Did that.  "We are not going to be vaccinating patients and have no say in county/state priorities."

Sorry man, that's not cool. Combined with @Neonmoon's post above, this rollout is going about as well as the testing and that was awful.

Just saw @Pancho's post. 41 years old.

Yep. Can’t even blame this on Dotard. Get your shit together texas.

Well you can....just like with testing/ppe Trump said "ah fuck it why don't the 50 of you deal with it on your own"  While they also have to deal with all the other shit that's been left to them.

100%.  And no one will admit this.  The Boomers' fear of the Russians completely fucked us because they were too stupid to understand the difference between socialism and oppressive communism.

The boomers weren’t even in power when the wall fell. They’re just greedy and selfish bastards.

Yes.  And my point still stands.  I'm not entirely blaming them, honestly.  They were raised with a boogeyman (perhaps warranted, in the context of nuclear weapons) and then they graduated to an imaginary boogey man once the Cold War ended.  But fuck them for falling for the fake socialism/communism one.

Damn. That Letlow guy tested positive 11 days ago. And now he’s dead at 41 and left a widow and two small children.

And the replies are just as savage as you would imagine.

Sucks for his kids but I can’t really feel bad for him or his wife. He ran for office as a Republican in 2020, so was almost automatically an evil piece of shit based on that alone. And his wife married someone who ran for office as a Republican in 2020, so she sucks ass as well. And the Republican in 2020 should give it away, but of course he was cavalier about covid and needlessly endangered himself and others. He fucked around and found out, and now his kids don’t have a dad because he wanted to own the libs. Fuck him.

He was an active opponent of Covid precautions, campaigned w/ in-person events without a mask, and was a Trump butt licker.

Fuck that guy.

He likely gave it to others, and he definitely worked to make central Louisiana an unhealthier place while he lived.

Here is the problem with the "planning" on distribution. The plan was always, we will get the vaccine out to you as quick as we can!  And in  August, you can plan for 300 million doses by the end of the year....  And we will eventually allow the states to decide how to administer the 300 million doses.  After the election there is a chance we will still get 100 million doses by the end of the year, and we are going to pick out some contractors and make it happen!  Around Thanksgiving we are damn near certain there will be 60 million does by the end of the year, and we have chosen contractors and not given them any guidance.  In Mid December it is confessed that we will be lucky as hell to get 30 million into the arms of individuals.  As the year comes to an end, we are hoping to maybe possibly get 20 million folks a first dose...

Perhaps if we did not lie repeatedly about the volume, it might have been a lot easier to roll out?  Is the plan for 300 million, 100 million, 30 million, or the current hopeful 15 million? Do you plan for the 20 fold lie?  Or the 1/20th reality as a private contractor?

I attempted to look at a few of his tweets. He mentioned radical socialism only once in the last couple or three months and was apparently a supporter of mask wearing, but I do see in a post where campaign events had massless people. He did support Trump, but everyone of them outside of Romney did. He lost his life and the tragedy is leaving behind his wife and children. Now isn’t the time to mock a Republican death from COVID. A life ends prematurely and that’s sad. Way too many Americans left this world early in 2020.

There's a part of me that would have wanted to say he f'd around and found out had he gotten it and lived. I realize we all process this differently because of the damage Republicans in general have done to this country and how absolutely flippant millions of them have been about COVID overall. I just think of those children not having a father now. That is incredibly sad.

I think it's sad when someone, who was otherwise a decent person, goes to prison when they do something stupid. They leave behind a family, friends, a life. But while the effects of that person's actions on them and their family is sad, that sadness doesn't justify failing to critique the stupid actions that put the person in that situation as a warning to others not to do the same. I agree with the sentiment that it should be done without cruelty to the extent it can.

I agree that this man’s death can serve as a warning to folks who are not taking COVID seriously. We have posters on here who are busy working the ER as doctors, nurses as well as other hospital personnel who are being stretched to their mental limit due to COVID. They are seeing folks like this come in who are not leaving the hospital alive. I would hope that at least some of the anti-mask brigade who thinks this whole pandemic is fake will look at this man’s death and see that it is not.

We all need to set aside the politics right now and just do what medical professionals are asking us to do. We know Trump made this pandemic infinitely more deadly due to his blatant inaction and total disregard for any human being but himself. Right now we really need to just do what we can to slow things down. If you see someone not following the mask protocol then confront them and show them the seriousness of the situation.

These people have actively caused the US response to be completely shit and for hundreds of million of Americans and people living in america to be negatively impacted directly. They are pure evil and should receive the same sympathy as history's evil dictators and psychopaths. You don't feel sympathy for Saddam, Ted Bundy, or Jeffrey Dahmer do you? And they killed/harmed a tiny fraction of the Americans these republican fucks have.

It's time to treat these people like the enemies they truly are.

NSIAP:

Quote

AUSTIN (KXAN) — “We are tired.”

The words of Austin-area intensive care unit physician Dr. Shailaja Hayden are not only hers, but of all healthcare workers in the area as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to rise out of control.

Hayden spoke with Dr. Mark Escott, Austin-Travis County’s interim health authority, and Travis County Judge Andy Brown during Escott’s COVID-19 update with Brown, and her words were both powerful and a plea for help from the community.

“The projections are chilling,” she said following Escott’s explanation of data projections from the University of Texas, showing ICU beds could be full by next week. “We are working at capacity, and the idea that numbers can increase is daunting.”

While speaking on the video conference, Hayden was in a room previously occupied by a patient who was transferred to Austin from a town in West Texas because hospitals were overwhelmed and had to send people elsewhere for care. Hayden said, while the person fought valiantly for life, they had recently died from COVID-19 complications hundreds of miles from home and family.

“That’s something I don’t want to see happening here in Austin,” she said. “Since all our surrounding metro regions are also in bad shape, there may be nowhere to transport anybody, and we may end up in a situation where we have to use less-experienced staff in makeshift rooms, and that’s a nightmare none of us want to come to.”

Escott went over the numbers with Brown, like he did Monday during Austin Public Health’s media availability videoconference, and they remain grim. Currently, 132 of 200 ICU beds are in use in the Austin-Travis County area. Models from UT show that if not decreased, the current rate of transmission could lead to ICUs being full by Jan. 7.

“This is something that leads to unsustainable growth,” Escott said. “This is what we saw in Wuhan, New York and on the West Coast early on. Hospitals will go from kind of full and being OK, to overwhelmed in a period of a few days. That’s how quickly it changes.”

He said if communities respond after that happens, it takes “weeks” for hospitals to come down from that.

He said the seven-day rolling average of new cases is 417, and the rolling hospitalization average is now 64 with 68 new admissions reported Monday.

He pointed out that for the past three weeks hospitals have admitted around 21-22 people aged 20-29 per week, and since the risk of hospitalization for that age group is so low, there’s “massive” amounts of transmission within that age group, as well as the 30-39 age group.

“We need to impact the transmission in those age groups,” Escott said. “It’s particularly important for people in those age groups to understand that you can end up in critical care if you’re young. You can die, even if you’re young.”

Hayden said she treated a 25-year-old COVID-19 patient who died of the disease, and she said that’s something she “never wants to see again.”

While she said the chances of a young person dying from COVID-19 are small, they are still there and that people can “have a hellish journey in the hospital before you recover that can change your life forever.”

“A virtual holiday celebration is kinda lame, but a virtual funeral is heartbreak,” she said. “To do what you can to protect not only yourself, but your mom, someone else’s mom, or anyone out in the community who may not be able to withstand this disease.”

Dr. Hayden is one of the best physicians I've had the privilege to work with during the pandemic. She knows what's up.

They're not enemies. They're just Americans who have a difficult time understanding reality.

Well, when one of the members of the political party encouraging swimming during rip-tides during a national rip-tide crisis drowns while swimming in a rip-tide, my thoughts go to how many other people he successfully convinced to swim in rip-tides- not how tragic it was that he died.

I don’t know where else to post this, but I want to echo what a fucking shit show this vaccine distribution is.  The dshs site list all the locations(but of course no phone numbers).  You call them and they say they don’t have it, don’t know when they are getting it, etc.

How is it that one of these major systems(hell HEB pharmacy when it’s open) can’t do what Tarrytown pharmacy did and put together a simple Google doc to put your info for them to contact you?

We are going to needlessly kill more people because we have incompetent fucks running this country.

How is their not a natIonal database of who has gotten the vaccine? Tracks doses administered, where, to who, timing, etc.

you would think that would be step one.

Exactly.  But hey, big tech can’t be trusted.  So no on that.   I’m just pissed because you know vaccines are going unused right now.

Yeah. I’m on the tarrytown list as well as my gp. I assume that H-E-B took a centralized delivery and then will have to ship to the individual stores thus the individual stores are in the dark.

On a whim, I called my doctor's office this morning to see what steps I had to take, etc in order to get a vaccination. Do I sign up, and wait for a call?  Just set an appointment and come right in? (I'm Phase 2, but I suspect that will become just a suggestion in the coming weeks).

I was told there is no plan, the office does not have a vaccine, has no other information on a Covid vaccine,  and if I needed more information, call 211 on my phone.

I might as well have consulted Google.

HEB is also going to be getting shipments to vaccinate their own employees.  I don't know if it has already started, but it's going to happen in the near future if it hasn't.

I was scheduled to get mine today!

BUT!

I now have to wait the January 7th because my assistant tested positive yesterday!

She’s the person I work closest with so I have to make sure I didn’t get it before taking the vaccine.

I swear to god, if I have gone 10 months without catching this and literally catch it THE WEEK I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE VACCINATED..........

Good luck.  I have followed a lot of your posts and you are always spot on.  Hoping for the best for you.

I had an ablation for Afib at St David’s here in Austin on Monday and asked.  But they were still vaccinating the staff, which is understandable.  You guys are the hero’s.

As a follow up.  I’m on the list at Tarrytown and 38th Street pharmacy.  Both have them on their website.  I’m 1b(diabetic).  Who knows.  But at least those places have a dang list.

My wife works in the vaccine division of a major pharma.  Drug store chains are her business.

There's a genital cancer drug on the market that requires two doses.  That's working fine.

There are drugs that need extreme refrigeration.  Not a big deal.

She's baffled.  You wonder if Jared is involved, like he was with the PPE distribution that went so well.
