I wonder where we would be now if we had listened to that flat tax guy who wanted to set it at 14%? I think that was the percentage. It was an odd amount but 14% is what I am remembering. That was about 25 years ago or more. I think we'd be way better off but we can't ever do anything easy or what is best because the dicks in power are always going to try to fuck us over.

I can't fathom how a single member of the military or their families pulls the lever for dotard in November.  He's actively trying to kill them.
A former Army flight medic I'm friends with post socialism fear porn 24/7. And propaganda and lies. I was pointing this out for awhile and he would snap to and apologize. It's ramped up ; I had to unfollow him. Propaganda and manipulation works. Anyone taking a victory lap on Dotard needs to wake up. He's still got 40% of the country and they are going to vote. Same shit worked for the Nazis.

Biden's current message is the right path. Hammer issues that the majority of Americans support. Ease up on extreme cancel culture and super progressive measures that can be distorted.

Scary GOP ad/ Joe Biden wants to fix the economy and save Medicare. Joe Biden reads. Joe Biden listens to the experts. Joe Biden has a platform that the vast majority of Americans agree with. / Scary GOP ad

This.  While the bottom line is deaths, without massive testing, you have no idea how many people really died from it.  Which I guess is the dotard's ultimate goal.

They've apparently won the battle of focusing only on deaths. The suffering and costs of ongoing problems for most people hospitalized with Covid will be devastating over time. I will be tiresomely pointing this out periodically.

The government-encouraged delusion that one either dies from the disease or barely notices it, I'm sure, is why so many people risk not wearing masks and dismiss the risks altogether.

This is another failure of the news media as well. Cases and death rate are the story, from this the lazy, template-oriented TV News meat puppets will not stray. Longer term effects haven't been quantified and handed to them, so they can't supply the graphics to fuel their endless opinion shows.

There are exceptions, of course. Rachel Maddow emerges as a giant of actual journalism. As does John Oliver who doesn't consider himself a journalist. I haven't watched 60 Minutes in decades other than to tune in and see how Lesley Stahl is holding up so maybe they should be included, too. Man, I'd love to see Mike Wallace interview a Trump.

Somebody on another thread found out at the coronavirus.gov site, the main website for government data and resources and guidelines...was registered and launched on 8 January.  Just 9 days after China revealed the Covid-19 virus strain.  Curious that his administration deployed that resource over a hoax that was already about to disappear.  Somebody sure as shit knew something was about to go horribly wrong in this country with this virus, and had that kind of foresight.  But like the Russian Bounty Hunters, it did not rise to the level of the President taking note of it on his PDB.  But what does rise to the level of the President's daily briefing interest are the words of the great Chuck Woolery.

I don't know the ins and outs of domain stuff, but I remember that post and the reply. I went to the site that was listed, and it was not a govt site I don't think. You may wish to locate that post and examine it more carefully to ensure that it is actually a .gov site because the reply to you (by texasg8tr?) showed a .org site. I don't know how all that differs, but if it does matter, then it might be of no consequence as to the government.

I, like many, probably including yourself before moving, am cornholed by the elimination of the property/state tax deduction.

It pisses me off, but it needed to happen.

Heaven forbid Amazon, Google or the others carry some of the load.

Lou Saban...

The president, never shy about his admiration for the football dynasty Nick Saban has built at the University of Alabama, mentioned Tuberville’s success against the Crimson Tide as Auburn’s head coach, a run that helped bring Saban to Alabama to reverse the trend. But Trump got Saban’s first name wrong more than once on tonight’s call.

“Really successful coach,” Trump said, speaking of Tuberville. “Beat Alabama, like six in a row, but we won’t even mention that. As he said … because of that, maybe we got ‘em Lou Saban. … And he’s great, Lou Saban, what a great job he’s done.”

Disagree.  We have created a system where state and local governments are responsible for pretty much everything.  As long as that is true, they should receive the bulk of our tax money.  I'm not sure why we should throw our money into a black hole when services provided by our states and cities are currently running in the red.  SALT deductions at least allowed us to pay state and local "first."

I do know that in functioning nations, national governments are able to provide and distribute services for the benefit of all their citizens.  Since we are a failed state though, we are better off funding the local warlords than throwing our money away.

If you eliminate the deductions, then get rid of the fucking progressive taxes.  Also, get the rates lower.  I would be ok with a flat tax of 10 or 15% provided the first 40-50k for each individual was tax free (that is honestly what it costs to live) on a pure income tax.  You get no other deductions.  You eliminate all sorts of costs with enforcement.

I'm thinking of a complete overhaul.  FICA is a good setup.  Its a specific tax to provide 2 specific services.  All FIT should follow the same setup.  Have a military tax and an administrative tax.  When the federal government needs more, they can pass a new specific tax, or they can go to state governments directly for funding.

I'm a tax and spend liberal.  I would love for us to have first world level social services and infrastructure.  But it just doesn't happen.  We get jackshit for increased taxes.

Except for billionaires because no human being needs that much money.  But let's take it to the tax thread.

Assume we missed 25% of the deaths caused by Coronavirus.  So that puts the net total at what?---175k, 200k?  SOmething like that?

Is that really his strategy?  It won't sit with Americans to lose 185,000 fellow citizens due to our inept handling of it, but we can live with 140,000 dead and promises of "tremendous testing?"  What the fuck?

It’s mostly old people, TRUMP SLAYS THE SOCIAL SECURITY CRISIS!1!!!!

Fuck that. Need to return to the 50s when they rich paid a fair share instead of stealing more. You have to give the prol a bone and then or they revolt.

Well, that's a different issue.

I do rather like your idea of the states being the first and primary level of taxation, though.

I've always wondered what the ole cabeza looks like.  Ground beef?  Maybe I'll run for office..... you obviously don't need experience or competence.  I can't fail.

Ivanka is way too stupid to be that character.

Flat tax talk not going away. It works great in countries like [checks notes] Russia, Estonia, and Mongolia.

Ummm.....you do realize that holding us up in comparison to countries like that isn't nearly as favorable as it once used to be, right?  Shit, with 13 million people, Estonia has a total of 69 dead from Covid, as just one example.

We are Texas football under Mackovic -- we talk about our glory days, while we lose actual games to fucking RICE.

He must have gotten huge ratings and rave reviews from yesterday’s performance.

Not sure what the impetus is for this PC. He’s just so impulsive that it’s hard to know what made him all of a sudden want to speak. Could be a tweet he read or something he saw on Fox News or something one of his sycophants told him. Maybe he took a glorious deuce this morning and wants to share. Guess we’ll find out. But not at 5 EDT. He’s never on time.

If you get rid of deductions a wage earner who has $100K in wages and a business owner who has $100K in revenue and $50K in expenses would pay the same tax.

He believes the way he'll win this is to get in front of the cameras everyday - regardless of what he's there to talk about.  He'll lie about Obama/Biden screwing up COVID tests.  He'll lie about pre-existing conditions.  He'll lie about DACA.

I was just thinking how a mild mannered former colonel in the US Army, holder of a Legion of Merit could forever go down in history as the wrinkled but winsome martyr at the Twilight Of A Thousand Scarves in which an intrepid physician sheds the vapid adulation act and pulls a Princess Leia. In the ensuing pandemonium,  Jabba the Hutt does a face plant onto the podium with his protruding tongue leaving a trail of drool over the binder containing Jared and Ivanka's hopes and dreams.

I can’t listen to Dotard talk, at all. The day that idiot dies needs to be declared a national holiday going forward. If I still drank I would probably die of alcohol poisoning the day it happens.

Dr. Birx in the Rose Garden with a scarf. Brisket was talking about choking and the President and it brought to mind the scene from Return of the Jedi.

I read this in Tim Curry's voice, "It was Dr. Birx in the Press Room...with the Scarf!"

I laughed, then I got said again.  Only good news is Trump dies in September of this year.

So I guess this is a Colbert thing, who I really like, but honestly, this isn't the fucking time.  I am usually the last one to defend Rs (or former Rs), but The Lincoln Project is kicking ass and taking names right now.  Enemy of my enemy is my friend and all that.  We need them in this fight.  If Biden wins in November, sure, have at them.  Let's focus on step one in this shitshow, getting rid of dotard.

This feels like some Bernie-bro shit.  Also, it's just kind of annoying with the cartoons and their equally cartoonish voices.

Agreed. Even those bitchy GOP staffers in that article the other day reacted the most to the Lincoln Project. They seemed indifferent to Donald, Biden, the fate and trajectory of the country, etc etc, but they spit straight venom at Lincoln Project. They will never be allowed back no matter who wins!!1!
