In the spirit of futility and praying at the altar of Saint Rita of Cascia, I'll throw a few things out there that are allegedly germane to the origins of this thread.

1) If things go right, Toviano and Matthews sign with Texas and round out the DB class.

2) That means there wouldn't be room at the inn for flips on the db side.

3) Toviano is a wild card for the weekend. He might wind up at the bbq and the aggie swimming sword fight. Might go to neither.

4) They're still trying to find as many big bodies for the DL as they can. It doesn't sound like there's really a limit for those spots. If they can get Deal, Brown, the Florida guys, Hicks, Vasek, Akana, Shelby, Gullette ... it would be interesting to see if that created a limit. They've never fully pushed for Vasek, so I guess there's some limit hypothetically. That said, they're highly unlikely to get many of those guys.

5) Hicks could go anywhere over the next few days, but he's choosing to go to Oklahoma. The depth chart is ugly for him at ATM and the scheme, as far as he and his dad can tell, is ugly for them at Texas. There's a significant contributor to Hicks' ultimate decision that favors Texas big time, so I guess it's good that this will drag out and that person can keep talking. Especially if Texas has a strong year.

6) Shelby is USC bound barring the parents putting their foot down about distance.

7) How hard is Bama going to push Hale this weekend? No one knows.

Take notes, you dumb fucking coelenterate butt-sweating pig fuckers, this is how you post on this board.

If you want to talk about political garbage or current events take it to the appropriate boards.  Spread your mental illness elsewhere; we're all stocked up here!

How is the DL scheme bad for him?

PK's scheme has the DL occupy blockers and funnel plays to the LBs and safeties. Which didn't work so well last year when we had two of the worst run-stopping LBs in the Big 12 in Overshown and Brockermeyer.

The technical geeks can chime in with aplomb here, but for brevity's sake of answering the question, most DLs see themselves in some way as getting after the QB and creating TFLs and then getting drafted for being a disruptive force. Guys like Mitchell get compared to guys like Vita Vea and that is a selling point, but most guys under 340 are not going to get excited about playing Catch & Release with blockers so non-existent LB and DB help can "clean up" the play.

The idea of ends holding the edge and others cleaning up the play sounds disastrous. I don’t think we have the linebackers for it, and I don’t blame pass rushers for being uninterested in the job. Feels like a situation where the coach and his system is rigid and isn’t optimized to the personnel which is almost always a mistake. Players are hard to get and pipeline talent is everything. Schemes and coaches can be changed a lot more easily.

How likely do you feel Akana is, in your discussions? Utah 995ers seems convinced he's Texas bound, OU thinks he's theirs, and our 995ers seem to be downplaying any kind of interest here. Did perhaps things pick up when Liona Lefau committed?

Yea that doesn't sound like very much fun at all. The perfect scheme is for naught if you can't recruit because of it.

I believe his sister is at Texas on the volleyball team now.  I think that is where the confidence for Akana is coming from.

Yeah, she is, it just seems like that didn't move the needle with our people who should know. I do know theres been mention that Akan doesn't really do interviews so its possible no one has a good read.

That's not allowed either. There's a reason that guy has been crowdsourced about 2 dozen times at this point. Even the fucking players and recruits kicked his ass out of their text strings.

I wonder if one becomes stuck in this scheme because disruptive linemen avoid it.

If we had a D Line of quick, powerful top talents, wouldn't fear of one of them getting loose in the backfield constrain OL from just brushing by to get to the second level? Swamping the O Line with hard chargers would have the same effect as the dreary business of DL blocking for the linebackers. Would PK change his scheme if that kind of talent could be attracted?

Otherwise, you'll mainly get big strong block absorbers who may not be able to generate the kind of pass rush you'd like. You'll never get to try the paragraph above. Did PK mainly work with lines of limited talent?

If PK would change to a more aggressive approach on the field for DL, mightn't he be able to sell that to the disruptive talents out there?

Just a non-expert's musings.

A bunch of other dipshits wanted the rest of us to fully understand the depths of their mundane existence, so they started up the first ongoing ladder quality discussion in Internet history.

And monkeys.

I don't think dick all has been discussed outside of that in the last 2-3 pages.

So basically just a normal day on Surly?

If you can’t get elite pass rushers then you get end setters and fast guys behind them or run a 3-4 or some other scheme way to to generate disruption. If you can get elite pass rushers you do it because getting pressure with fewer people is a huge advantage. Gettin pass rush and generating penalties and play disruption is hugely valuable.

No one seems to know shit. So it's either a case of the player not knowing what they're going to do yet or it isn't good for Texas. My view on the Utah mod's take is that he's reading tea leaves too and nothing more.

For sark or pk? If it’s for pk, then it should be done already.

I think it is known that I'm not here to carry water for coaches, much less Seven Loss Steve and Kwiatkowski. That considered, there is merit to their arguments to anyone who will listen that a) these players have literally never had two seasons of continuity since getting to campus, irrespective of when the player got to campus and b) the raw materials were really grim and the attitudes were worse.

How much of either factor is eradicated now for 2022? I mean, I hope all of it. I'm nonetheless from Missouri on it.

Has anyone even published an attendee list for our event? Seems odd that there's been nothing on it while all the Aggie sites are updating their list every 5 minutes

The aggie moderators are being pushed to gin up the appearance of activity from their recruiting admin support inside the program. They're competing with activities all over the country this weekend. Texas just looked at it and said "fuck it" and put theirs on Thursday when no one else is doing anything.

For Texas, I think IT has published a pretty good list though.

None. I don't expect to land Shelby. For the rest, you could tell me any future outcome for any of them and I'd give it credence. I do know that Bo Davis gets his men though, and often surprises along the way. Whoever Banks is focused on, or helping with, should also be watched closely for recruitniks and not just because he's a good recruiter.

I stepped in hobo shit last weekend in downtown San Antonio. I started to lean into Charles Barkley’s perspective of the city. Alas, the sheer amount of delectable latina cheek meat cannot be ignored. Do we have to wait till August for our next commitment?

While this is purely based on a quick glance at the attributed recruiters at 247 and On3 (so take FWIW) for a scattering of highly rated commits and targets, for those interested, Banks is listed as primary or secondary recruiter for Cook, Hill, Muhammad, Duce Robinson, Jayvon Thomas and Toviano.

The Orlando and PK schemes turn off certain recruits. Even if PK’s scheme is good, if you can’t get the top guys it’s not going to be very successful.

I remain skeptical of our defense. We didn’t bring in many transfers, we made no defensive coaching changes, and only brought in a fat sweaty Texas hater to help, maybe. Sark has not addressed the defense like he has the offense. We will need to score 70 a game.

The scheme where you realize you don't have the players for what you want to run so either play to absolutely contain at all costs or the scheme where you say fuck it and create chaos for the offense, even if it backfires occasionally.  I don't believe LB sees the field in either unsatisfactory scenario.

That’s the appeal of PKs system, you don’t have to get the top guys for it to be effective. But you still need guys who fit and have the desired mindset.
