I guess I do. Great turnout in Round Rock. Had a couple pro-Gaza folks try to disrupt, but he stayed on message and delivered the speech we've come to expect.

Already raised $1 million on the first day.

I will say the energy is going to need to get turned way up. But then again he's not the "big energy" guy.20250909_190709.jpg

I'm really interested in this race.  He's a relatively fucking young tictok guy that goes on all the podcasts, etc.  It's time to find out  if the younger folks will stop jacking off and playing video games long enough to to get to the polls.  If so, he could be the roadmap that Dems use nationally.

I'm skeptical, but I'd love to be wrong.

at this point, if you're not "pro Gaza", you can go fuck your own face.  Fucking genocide is happening there.  I hope somebody nukes Israel.   Or, stabs Bibi up the asshole with a dull knife until he dies.
Fair, but yelling incoherently in front of a speaker, screaming assault, then running around like Tanner in The Bad News Bears is not the way to be taken seriously.

EDIT... I don't know Talarico's feelings on Gaza. I suspect we can see how he voted on the pro-Israel laws Abbott pushed through a while back.

I was texting with some friends who live in Colorado this afternoon about the senate race. Assuming Talarico beats Allsnooze in the primary, we have a race between:

Eighth generation Texan, former educator, seminary graduate, white boy nextdoor

Vs

Texas import, serial adulterer, criminal who does favors for wealthy donors, lazy eye

And guess which one runs away with the race in November 2026?

This is my fear. Talarico is positioning himself as the candidate of decency... and he's not wrong.

But if he loses... especially if he loses to Paxton. It means Texas is a compete lost cause.

Lost cause, waste of time. Texas is already gone. Like red dawn level gone only without the Cuban paratroopers.

As a Texan, we need to collectively stop wasting our time and money on these races.   And I really like Talarico.

This is probably our best chance to win a statewide race.  While Talarico isn't very loud, he's got a solid case and he's got his belly full of the billionaires.  He's got morals and he's an elementary teacher by trade, so he does know how to speak the language of the under-educated.

Harry Potter or Talarico?

I think if a Democrat has a chance in Texas any time in the foreseeable future, it's Talarico in 2026. He's as good a candidate as we're ever going to have and will be going against slimeball Paxton in a climate where Republicans are deeply unpopular.

I don’t disagree, and I like him very much. But he’s still getting his ass kicked.

Beto was the best chance to unseat any R in the state for senate. We are a lost cause. I’ll still vote of course. But no Dem can win in Texas now.

Best chance until that fucking AR15 thing. Then he was dead in the water. I believe Talarico is by far a better candidate than Beto.  Beto was just louder.

Are they, though?

If Vegas put a spread on this, it would be something like Paxton -10.5%.

Around 2012, I thought Texas would be blue by this point.  Now, I don't think it'll happen in my lifetime.

I've been on record here as bearish on Talarico and I think this is a little hyperbolic.  He scratches the itch of mostly secular and loosely Christian liberals and has a lot of the same "why doesn't the working man see it?" energy as Elizabeth Warren.

A better candidate is going to emerge at some point (not necessarily this election cycle) and it'll be because he/she is fun and has an intuitive skill at grabbing attention.

On the bright side, if he is the nominee I bet he outperforms David Alameel.

let's face it, the only ace card the dems can truly play is a celebrity to combat the reality TV mush for brains in the electorate. mcconaughey is probably it for the texas dems if he were to ever want it. other than that, yeah no there is no great dem candidate or strategy. there just isn't.

waaaaaaaaaay to many POC and queer birds on that stage to take texas back from the reds flocking from out of state.  native texans probably say sure but that's not the electorate anymore. ain't happening.

Jesus Christ himself could be reincarnated to run against the GQP in Texas and get his ass kicked by 10%. I honestly don't think it matters who the dems run, as nobody on a democratic ticket can do anything to win it. The only path forward will be the GQP actively and enthusiastically fucking over Texans so badly that they lose the votes. And things will have to get a hell of a lot worse, and probably for another 20 years, before thats a reality.

Its been since the early 90's that Texas dems have won a statewide election of significance, and Richards wouldn't have won that without ole Claytie shoving his foot up his own ass with that "lay back and enjoy it" comment. And things are now so much worse. William's comments today would probably be good for a 10% boost.

I like Talarico and am happy he’s running, but I doubt it will be very close. He has a good background and he speaks a good message on social media, but Texas voters aren’t interested in things like facts and campaign promises.

Texas voters care about the R next to the name because that’s a sign the candidate loves Jesus and will fight against abortion and LGBTQ rights. It doesn’t matter if that R candidate cheats on his wife and uses taxpayer money to cover it up, or if the opposing D candidate actually went to seminary, because Texans are too simplistic to even consider those basic truths.

As a founding member of this board's James Talarico fan club, this is the kind of race I was hoping he'd avoid. An almost certain L here will put him on the list of "popular with democrats but unelectable state-wide"  candidates with Beto and Wendy Davis. I was hoping the party would find a congressional district for him, but with the new maps they're already going to have more qualified candidates than seats.

Devil’s Advocate-Talarico (or candidate X) may need the experience and network building opportunity of running in a higher profile race in order to have a better chance of winning something less high profile (Texas AG or comptroller or Ag Commissioner).

I do think the future of the party in the state is running younger candidates without the imprimatur of Ivy League education that veil themselves in being business friendly.

I think the only way it could be close is if Rogan continues to like him. His blind followers would turn out for anyone he gets behind. He really likes him so far.

HOWEVER…if this were to somehow play out, I have no doubt that a significant group of democrats voters would not turn out to vote for him simply because he has to support of someone they dislike/hate.

My only active political discussions on 2025 have been with Gen Z dems and my only message is “even if you disagree with a LOT of a democrat candidate’s policies and idea on various issues. You just HAVE to vote for and donate to them anyway.

Go ahead and be a single issue voter if you want, but that issue should be “not GOP gets your vote.”

Some of them get it, but not nearly enough, IMO.

That’s old school thinking and not learning the lessons from the victors.

You don’t make friends with Rogan, you antagonize him relentlessly.  You can be friendly with Theo Vonn and others in that same demographic group, but if you want clout you need a villain.
