state back then. I think Iron Works might have been around back then and it was much better in its beginning. Stiles Switch opened in 2012 and Franklins was 2009. Kreuz Market started selling barbecue brisket in the 60s I believe and that wasn't a bad drive in the 80s and 90s.

that shit hole on the other side of sixth was pretty good brisket

CFB is wide open this year.

Lots high potential teams

Texas Offense needs to get it together or it could be a very rough year .

LSU expectedly failed today with a great defense .

Hopefully sark and arch have figured it out this week

How exactly would that be beneficial?

LLMs are just fancy search engines that are prone to hallucinations. They don't think up anything new. They just aggregate existing information and parse into relevant data based on keyword input.

Maybe that's why offenses have really sucked to start the year in college and the NFL.

they can pick and sort efficiently which is what a coach does on game day

A Sams chopped brisket sandwich was pretty damn good at 2am on a Friday night.

Yeah but where is their go to spot for eatery?

Ty Simpson looks an awful lot like a better Sayin to me.

I am as happy and anyone else that we didn't lose this weekend. But I am suffering from a crisis of faith in Sark. I am starting to think he's Mack 2.0. I don't see killer instinct, I don't see Sark doing the ruthless things that have to be done to win. I think he is making tactical corrections where strategic decisions are necessary, for example his predictable and terrible play calls. I hope and pray I will be proven wrong.

I hope like hell he's Mack 2.0, for one very obvious reason.

There's a LOT of bad college football going on out there.

That reminds me of the time 25 years ago when I was serving on a federal jury in the late Judge Sam Spark’s court.
During a recess he walked into the jury room to chat with us while the opposing legal teams were out in the court trying to reach a settlement.
Judge Sam draw a big laugh from all of us jurors when he quipped, “A lot of bad lawyering is going on in there”.
His baliff Billy was pretty funny too before he got fired.
Too bad both have passed on now.

Bama looked like shit against FSU and then comes and looks like a championship contender against UGA.  LSU was elite after Clemson and then struggles to put up 20 points against Florida and Ole Miss.   Penn State and Oregon didn’t look any better than us in our game in week 1.   College football is wide fucking open.  We have the defense and special teams to compete in every game.  Our offense HAS to come together.  Given that we’ve played the last few weeks missing most of our veteran starters, a base vanilla playbook, a young offense that needs some games to gel, it’s not a stretch to think that this offense is going to improve drastically come Florida and should improve week to week.  While UF and ou can’t get their shit together on offense, they both have VERY good defenses.  If we put up 24-30 in those games, that will be a very good sign that the offense is improving.

Alabama and Georgia both looked like really good teams. That was an elite level game worthy of the hype.

Penn State Oregon was also pretty good across the board.

LSU Ole Miss was another elite level game.

If you think any of these teams are bad or looked pedestrian you don't really know what's going on in college football in general.

Georgia tech wake forest? That was some pedestrian shit. Still a fun game, but those teams both get blown the fuck out by any of the 6 teams I just mentioned.

Auburn TAMU? Both of those teams looked so fucking ass.

Some of you really just can't assess what's going on or what the difference in levels of competition is?

One thing I've noticed - refs really go out of their way to help players not fuck up coin tosses. Dante Moore had no idea what he wanted.

I'm glad it happened to us because it adds to the lol legend of Coach Strong, but that ref must have been a prick.

Yeah, but it always looks wide open at the end of September.  And it's not any more wide open than last year when the championship game was #7 vs #8.

Also, Ole Miss is really good.  Them giving LSU a hell of game does not say anything bad about LSU.  And Penn State and Oregon not looking any better than we did against Ohio State doesn't say anything bad about them, or us, either.  For all the hand-wringing on this site, we are absolutely one of the 8-ish teams that can win the whole thing.

I was always partial to going there at like 9am on Sunday morning after my raver ass got done partying through the night on Saturday. Proceed directly from some warehouse or cow pasture to the eastside to pick up some brisket and mutton and maybe a 40. Good memories.

I didn't see much of Bama Georgia outside of highlights, but Oregon looks to me to be the best team right now. Dante Moore is far better than I thought he would be, and their defense is salty. The Auburn TAMU game was so laughably bad, I can't wait for Liucci to bathe in the glory of this victory all week and work the fanbase up into believing this is a playoff team. Jackson Arnold is such a washout of a QB.

I don’t really believe the save it for the playoffs schtick as a general rule but last year tOSU mixed it up right after the Michigan loss and first game in the playoffs and won. I don’t recall what it was they did but I think it was on offense. All these coaches are copycats, wouldn’t surprise me at all if sark has he usual new plays for the season but he’s held them all back. Shit he used to do the trickery all season long and we are seeing none of it. Arch need to cleanse the yips out for sure and keep his part going the right direction, but I do wonder - unlike the save it for OU Mack refrain from years gone by - if there really is some 16 game season planning going on over there.

Oregon has a really good defense that is fast and swarms.

Learned:

1. Clemson is not good. Maybe the worst of the preseason rankings. How did so many people get this wrong, myself included

2. LSU moving up on the back of Clemson win was bad. That offense has struggled all year

3. Things can change, but that Georgia defense isn’t looking like a Georgia defense. They are really struggling to get any pressure on the QB. Not sure if secondary is on par or that is result of the lack of pressure

4. Miss State is really improved. Just took Tenn to OT. Offense looks solid.

5. Offenses look behind defenses in general.

Given their body of work, LSU is just not a good offense. Nuss should not have returned. That said, Kiffin has his best team in his Ole Miss tenure.

Bama is going to be a problem. DeBoer is a fantastic coach. I was hoping the Finebaum army of rednecks would run him out of town before he got it going.

The only thing similar to Mack and Sark is that Duane Akina is coaching in the secondary.

Where did I say those weren’t good teams?  I said there are no elite teams this year.  You call Bama elite yet their defense looked looser than south Austin’s non 2 weeks ago.  UGA struggled to beat a very average Tenn team.  Those teams have weaknesses just like us and are very beatable.

There are no gimme wins when Connor Stroh and Cole Hutson are your starting interior OL. Couple that with consistent holding and false start penalties from Baker and Campbell and Arch being unable to hit wide open receivers 5 yards away and it's a recipe for disaster.

True, but I've gotta believe we have technology that can assess things like trajectory and velocity on kicks. Similar to a golf monitor. Surely, Banks looked into those metrics too. Right?

He looked at the metrics he had in the previous kicker and said, "fuck it, his name is Shipley. That will get me a pass if it doesn't work out. Can't be worse."

Gibson should be RB3.  He's the toughest to bring down out of all of our running backs.

He *should* hold on to the ball.

And I agree, aside from fumbles, he could be a starter.

Matt's is the Austin's equivalent of Joe T. Garcia's.

People tell visitors they MUST eat there,  then will admit it is average food at best.

I would also nominate Earl Abel's in San Antonio and the Varsity in Atlanta as places "HAD" to take me and then they ending up telling me after, "I know the food isn't great, but you just have to eat there".

No you fucking don't.

You go to Matt’s on a weekend night because it’s just dripping with hot ass. Foods fine, whatever. The scenery is elite.

I feel like you haven’t watched much CFB this year. Or last year. This Bama team had their pants pulled down and were buttfucked in public against FSU. They were fucking bullied all game in the trenches.

Now Bama is elite? Georgia has how many sacks this year from their DL?

You’re looking at helmets and reacting. Georgia does not have a great defense this year and they’re struggling getting pressure.  Bama always looks like this against Georgia. They looked like this against Georgia last year and jumped to #1 in the rankings. They also lost 4 games, badly. That’s on par for that team and that personnel this season.

We don't need much from this offense to be a playoff caliber team. Just basic competency. With an actual semi-productive offense, somewhere around last year, we can win the national championship.

To reinforce your point, I swear that I’d heard an announcer yesterday say bama had won 10 of the last 11 against GA. It seemed insane, so I looked it up. Other than the win in the national title game, GA hasn’t beat bama since 2007.

Most of the hang wringing comes from the fact that we haven’t seen this team play a complete game yet or know what we are capable of.  Yeah we had some cupcakes but it wasn’t with our roster healthy.

Florida will be our first real test after tOSU, but I don't expect much from their offense with or without Lagway.
