Absolutely a great thing that these very fine people are deciding who gets higher education and who doesn't based on their lawful speech

Can’t read everything being published right now,  but from what I did see- does it seem like Kirk was just a target of opportunity?  In that the guy has gotten to the “too much evil” point and then sees that Charlie just happens to be showing up nearby soon, so he’s the one.

Could have just as easily been someone else or nobody if Kirk wasn’t scheduled at UVU?

My gestalt take on everything we’ve seen so far is that, like you said earlier, he was very troubled, but not delusional/psychopathic. He’s a smart kid but has failed to launch. The fact that he is in a romantic relationship with a biological male furry that is transitioning to female probably means he’s a closeted gay man and feels resentful of the strict religious/conservative culture in Utah. He’s aimless, without purpose, and spends most of his time in online communities that are not explicitly political, but to the extent politics are discussed everyone holds the opinions of the average Bluesky or CR poster and Republicans are considered fascists.

When he hears Charlie Kirk is coming to his university he gets the idea into his head that he has the chance for meaning in his life, to slay a dragon that he perceives as a danger to his lover and who is universally reviled in the online circles he frequents. He sees a chance to “stop the hatred” not understanding the second order effects he is going to unleash on the country and those that he loves.

I haven’t seen any evidence that there was a larger conspiracy or others that plotted with him, or that he was part of Antifa or the DSA, even if he may have agreed with some or many of their positions if he ever thought them through.

Seems they usually are.  And remember, for every one of these types who actually pulls something off....there are a shitload more that get caught beforehand, chicken out at the last minute, or just try and fail.  Because the Occam's Razor of this timeline is that when shit like this happens, it's never a complex, well-planned conspiracy ("it's a professional hit, by a well-trained team").  No.  It is pretty much always exactly what we have here, and have had going back to (and past) Oswald: a single fucking nutbar doing nutbar shit.

I agree with all of this, except the nutbar part. Oswald was a communist who assassinated a Cold Warrior President, not as a Soviet agent, but driven by his ideology and own loser-in-life status. Tyler Robinson seems very similar in his motivations. While we might consider anyone who commits a political assassination of their own plan (that isn’t Carlos the Jackal) to be crazy by definition, neither was incapable of understanding what they were doing like a Jared Loughner or John Hinckley.   I think they both had delusions of grandeur that they were serving a larger cause, but not that they were hearing voices telling them they were fighting demons like a paranoid schizophrenic.

I imagine all this does is cause the disaffected ones that we definitely need to monitor on some level—all it will cause them to do is go further underground. Leave less of an online trail. I know I kid about cameras but they are a fucking game changer for true crime and convicting the guilty. CCTV for all of its scary big brother ness catches everything. And it has no bias and most is stored in the cloud. I do wonder what role AI will play. Will someone fake a video or create a good one to show something that didn’t happen? We know it likely will. But for right now CCTV has to be the biggest thorn in any defense attorney’s side. Caught on camera. Fucked.

Strong disagree here based on what’s been said about his online presence.

and though I’m just now learning about this maxx whatevering- it is obviously very different from a trans person transitioning and more akin to cosplay (or prison bitch),if that’s not too crude a comparison.  And apparently it’s a thing in those groups, seperate and apart from lgbqt with their own shared political groupthink.

I am certainly using "nutbar" in the broader sense.  Not hearing voices and shit, but broken-brained, having gone down at least one (probably multiple) rabbit hole, and really fucking mentally lost.  Delusional is surely a good word to describe at least a part of where these types are coming from. And the "loser-in-life" status as well -- anger at that, and/or wanting to do something important/make a big splash, often plays a role.

The El Paso shooter?  Loser: "According to his LinkedIn page, Crusius described himself as not “really motivated to do anything more than what’s necessary to get by” and that he spent most of his day on the computer.* According to reports, Crusius was unemployed and recently moved out of his grandparents’ house at the time of the shooting."

Buffalo shooter?  Loser: "Former classmates of Gendron who were interviewed by The New York Times claimed that Gendron was quiet, had rarely attended in-person classes, and exhibited a range of idiosyncratic behaviors, including wearing a hazmat suit to class."

These types are susceptible to WHATEVER infrastructure they find themselves in.  In the present case, it seems that infrastructure is even weirder than usual.

So the old guy that got snagged initially apparently admitted that he was running a distraction for the shooter, and turns out he had child porn on his phone, so he's getting rung up for that. What a world.

Oh, it’s not a joke. I’m sick of people saying poking fun at these lifestyles. Someone earlier said “I’m just a normie from Amarillo”.  Someone else called them “nut bars”. As if being transgender, furry, tansmaxx, a gopher, etc…. is somehow not normal! There is nothing abnormal about purring amongst your best friends, drinking beers from a dog bowl, and wearing cat ears!

If people are writing: kids spend their time in a reality I wasn't even aware existed, then we need to make this more mainstream. Children’s books are a good start.  So no, it wasn't a joke.

While Zinn was at the hospital, an FBI Agent and an Agent from the Utah State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) met with Zinn who agreed to speak with them concerning the matter. Zinn admitted that he had yelled that he was the shooter to allow the actual suspect to flee and to hinder Law Enforcement. During the interview, the Agents asked to look at Zinn’s phone and Zinn agreed to let them. Zinn told the Agents that he uses his phone to view and abuse Child Sex Abuse Material and there may be some images on his phone. Those Agents did see several images on the phone of prepubescent girls scantily dressed.

Yes, I saw that as well. Apparently he would frequently show up at various events, not all political in nature, create a problem and get arrested or removed.

Yeah, just makes me think he wanted to make a scene after the shooting. I guess we'll see if there's more to it.

Side note, it sucks there are so many mentally ill people known by police that are just caught and released without any further thought or care.

Seems the whole world is revolving around sexual deviancy these days.  Child porn, Epstein sex trafficking, furries, trans max ( sounds like a Marvel sex channel) etc. I miss infrastructure week.

Was there nothing in the charging documents or press conference about the bullet casings? I still think there’s something missing about the online world this guy and his roommate lived in that doesn’t fit cleanly within any common political narrative. Do they even need to prove a clean motive? Seems those texts once authenticated are the slam dunk for conviction.

Dude. America 2025 has more viruses and completely fucked up pop-ups than your dirty uncle's PC picked up from him hitting all of those Albanian porn sites.  A simple unplug-plug in move ain't gonna fix that shit.

The sad part is the use of all of that sexual tension to distract from the fact that we are being robbed blind and having the democratic rug pulled right out from under us.  Cuz bathroom bills and volleyball boys.

Everyone knows we got knocked off the correct temporal plane of space time when the Large Hadron Collider malfunctioned in 2016 because a weasel destroyed a bunch of control components.

well, there you have it. he's bi (an article posted above mentioned it) and was dating/seeing a transitioning trans woman. He was tired of all the hate, so he did a psychotic thing and assassinated Charlie Kirk. I'm sure trans people will be blamed. I'm sure the hate crimes against trans women, especially black and Hispanic trans women will continue to be a non-factor for the right of the political spectrum. I'm afraid, I'll be pretty matter of fact about it.  pretty sure it's close to my time to see myself out.  the rhetoric is going to go to 11 and instead of separate justices - one for Charlie Kirk, and one for trans women who face tremendous challenges and violence, we are only going to get the first. I'm glad about that for Charlie. But I'm terrified and devastated for trans folk. It was a fun ride.

It's okay, Troph.  Add it to the pile.  The rhetoric and dual systems of justice are already okay with it being open season on messicans (El Paso), black people (Buffalo), jews (Pittsburgh), LGBTQ (Colorado Springs), and Democrat politicians (Minnesota).  We'll just keep adding to that.  But....do you notice how THIS is the shooting that has certain folks flipping out about "inflammatory rhetoric" and its connection to violence?  Not when it was people being hunted for -- as expressly stated by the shooter, in most of those cases -- reasons directly quoting that inflammatory rhetoric.  When those murders/mass murders happened....crickets.

We're going to get "justice" here.  We're going to get it good and hard.  But then again, that's largely like we've been getting it already.  The good thing about having a completely broken country is that it's hard to tell when the rubble breaks some more.

Yeah. Mom and dad did the right but very hard thing. The partner did the right thing. What strikes me most is that this kid could have easily gotten away with it. Simple disguise, eg a face mask and a better plan wrt the firearm acquisition and disposal and this dude could have been gone like an enchilada fart in the wind. How the fuck do security details not at least monitor roof tops with open shots in that kind of environment.
