  1. i've been on these boards for 25 years. this is not "the internet", and should never be dismissed as that, especially to excuse or allow what might be labeled "typical and unavoidable online bullying". this is not elon's twitter. this is not reddit. this is a community, and always has been. i know many of you in real life. some i knew before and separately from these sites, and others since. i've met a whole bunch more out in the world just once or twice. i've met some of you for lunch, a beer, scored coke for one of you, and connected another of you with a midget for a bachelor party in vegas. rip donny. i am friends with derka. not "friendly", friends. i knew he and bob had been meeting and working on things, and i thought that was great of bob to do, and i know derka appreciated it. i did not become friends with derka to help him through his mental issues, i became friends with him because i like him and we have a lot in common and i enjoy talking sports and tv shows with him. we text most every day. i've texted with his mom, and she is a wonderful and supportive human being. happy birthday, betsy. derka gets worked up here, like others do at home, a sporting event, a bar, or a grocery store. everyone has their outlets. that's who he is, and if you don't think he's worked hard and gotten a shit-ton better over the years, you haven't been paying attention. derka has an issue letting things go and settling back down from a worked-up state. he'd be the first to admit this. he has bitten his tongue, so to speak, dozens, if not hundreds of times, when people would antagonize him. it's bullshit it was happening to begin with, but he was doing his best not to exacerbate the issue. what you've seen from him on this site is not perfect, but it was the best he could do, and i consider it admirable. again, i'm his friend, so i am a biased commenter here. there's nothing about this situation that doesn't suck. i think most of us are on the same page on that. surly is not groupthink. it's not an echo chamber. even the cloak room isn't that way, though it's often characterized as such. anyone who says that hasn't been over there in several years. there are lots of opinions, lots of discussions, and lots of characters that fill out this community. but there's only one derka. immamac is trying to change that, and i disagree mightily with this decision. it also sucked that it was made in advance, which makes this even more inexcusable. flying off the handle and making a rash decision at least could be understood, if not justified. yes, it is his decision to make, no one is disputing whether he has that ability. yes, it sucks that derka and bob were on the road to recovery, and immamac stepped in and reversed that progress. ironically, this type of reversal is exactly the type of thing that drives derka over the edge. he jumped through the hoops, he did the work, he shared himself, he was honest and self-deprecating about it. and now he's told no, it's easier just to rid ourselves of you. someone upthread called derka a cancer. i know because i negged him. it's probably my 2nd or 3rd ever neg-rep and i stand by it. cancer needs to be removed to make the body stronger. that's not what's happening here. if derka is gone for good, it will make things worse. worse for him and worse for this community. from reading through this thread, it's pretty obvious that i'm not alone in this opinion. a few pages ago, immamac said that sometimes derka would get banned, and he would get pm's asking for him to be reinstated, because derka had asked people to do this. as someone who has sent one of those pm's, i can say i was not asked to do so. if you know derka at all, you would know he doesn't go around begging others to fight his battles. shit, how could anyone not know this? i saw what happened and sent those messages on my own accord, because while i don't always do what's right, i always know what's right. and this is not right. reinstate him. it's what's right.

  2. I was born in government housing. we were on food stamps for most of my childhood. I attended public schools where my breakfasts and lunches were paid for. I earned a scholarship to UT, a public school, where I also received pell grants. I now pay a metric shit ton in taxes and have endowed a scholarship at UT - all part of giving back to the country, state, and university that helped me and my family climb out of poverty. I know it works because I have lived it.

  5. I just can't imaging lamenting that my tax dollars are going to educating someone, or feeding someone, or providing them shelter, or taking care of their medical needs. But I'm not a piece of shit, so I got that going for me...

  6. Interesting viewpoint here. On one hand, you desire to see people physically abused for their beliefs, and on the other, you express dismay that you might be virtually punished for yours.

  9. You're a fucking embarrassment to the university. Whether you agree with students or not, you should damn well understand that they have a right to protest. People were constantly protesting shit on the west mall when I was there in the 90's. I disagreed with half of it, but actually dug hanging out around those protests. It was a great way to hear viewpoints different from mine, and I occasionally learned something. That exposure to differing viewpoints was a critical part of the university experience which formed the person that I am today. The 40 acres shouldn't be forced to bend a knee to whatever dipshit political animal inhabits the gov's mansion. My opinion of Hartzell is pretty goddamned low right now. What the fuck crimes were committed that warranted that response?

  15. I know I shouldn't waste any time thinking about it but holy shit stuff like this massive interest from every target makes me hate some of our former coaches even more. Most of us in this forum knew that if we could just stop stepping on our own dicks for maybe a little while and win anything meaningful that the floodgates would open. Obviously rivals tried to argue Texas was done (even some idiots on the football board tried to say we were just living in the past and weren't actually that desirable of a place to coach and play), but this is already happening after winning one conference title and losing one playoff game. That's all we've done. Sarkisian is not an elite head coach yet to me. He's young enough that he can get there and he's trending well but he isn't there yet. But dammit after living through the last decade-and-a-half just simply not fucking up what has been handed on a plate seems like a damn miracle well worth what we're paying him now. Came in as NIL and transfer rules opened up to our benefit. But you're a fool if you think the clowns previously in his position wouldn't have screwed it up anyway.

  17. It’s not even about Palestine. It’s about students assembling peacefully getting attacked by cops unprovoked. If you have a modicum of respect for the first amendment, you should have a problem with the images we’re seeings. Students on college campuses should have the ability to assemble peacefully. Universities are supposed to be a place where differing opinions are debated peacefully without the fear of being beaten down by cops in riot gear.

  19. Was linked to this thread today. Derka shouldn't be permabaned. I realize who he is as a poster, and as a person, and I understand the viewpoint that someone who apparently has a mental illness to the point that he can't even put a poster on ignore shouldn't be on a webstie like this one...it's not a post without merit. And if I'm Immamac, who deals with so much thankless bullshit for this site becuase he also loves it, I can totally understand where he's coming from, and this decision. Does/Has Derka get special treatment? Maybe. And maybe he should get special treatment, becuase as other posters have said this board means a lot more to him than it probably does, or even CAN for the rest of us. The guy has been with us for 20 years, and he does create content instead of drive by bullshit, and there is 100% a contingent of motherfuckers on this site who bullies him. And honestly maybe we can give him special treatment because we know Derka has problems, we know how little he has and that so much of it is this community, and because that's who we can be as a community. Sometimes online, even when you CAN defend yourself online and the wannabe bullies and cowards can't handle it, then the just try new and other ways to be bullies and pieces of shit and fuck with your life. And that's what a lot of bullies do, they don't like you or what you say so they find some other way to attack you, usually becuase their own lives are such worthless pieces of shit. I know a little but about that personally. They can't handle you with their own posts, so they'll try another way to fuck with your life. Unfortunately for Derka, a chunk of this community is his life, and it's pretty easy for people online to fuck with his life as a result. I'm sad to see him go. And for everyone who said he's a cancer, who whined about him not just hitting ignore and learning to grow up, that's a fucking two way street. Any of you could have put him on ignore at any point and been the non-mentally ill adult in the room. Or could you? Thanks for your patience, @immamac. You do a ton for this community because you also love it, and many just don't recognize it.

  20. Submitting a new frivolous acquisition - 991.2 Carrera GTS in agate grey with 7MT. I haven't had a "fun" car in years. The itch has been growing and I settled on a manual 911. I've been patiently waiting for a car to come for sale with my preferred options and color (grey or blue). When this one popped up with all the boxes checked, I pulled the trigger. It is an absolute blast!

  23. Just saw this thread. From a site business perspective, I would guess that derka still drives plenty of views and activity when he has something to say. Conversely, MotownHorn is a bandwidth draining troll that has never added a single positive contribution to any thread on this site. His handle is even a troll. I know derka has his issues, and he cannot control his behavior at times which merits time off. But he has interesting things to say. He provides a fun amount of chaos because many simply can't handle his management of his position coupled with Hyperbolic Personality Disorder-driven rants about himself in relation to perceived affronts. Inside of all of that are usually good points for consideration around whatever the subject matter is. If you took the 5-6 posters who ride his ass all over this board and permabanned them, no one would even notice. Permabanning derka, however, does diminish the value of the content on this site in some form.

  25. It’s true, Laramie will not be on scholarship next year. We just closed on a huge NIL deal with Pantene that will make Laramie the highest paid shampoo influencer in Travis County. We didn’t want to give up the scholarship at first but it’s going to be given to a player who will be transferring in. I can’t say who but let’s just say that it will be going to a wonderful young man who has been in the transfer portal a few times but is an amazing teammate and even better friend, just ask Harvdog.
