Donald Trump 2019

It amazes me how you guys just automatically lump everyone into one of two categories, "us" or "them". Fox news, Trumpkins, GoP. The world is so so black and white to you.  The reality is that there are a full spectrum of people with various views and beliefs.  I happen to hate Trump, Fox News, and as of about 10 years ago, the GoP. But you can't seem to wrap your head around the fact that just because I dare raise a question about "your" team, it must mean I'm part of those "evil, stupid" people.
I pointed out in my post that it would be ludicrous for her to believe that border security is not inline with our values. That means she must have been referring to something else when she said "our values". That leaves only one thing, the racist card. And my point, which of course on this board goes in one ear and out the other, is that every single time "your" party assigns someone as a racist when they have a different viewpoint, your team loses credibility. There are millions of people out there that hear that and become just as outraged as, hmmm, I don't know, let me think, oh, being called "an open borders supporter".  You see how that works? You are fully justified in being outraged at being unfairly called a supporter of "open borders", but if someone else is called a racist because they think a wall would help with border security, that's fine because, well uh, they are actually a racist.
It doesn't matter whether Trump is a racist or not. I think there's some pretty good evidence that he is a racist.  What's important is demonstrating leadership and the democratic congressional leader came across as undignified and just like all the other idiots running around calling everyone a racist. She needs to rise above it, stay focused on the facts of a wall being an ineffective tool to secure the border, and win the minds of not only her own team, but the tens of millions of us that are sick and tired of the tremendous faults of both parties.  The democrats have a chance to completely take over and dominate politics for the next 50 years. All I want to see is rational thinking and decision-making. On her first day back in charge, she tosses out the race card.

Look everyone! It’s a Gary Johnson voter! We’re saved from ourselves!

They were talking about a wall, not border security.  The reason people are treating you like a MAGA idiot is because you were asking MAGA idiot questions in preparation to make a MAGA idiot argument, which is what you just made.  That Pelosi saying "building a giant concrete fucking wall across our southern border is not in line with who we are" only has one possible meaning - race card.

No, no, don't you see? He hates the GOP! The fact that he's consistently parroting their propaganda is just a complete coincidence!

No.  They're not.  We've found out who they are.  They salivate to the dog-whistles of xenophobia and demonization of the other.  They are HAPPY to create detention camps for brown kids.  They will dismiss -- in a heartbeat -- the ideals of honesty and trustworthiness in order to follow a charlatan.

These are not good people.  They are bad people, who used to have the common sense and obedience to social order to keep their shittiness to themselves.  Now, they feel free to let their shittiness show, and they ain't shy about it.

Many?  Yes.  All?  No.

Hugo makes sense but everyone is so foaming at the mouth pissed, they won't listen.  I get the anger b/c I feel it too.

But that ubiquitous 40% isn't going anywhere so we better find a way to figure out how to get a significant amount to tact in a different direction.  Because the other option is eliminating them....how pissed are you?

It's profit but the picture is far bigger.  FOX News might as well be a loss leader, Murdoch doesn't care.  It's the message they push and the results on a national level that matter.

Pretty fucking pissed.  But no, not that pissed.

What do we do with them?  Humiliate and shame them, relentlessly.  My FIL has ALWAYS been a racist piece of shit.  But for a long time, he knew that the existing social order would make him a pariah if he dropped N-bombs and slurred mexicans (even though he occasionally slipped on both counts).  Now, he's free to be a loathsome toad, and to wear it as a badge of honor.

Nope.  Shame them back under their rocks.  Eventually, they die out more and more.  There will always be stupid loathsome toads.  But they should hide under rocks where toads belong.  Giving them the freedom to be pieces of shit in public, and to rally other pieces of shit to their cause, is the problem.  My FIL should live under his rock, utter the N-word to himself as he watches Fox News, and then die, not having poisoned anyone else with his garbage.

But....that ship has sailed.  They are emboldened, and they aren't going back under their rocks again.  So, like I've said n other posts, there is no solving this problem.  We have a huge cancer, and it ain't going away.

Not authoritarian at all

As noted a jillion times on this board, there is no party. Only Trump.  There is no identify for the GOP outside of Trump and Trumpism anymore.  To see a party go from a party to a cult in a matter of months -- well, sometimes it's amazing to watch history unfold.

The guy looks just like Mussolini in that pic.  Jutting out his jaw to try to look less turkey necked and all.

Apparently I'm not the only one who sees it.  Just did a quick google image search for Mussolini and there were at least a dozen comparisons out there.

Here's one.

The first half of that video where it shows the chaos are scenes where the is already a wall built. So obviously a wall doesn't keep any of that from happening. The other scenes would be the same with our without any wall. If you want to make a case for a wall show scenes of people swimming across the river or open lands where one border patrol car is out in the middle of nowhere. But I guess that doesn't hit the fear factor.

Fighting a bullshit wall that will do nothing to keep us safer and would be a tremendous waste of taxpayer money during a time of extraordinarily large deficits (caused by republicans by the way) is "rational thinking and decision-making." It's the same bullshit slorch and others put out there. They say don't like Trump but then says "the democrats just aren't giving us any good  alternatives." Of course, any democrat is worse than Trump in your eyes because even reasonable democratic positions have been demonized as "socialist" or even "evil," and of course most democrats will support some of the more left-leaning proposals that, you know, democrats have supported for a long time. You'll gladly pull the lever for Trump when the democrats nominate a centrist who will be labeled an "Obama-loving socialist" and you'll eat it right up and claim that you just couldn't support "left wing extremism" and that it's the democrats fault that you just had no other option but to vote for Trump. But you hate him, promise!

Yes.  Bottom line is they are liars and they DO like him.  They know it's uncouth to own up to it, but inside they love it.  Not good people.

Can HBO or George RR Martin sue him for copyright infringement?

So he's using a tagline from a show in which a wall doesn't work to try and sell a useless wall.   Interesting strategy there.

<not an IP attorney>  There is probably some level of protection on the font that doesn't fall under "fair use".  I'm not sure about the phrase.  They could argue that it's satire.

I think the wall stuff is encouraging.  He seems to be losing the public debate over it.  I think that speaks to higher order thinking than most political issues these days.  It takes 1 second to say why a wall is good -- "Stop 'em from coming!" -- and a minute to see through it, and people are largely choosing the 1 minute option.

There will never be a fucking wall. No more so than an upgrade of the shit which already exists.

The American people by a 2/3rds majority do not want it, it would be hideously ugly and symbolically repugnant, TEXAS DOES NOT WANT IT (would destroy the economy of the state and the scenery and culture of Texas' fucking beautiful border areas) , it would probably cost ~ 100 billion to build and maintain ( not a paltry 5 ) and, most importantly, it would be logistically and physically impossible to build where walls aren't built already.

It would be a grotesque and costly scar across the new world.

It is not going to happen. Ever. Forget about it. You're much better off with a high tech, job intensive, comprehensive, culturally and historically sensitive DACA solution which builds up Mexico and The United States congruently.

Besides if we better merged Mexico and America together we'd have a final 4 World Cup team instantly.

The fact that he's using terms like "steel slats" and "barrier" now is proof enough that he knows he's losing.  For two years it was nothing other than "A BIG BEAUTIFUL CONCRETE WALL!!!!"

Kinda regret giving you the benefit of the doubt in my previous post.  The fact that you saw "the race card" in Pelosi's comments is incredibly unfortunate and telling.
Tip for the future: If you have to write 500 words about how you aren't a racist when nobody has come close to calling you that, well....
AND TO BE CLEAR: I am not calling you a racist.  I just think the "what do you guys expect when you call of us racists" card is incredibly overplayed and used to justify shitty politics.

I thought that’s what you implied she meant. What was she implying by using the term “values” then?

I actually thought of this very specific item. It’s a fair thought. The problem with it is that it has nothing to do with a border security. It’s already been established that pelosi must care about border security and she was referencing border security in her statement. So again, what “values” was she referencing?
