Live updates: Trump puts Washington police under federal control, National Guard to be deployed | Reuters

I assume this is newsworthy and I won't be banned for posting this, hopefully. All being done under the premise of "out of control crime" in a city that hit a 30 year low in violent crime in January.

As usual, facts don’t matter. Violent crime is down everywhere but they still act like it’s a violent hellhole where you will die if you enter the city limits

I haven't been to downtown DC in a bit, but I'm sure our nation's capital and one of the biggest tourist destinations is an apocalyptic hellscape. Totally necessary.

I was there for spring break 2024 and it was great. It was one of the cleanest downtowns of any big city I've been too. I like how they just say were gonna "remove the homeless." Okay, where are you putting them? Dumping them in Silver Springs? Dunking them into the Potomac? It never ceases to amaze me how they never discuss policy, just "we're gonna eliminate crime, yee haw!!"

Can confirm as I was there last summer. Look at the wreckage and human suffering. God help us !!!

Only time I've ever been there was on a HS trip so it's been a while. I remember buying some Foakleys from a dude on the street and the museums being really cool.

I do have a couple friends that are longtime residents, though (one worked as a staffer in the Obama white house) and they're just completely bewildered.

I seriously considered moving to DC a few years ago after spending some time there regularly for work. Just more proof that there really isn't anywhere to escape this absolute horseshit.

How did you deal with this huge crowds?

I found the nearest ICE officer and had him spray the area in non lethal fire and tear gas. Praise Christ.

22 year District resident checking in.

I am very curious what he's going to do with the homeless.  There are a lot of them and there always have been, especially if you know where to look.  If he moves them somewhere, my guess is  a tent city somewhere in Manassas, perhaps one of the old battlefields.

For the record, crime is much, much lower that when I moved here.  There was a spike in the last couple of years with some carjackings and some other bullshit, but for the most part, this a much safer city than it was when I moved here in 2003 and my opinion is this is a big power grab.  I guess we will see what happens.

To be fair to the simulation, nobody had Trump invading the South with the homeless. In good news those picknickers fleeing back north after the battle will get back quicker in CyberTrucks than they did via horse and carriage....probably.

I'm sure all the homeless rounded up will get the healthcare, dependency treatment, and/or mental health treatment they need in the gulags they get shipped off to against their will even though they're United States citizens. This was America.

As long as DC is the seat of our government, crime there will always be high. Need to get rid of the politicians to really make a dent.

LA was a test run, this is the first federal occupation and will serve as the road map for future cleansing

Martin Niemoller said it best

Als die Nazis die Kommunisten holten,
habe ich geschwiegen; ich war ja kein Kommunist.

Als sie die Gewerkschafter holten, habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Gewerkschafter.

Als sie die Sozialdemokraten einsperrten, habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Sozialdemokrat.

Als sie die Juden einsperrten, habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Jude.

Als sie mich holten, gab es keinen mehr, der protestieren konnte.

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I kept quiet; I wasn't a communist.

When they came for the trade unionists, I kept quiet;
I wasn't a trade unionist.

When they locked up the social democrats, I kept quiet;
I wasn't a social democrat.

When they locked up the Jews, I kept quiet;
I wasn't a Jew.

When they came for me, there was no one left to protest.

Don't you remember?  Greg Abbott promised to "eliminate rape."  And it was done, just like that.  There's no more rape in Texas!

The fucking delusional fantasyland shit that drives our policies is maddening.

I remember when conservatives were against big government control. Good times.

Now, conservatives are gimps for trump.

This is textbook despotism, find a way to criticize and demonize those who don't support you.

Rino, little Marco, stupid everyone, sleepy Joe, etc and they either fall in line or they are removed from power

Next week with Putin should be interesting, considering today President Huff & Puff basically agreed to allow Russia to keep most of the occupied territory

Conservatives have been lying their asses off about crime, especially in blue states/cities, for at least a decade.

Crime tends to follow social unrest.  COVID, therefore, provoked a spike in crime, particularly in urban areas, but it was kind of a one-off thing.

Careful, you're liable to catch a ban around these parts for saying such unkind facts. You could upset a very fine member of the community with such toxic behavior
