Could this be the craziest coaching carousel of all time?

No way Freshwater leaves Ole Miss. Not a chance with his daughter there. I'm sure UF has much deeper pockets, but he doesn't like to recruit, and he loves the portal. He's got it made at a school that is happy to get to 9 wins, and I believe he's only their second coach to ever get them to 10 wins. Twice. He has it made and has almost zero pressure.

Kentucky will be 0-8 in the conference and that should get Mark Stoops fired but he has a huge buyout so Kentucky might give up trying to field a competitive football team. When Texas plays Kentucky our quarterback will have more turnovers than completions. Drinking is popular in Kentucky because of the football program.

Thank God for volleyball.

That's what Florida thought

The Florida example proves the point. Napier does not get the kind of contract he received in today’s NIL world. It’s better to hire a relatively unproven coordinator type and set up a bigger player budget. The inverse Kentucky.

Lane Kiffin wants to win a NC. I don't think he is any different in that regard with the coaches you'd group him with. If he stays at Ole Miss, it's not because he looked around and thinks he could just cruise there.

The way Kiffin has things rolling at Ole Miss, it's a lateral move.

IMO, Drinkwitz would be a better choice for UF. Younger, innovative offense, likeable. Good fit

I'm not lying when I say mizzou talks like they're a blue blood now and laugh at anyone who thinks he would leave.  I do think they have a little money but that joke of a stadium, complete lack of tradition etc makes me wonder why anyone would consider that a destination gig.

I just don't personally see Freshwater as a fit at Florida, even if he's not leaving Ole Miss yet, anyway. It just seems like a weird fit, culturally speaking. He'll have big check writing dick heads breathing down his back and he'll have a magnifying glass on him at all times. Does he really want that? I get ALL HC's want to win a NC, but not all HC's want that kind of pressure, and they'll expect him to immediately turn things around in 2 years.

More money, more problems.

If Lane left Ole Miss, it’s nothing he couldn’t handle, but it would be a solid week of Finebaum caller diatribes and SEC Rant meltdowns.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

How is it a weird fit? They both are the south. There’s no vast cultural difference between the university of Florida and and the university of Mississippi. It’s not like going from Mississippi to Boston.

You’re also not thinking about one key thing with coaches, especially coaches like Kiffin—pride. Kiffin has a ceiling at Mississippi. He wouldn’t at Florida. And he can win with home grown talent in Florida plus the portal.

I’m not sure why you are taking it personal about Kiffin to Florida.

I could see him wanting a little separation from his daughter, it’s got to be brutal for freshwater to hit the bars wondering if he’s going to wake up with one of her sorority sisters.

UF and a good driver gives him a ton of options within 1.5 hours for  anonymous bar excursions in Jacksonville, Orlando or Tampa.

I believed Joey Freshwater was at home in Oxford until the documentary about how he’s finally at home in Oxford and will never leave cause it saved his life.

Sumbitch is from Norman, so Drinkwitz could be in line for OU if things fall his way. I didn't know Missourians were as delusional as aggy about being a destination gig. They're not for anyone with better options.

I guess it's because Norm Stewart was in Columbia forever, and Gary Pinkel hung around there for 14 years.

Oh, it's not personal. I would love to see him do better than Ole Miss, it's just the Florida thing is he doesn't like to recruit, and they will be banking on that. He's a portal hound, which is fine, but high school recruiting he doesn't seem to be a fan of. But...if he takes the.job, good for him. It just seems weird from a recruiting standpoint, nothing more. I love Freshwater, man. Dude is a legend to me.

You're right, I forgot to add it - pride. He wants to win a NC, and I get it, and honestly, if he would recruit high school like he does the portal, the man may be unstoppable. His mind for offense is off the charts.

If you’ve been to Mississippi then to Florida you would know, there’s a world of difference. Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama are complete desperately poor shit holes compared to Florida and Texas nearby.

This is always the worst argument I’ve ever seen and it’s disproven constantly.

Kiffin would leave Ole Miss for more money. It’s as simple as that. That’s basically the #1 reason humans do anything.

Only data point we need then? Right-o.

I wish you all the luck in the world seeing only what you're looking for. Yes, the numbers are numbers. Same goes for trees and gonads. To be clear, I'm not saying that they're numbers, too.

Solid list. Cignetti and Fran Brown will get a lot of calls. Elko might too but he'll get a Jimbo-ish contract to stay. Fisch is in a good spot so I don't see him leaving.

Hasn't Fisch openly craved the Florida job?

Tell me you're not from the South without telling me.  There is a ton of stark differences from Ole Miss and UF.  For one, Ole Miss attracts mainly rich out of state kids (who never come back to Ole Miss once they leave) and what upper socio-economic demo there is in the MS.  UF is almost all instate kids and its a great academic school, not Texas great , but it's up there.  Ole Miss is not on a par academically.

There is a reason there is a "Florida Man" meme.  Florida other than Jacksonville and the panhandle is not the south.  There are thousands of UF kids from Tampa, Orlando and south FL and those are much more aligned with a northeast mindset than a 'southern' mindset.  Think more Jersey shore than Garden and Gun.  Think more mom and dad moved here from Ohio than Southern Living / 30-a southern.   The factory owner/exec retired to the east coast of Florida ( basically West Palm, Ft Lauderdale, Jupiter etc)   and the factory worker retired to the west coast (basically Venice, Bradenton, Northport, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda).  These types spawned the UF demographic by and large.  The panhandle of FL is Bama , FSU and Auburn country. Jax is UGA country.  IMO FL is not the traditional south.  Florida is Florida, much like Texas is Texas.  If you have never lived in LA, MS, AL, GA, South Carolina, TN, then you think Texas is southern and most likely FL too.

Ole Miss is prim and proper, the Grove, deep souther ties and roots , very little infiltration of anything other than redshirting Ms Amercias.

Arky should throw some coin at Traylor. He’s accomplished what he can at UTSA, has a great rep in Texas, and at 57 he’s got really one shot in him to move to P5. He’d be a good choice to right the ship, maybe groom a successor.

Arkansas tried that same route before with Chad Morris and it was disastrous. Not saying Traylor is Morris, but the similarities probably have them go a different direction.

No talk of Luke Fickell at Wisconsin?  15-15 overall, just lost to Maryland, and the schedule is BRUTAL. They could go 3-9.

I saw a clip where Lane said when he was HC at USC he could walk the campus and nobody knew who he was. That could never happen in SEC country.

He's getting fired for sure.

I had thought that he and Satterfield would both get fired, and Fickell would go back to Cincy, but now it looks like Satterfield is saving his job.

Drinkwitz? (easy ass schedule)

Fisch?

If Pedo tires of Franklin, I could see Campbell to State College.

IMO he's been holding out for Ohio State or Notre Dame (he's from Ohio and his whole family is still there; he's also Catholic) but think he'd take Michigan or Penn State.  All the jobs he's turned down previously were in the south or on the west coast.

I’ve got a HS classmate who lived in Hollywood for years and now lives in TN and loves to go on rants about how the “Deep South” doesn’t align with her political and social views.  And people should listen to her because she’s from Texas and it’s “Deep South” so she knows what she’s talking about.

Yeah.  No.

MS, GA, AL, SC, and TN are Deep South.  Maybe KY but I don’t really consider them Deep South at this point.  Arkansas is mountain hillbillies.

Florida is Florida.   It’s its own creature.

Texas is Texas and is southwest if anything    We were our own republic and don’t fit in with the Gumps and the Bouchets and the rest.

Louisiana is just Louisiana.
