Takes a ton of practice and sound assignment football.  Lot of options no pun intended requiring the QB to be really cerebral and "quick". I dont think that plays in to Arch's skill set.  Arch is more power and not twitchy , plus it requires the OL drive block and sustain the block one on one, we dont really do anything like that with our schemes.  Our go-to is outside zone.  From what ive seen of Coastal Carolina who also runs it, is they have/had more athletic QB's.  Vince ran it.

Yeah I think something like that requires you to practice it in the off season not just implement it on some random week. But what do I know? Very little. I just watch this sport.

Arch can be a fast runner if he wants to. Since the OL is not maintaining a clean pocket, I feel like taking Arch out of the pocket and making the defense have to pick their poison between Arch, the runner, and Niblett just might work. I don't mean this as our go-to play but perhaps sprinkle it in from time to time when we need short yardage for a first down. We don't seem to have a short yardage 3rd down play in our playbook right now.

There was some game in 2010 where we were down like 7-3 at the end of the second quarter. The guys behind me had been screaming at the D and Muschamp all game up to that point. The D gave up a four yard rush or something and one guy yelled out "Get your head out of your ass Muschamp!", and I turned around and said "It's almost halftime and we've given up 60 yards of offense" (or whatever it was). His reply was "Yeah but we're losing". I think these people are just morons.

Yeah, now you’re making me feel bad for flame broiling that other hooplehead’s ballsack with defensive data.

I heard some SEC chucklefuck spout off today about Arch’s mechanics and throwing off his back foot.  That’s so low on the list of Arch’s problems right now.  I forget that so many people are just drooling mongoloids.  Like, we used to need ditch diggers, but soon we won’t. What are we gonna do with these simpletons?

Are you suggesting that Sark should find a way to revert back to his 1996 self and secretly play in Arch's place? I think that would work.

I wonder what he would think/how he would feel if he had to play behind this line?

Calling out the defense for KY is certainly a take.  I'll repost some of a comment I made on the game thread post-game

Football is complementary. You think for one second PK doesn’t know what’s going in with the offensive side of the ball?  He absolutely does, and so he knows the one thing he can’t do is allow the opposition to get quick points in buckets early and bury things before they ever really get started, particularly when we are on the road. So he sets up the defense to prevent that. The expense is that you get a lot of the dink and dunk and underneath stuff that KY got tonight (and Florida got at the beginning of that game, and hell, OU was getting early as well). You then tighten up as the field shrinks, as we generally have and hold them to minimal points for their efforts save Florida.

Setting up a defense vulnerable to tons of big chunk plays and sudden scores would be a fucking disaster for this team.

PK is the one coach who seems to know what the fuck he is trying to do strategically, given the abilities of his unit and the overall team.

You're describing Landry's Flex Defense, which as I recall, took us a long ways back in the day.

I think this needs to be the staple of the offense, to get Arch in motion, by design, and away from a "pocket" that looks more like a jail break. I would think in HS he threw on the run a lot and is more comfortable when he's moving, by choice.

I don’t bet.

Texas opened at -6.5, but is now -7.5.

WTF?

Mississippi State barely lost to Florida on the road and probably should have won.

I feel like Starkville is going to be like Fayetteville 2019.

I do not feel confident about this game.

You mean Fayetteville 2021 where our JAG loaded defense got torn up Arky’s strong run game? No way.

If we lose, it’ll be a 17-21 type loss.

Bothers me that I don’t even give a shit about the game this week. If we win, we win. If we lose, we lose.

Doesn't matter because the product on the field is so terrible. Just like back in the Strong era.

I wonder what it is about programs like Ohio State that they are in the mix year in and year out. Texas should be that, but our relevance since 2010 has been such that we will have a good year or a good couple of years and then right back to mediocrity or downright ineptitude.

Might very well be coaching, and I hate that. I really thought might have one in Sark, but this is indefensible.

Vegas has an eye on the Surly Meter. I mentioned the before the OU game I was going to put money on Texas, because Surly was reaching peak toxicity. Surly meter is approaching extreme levels again.

And to be honest yes the play calling and offensive play is subject but our physicality is what really scares me against Miss State.

I mean, I feel that way in the early part of the week, but come Saturday I'm going to be sitting on the couch with my burnt orange shirt holding a beer in a burnt orange koozie cheering on the Horns, all reserving the right on Sunday morning to bitch about the team, the coaches, the players, the play-calling, the training staff, the kids that bring the players Gatorade bottles during a break, and how Mack Brown fucked us in 2013.

I’ll be watching too.

I just don’t have much in terms of expectation anymore.

Aside from the fact that I expect us to continue peddling mediocrity for the next twenty years.

Ohio State is like one of one for being consistently in the mix in the modern era. OU is probably next, which should tell you a lot about how much Ohio State is an outlier there.

TBH I think this is why everyone is all toxic and fucked up. Its not anything you are doing wrong to be clear.

When your Texas Football experience is just the game from your couch and getting on surly to bitch about it, what is there to look forward to?

What happened to people making plans around the game with people they like from the Longhorn fandom even for Away games. What happened to wanting to tailgate and afterparty?

Part of the entire college football experience to me isn't just going to the game waiting forever to leave your parking spot and feeling however the game went. Its about the entire day - the band, the pageantry, the friends, the heckling of the other team, the big plays, the roar of the crowd, things like singing the eyes.

If you are skipping all the good parts all the time, of course there's nothing to look forward to, it's just like kicking yourself in the nuts over and over again.

@YChang came and joined us at KoKos and we watched the same game y'all watched, but it was a roller coaster of emotion and a final victory that I'll remember.

Another buddy of mine got a picture of me in full disappointment after they tied it with the caption

"TFW Kentucky ties it"

I'm not telling anyone how to do anything, but maybe the problem with why you hate everything all the time is the way you are setting things up to hate everything all the time.

We aren't gonna get the greatest show on turf this year - that's not the identity of this team even when it's firing on all cylinders. This team if it gets its act together is going to score points and have wins like OU at best. That was still fantastic.

There's a lot of schedule left and a lot of fun games left after MS State.

Vandy at home is projected by revelxp tent sales to be one of the biggest morning games ever in Austin (if the people show up). Arkansas is the renewal of a rivalry that hasn't happened here since 2008. TAMU hasn't played here since 2011 and was the hottest ticket outside of TX@tOSU the entire year. A night game with nothing else going on because it's holiday time.

There are LOTS of people that are making this about a lot more than the team.

Holy shit that's hilarious.  You're actively making the "this is fine" face.  🤣

Correct!

2021 !!

(2019 was a different disappointing loss to an SEC team in Week 2.)

Was not thinking about our defense getting gashed, but rather thinking about our team entering an environment unprepared for what they were getting ready to experience.

The game is going to start in the afternoon, but that 4th quarter will be played under the lights. (Sunset will be ~ 6:10pm.)  Those stupid cowbells will likely rattle Arch and the rest of our offense.

Seriously.  Ohio State doesn't miss on anything related to football, somehow.

Even the "hot" programs right now went through meh periods - pre-Kirby, Georgia only finished in the top 5 three times under Richt.  ND went through the Willingham/Weis era, and Kelly still had a handful of 8-5 seasons mixed in during his tenure.  Michigan pre- and post- Harbaugh.  Penn State not being able to win the big games under Franklin.

Bama went 17 years between titles after Stallings won in 1992 - DuBose, Fran and Shula eras.  USC went through all kinds of hell and are still not back to prominence.

OU is going through it right now with Venables.

1) I hadn’t considered missing punctuation. I was trying to figure out misspellings and/or missing words. 👍

2) If this is a Bible quote, I only know the Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and Latin versions of the original writings. 😎

I dont think Sark knows what to expect out of this team week to week. I like Scip, but I do not think you can apply rational thought to this team. Texas offense is fragile. They get one or 2 plays that go their way and things can look completely different. Like I said the SurlyMeter is pointing to a good showing from Texas this week.

I think the programs that we are judging ourselves against are Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama (to a somewhat lesser extent because of Saban's retirement).  Day has been at OSU for eight years, head coach for seven and inherited Urb's program pretty intact, which program had been rolling since 2014, at least.

Kirby Smart has been HFC at UGa for nine years.  And while Richt could never get over the hump, Georgia was not exactly in shambles when Kirbo took over.

I don't think I need to explain Alabama.

The coaching and recruiting continuity at those programs is what makes the difference.

I’m just going to assume we’re gonna do our 10-17 points on offense thing. Which means if the defense plays a B level game and we have a blocked punt or something go against us, then yes we lose.

Paul also had the depressing quote of the year: “If we can improve to below average on offense, we can win eight games.”
