Which year would you choose?

The only criteria is no re-releases allowed.

For me, it's 1983. I know some will say 1985 or 1986 or 1994 but they are wrong. I get 1 of the original trilogy Star Wars, RotJ, which I have seen over 500 times. I get Vacation, which was probably my favorite comedy growing up. I get A Christmas Story for the winter months and I get my drama and fantasy fixes with The Outsiders and Krull. There are other years with more quality movies. I know this. But I chose 1983 because I know Id watch the hell out of those movies and not just have a trophy year of movies that I may watch a few times over the years so I can brag about how cool I am for choosing 1986.

Out of curiosity, how long has it been since you've watched Krull?

It doesn't hold up well. Your memories are better than a re-watch...

I dunno man. I'm gonna end up watching some of these movies over and over.

1994 is really hard to argue against. Forest Gump, Shawshank, The Professional, Clerks, Pulp Fiction, NBK, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber and The Crow is a really great, broad selection that I've already gotten a lot of mileage out of prior.

1971 has a lot to offer

1999 is selected by a lot of people. Fight Club, The Matrix, American Beauty, The Green Mile, Being John Malkovich, Man on the Moom, Office Space, Boone Dock Saints, Galaxy Quest, Phantom Menance, Austin Powers and Bicentennial Man are all very re-watchable.

I think I'm torn between 1994 and 1999.

There are some very solid 2000s years.

2007: There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men, Superbad, Ratatouille, Zodiac, American Gangster, Into The Wild, Hot Fuzz, Shooter, Michael Clayton, Juno, 3:10 to Yuma, Hot Rod and a bunch of other very watchable shit

2008: The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Tropic Thunder, Taken, Wall E, Gran Torino, Pineapple Express, Step Brothers, Benjamin Button, Burn After Reading, Kung Fu Panda, In Bruges, The Hurt Locker, Slumdog Millionaire, Forgetting Sarah Marshall

They were fucking cooking there for a couple years.

You can go here and filter by date range and then sort by popularity.

the year that Crash won the oscars for best movie

Keep in mind the Oscars uses a different calendar but you could also do "best Oscars year" - the lists just wind up being slightly different.

Looked up 75 for grins since I knew jaws and one flew over the cuckoos nest. It doesn’t have the same volume as some others posted but in addition to those two are Monty python and the holy grail, dog day afternoon, ilsa she wolf of the ss, death race 2000, rollerball, rooster coburn, mechagodzilla.  And also Emanuelle II and Black Emanuelle for THOSE kind of nights.

pretty eclectic group.

Also randomly looked at 1980:

airplane!, The shining, Empire strikes back,  blues brothers, raging bull, caddyshack, Superman 2, the changeling, Friday the 13th, ordinary people, the fog, the final countdown, used cars, any which way you can, and some others.

I think I’d be happy with most years. Probably says more about my standards than it does about the consistency of moviemaking.

Probably late 80s was the last time o watched it but it was pretty awesome and I know I watched it a bunch growing up. The cyclops dude holding the door knowing is death is coming. And the scene in the swamp and fog where the old man is one of the bad guys and grabs the dudes neck with his demon fingers. Those parts stick out to me.  I'm sure it will still be good now

I’d choose 2026 so I can see something new.

I’m not a big fan of watching movies over and over. There is probably no movie I’ve seen more than 5 times and probably less than a dozen that I’ve seen twice.

I’ll catch Project Hail Mary and whatever else comes out next year while you guys reminisce.

Those 1999 movies are stinkers.

See, I could rewatch the Matrix a thousand times. Great rewatchable movie. The others, while they may be good, I'd have little desire to see them but maybe 1 time. So 1999 might have just 1 movie I'd put down on my list if I were ranking these years.

Did somebody say that a limited rotation of movies for the rest of his life would include Krull?

I mean . . . . Krull?

I brought up Krull on the recruiting thread in regards to Kreul about 2 days ago.

Krull is umm.. a cult classic but it's not um... great.

Well shit.  I pretty much only watch movies from 1989 as it is.

https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature&release_date=1989-01-01,1989-12-31

Heathers, Drug Store Cowboy, Say Anything, War of the Roses and Sex, Lies, Video Tape are some great sleepers from 1989.

"Greetings and Salutations"

I used that line for the better part of a decade.

1939.  I enjoy old movies.

Gone with the Wind, It's a Wonderful Life, Stagecoach, Mister Smith Goes to Washington, The Wizard of Oz, Of Mice and Men, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Allegheny Uprising, Another Thin Man, Babes in Arms, Beau Geste, Confessions of a Nazi Spy, Dark Victory, Dodge City, Drums Along the Mohawk, Each Dawn I Die, Espionage Agent, Gunga Din, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Jesse James, King of the Underworld, Stanley and Livingstone, The Three Musketeers, Union Pacific, Wuthering Heights, Young Mister Lincoln

Full of crime, drama, westerns, comedy and tons of male and female legends from Hollywood's Golden Era.
