He -drove- from the White House to Blair House? It’s literally across the street and next door.

Who would even think to do that?

In a motorcade

They should buy some Walmart fat scooters for those across the street trips and long hallways..  Probably only cost $100K each.

Reasons he used a motorcade for 250 yards:

1. Melania wears stilettos everywhere she goes.

2. Bone spurs.

3. He is a fat fuck and the thigh rubbing would cause a pants fire at that distance...maybe possible explosion if he farts.

4. His origami comb-over might come undone.

Player came up with reason 4, the likely explaination.

He probably has a golf cart to move him inside the WH. You can't possibly expect the fittest President in American history to walk 250 yards in one day. That's Marvel comics superhero stuff.

Not to defend Trump (shudder), but were there security reasons why the cheetoed one took a car?

Are there different security reasons this time around compared to when Obama and Xi Jinping made that walk in 2015?

Probably so he could eat a cheeseburger in private.

The secret service probably never wants the president to walk on a street but you can’t tell me that the president can’t override their request.

The hair. It’s always about that combover.

Of all the myriads of legitimate criticisms we are going to hang our hat this week on “didn’t walk but rode in a vehicle-gate”?

This is nothing more than a “tan suit” moment where the deranged other side is bent out of shape disproportionately about decorum.

There is nothing wrong with a tan suit. This however is lazy and wasteful and worth a mention. And nobody is hanging their hat on this -- the point being made here is part of a total critique; that the Trump presidency is a continuous stream of the obnoxious, the absurd and the unseemly. Every act ranging from the questionable to the grotesque, every one.

Some of you are really quick to criticize the hero who was not able to fight in Vietnam because he was dealing with really painful bone spurs. Maybe you should try walking a mile in his shoes driving a 1/4 mile in his motorcade.

This is the correct explanation.

Tan suit is more like red Christmas trees.

Motorcade-gate is uber douchebaggery.

Like the joke from LA Story where Steve Martin hops in the car, like the proverbial spoiled LA airhead, simply to pull up across the street.

Some near trump have stated that he believes that a person is given only a set amount of physical energy to exert in a lifetime.  Walking 250 yards in DC could eliminate a future round of golf for him.

This isn’t about decorum. How do you even fit a motorcade into this space?

Stand in front of the front gate that White House visitors and employees use, facing out, as if you had just left.

Walk 200 feet to your left.

Cross the street.

You have arrived at Blair House.

The motorcade, with space between cars, is longer than the length of the walk from the White House grounds to Blair House.

I will give trump some slack in that every incoming president drives from the blair house to the WH on the morning of their inauguration.

Personally I like the Little Red Ridinghood American-Soviet Horror Story Xmas motif. And if Obama wants to dress like a rat packer in a Cuban casino, so be it.

Well when you pay $19.95 for a U-Haul, you sure ain't gonna waste it.

Nah, other Presidents wore tan suits... although admittedly not while simultaneously being black...but no FLOTUS has ever decorated the WH with blood red Christmas trees.

However, I agree that it got too much coverage. The only real surprise was that they weren't gold.

are we allowed to make fun of him for the 75 million on golf, or for Melania's $175k hotel bill for a trip that did not include an overnight stay?

Is it a decorum criticism if I think it's fucked that trump couldn't muster more than a literal minute of contact with the Bush's and pretty much just shook their hands then left?

Wow. Such solemn. Very respectful.

Sad the one thing nearly all seem to agree. - the less we ask of him to convey basic human sentiments the better.

Motrocade-gate just strikes me as one of those things that act as Rorshach test. You will see in it what you already think and feel about someone in an exercise of bias confirmation. You like the guy and you will say, "Oh well, he's a President and it's security detail and reasons and he's too important and has enemies and blah blah blah", if you don't like him, it's "he's a fatty and he's lazy and entitled and the horror!". Which, the last criticism is fine, it's just such a minor detail and accounting error of the overall Trump experience that I'm surprised people are spending the BTU's to think and talk about it, myself now included.

Dude. You are being tedious and obtuse. This is a very small space being discussed. The motorcade is too big to fit. In other words, how does the drive take that length?

The President taking a car the length of a football field really doesn't surprise me, nor does it move the needle for me in terms of controversial subject matter.

The real story here is just how fucking lazy our President is.

I was thinking more like the Andy Griffith Show scene from the episode "Barney on the Rebound", where he gives the pretty lady a police car escort to the post office across the street to impress her.

Ok, but he took -8- cars the length of a football field.

The president is pleading for China to institute Duterte level draconianism and nobody cares.

Oh, I know.  Protocol and whatnot probably dictates that.

But still.  He's fucking lazy.  And he doesn't really care about optics and protocol and whatnot.  He is to be served, and the rest just doesn't matter.

Shit, he probably got a chubb over the fact they had to corral 8 cars and block off a street just so he could be hauled a block.

Agreed. I didn’t get upset with him for blowing off the WWI ceremony and I won’t get upset with him for having minimal involvement in the Bush funeral. I won’t complain when the Bush family doesn’t have a clown making balloon animals at it either.  It’s a wise choice to distance himself from anything involving real character or sacrifice. The contrast is too sharp.

You think that fat fuck walks 250 yards per round? He drives his cart onto the goddamn green, for Christ's sake.

More like 2-3 rounds. Maybe even a whole week's worth of golf.

I think so much of what he does now just goes ignored because every day less and less people take him seriously.  Both here and abroad.  If this were a standalone incident, it would get more airplay.  But it isn't.  We all know his character by now, and this is just another example to pile on with the other 5000 or so we already have.

To me the real story is he feels he is King and should be treated as such.  Kings do not walk like common men, they take carriages.  If he felt it was more regal to walk, then he would.

But the Secret Service might have pushed the regal motorcade, because once he got outside the gate on foot, no telling where he might ramble.   He truly does come off at times like a senile person who just blanks out and wanders off.  He might have walked right past the Blair House, causing yet another embarrassing moment to be caught on video.

I was thinking about his anti-Mueller tweets last night. What if Mueller comes out and says, "hey, we found all these people guilty of wrongdoing but we couldn't find anything on the president himself. He's an innocent man." What does trump say then?

Which makes it even more obvious that he's guilty of something. You're not just going to attack your accuser unless he has the goods on you.
