I thought I read or heard he doesn't want a head coaching job. Enjoys being a coordinator

How bout he becomes the head coach behind the scene? Like when Tony soprano let's jr take over in name only.

Wasn't it said that he didn't want a head coach gig?

He'll probably get sick of carrying shitty offenses. Penn State paid a DC what, 3mil?

Sure, but why was Texas in that situation? The Texas defense let KY drive down the field multiple times from the very start of the game, and got worn down. #107 offense KY had more than double the TOP, 26 first downs, 395 yards, multiple 3rd down conversions over and over again, failed to contain Boley, etc. Reality is the defense could not get off the field against a sorry offense.

Yes, they made a great goal line stand, but allowed KY to get to the goal line in 3 plays. And let them get in field goal range in 51 seconds. (Thanks to coach and players for not running out the clock) Thankfully Stoops is a lot dumber than his brother. That game is a C+ for the defense at best. Of course the offense was an F-. Niblett is what won that game.

Kentucky had a false start that didn’t get called on one of their 1st down plays on the last drive.  Also if Moore had stayed in bounds, Kentucky would have had almost no time left.

Probably need Texas Defense to get 2+ takeaways vs Miss State for a shot to Win this Saturday.

Sure hope we generate more 3 and outs by Miss State offense...  frustrating watching Kentucky convert so many 3rd downs into 1st downs...   😬

And they held them scoreless in the first half. They keep the total under 14. Are you fucking kidding me?

Really frustrating bend but don't break Texas defensive effort in 2024 game. Hope the TOP disparity isn't 10mins in Miss State's favor again like 2024.

Gotta stop Miss State offense better on 3rd downs...

It’s a quibble when compared to the state of the Offense, but it’s starting to become a worrying trend how we’re playing pass defense. The dreaded off coverage from the corners gave up such easy slants and curls and we played way too much man coverage. There were plays were they threw a short hitch or bubble screen and the safety was so late they picked up a long first down. Feels like early years PK mixed with Akina inability to teach zone.

Not sure how or why it changed, but we overwhelmed their line in 2H. Shut down run game, got after that bitch QB. Had the one big play, otherwise, we dominated.

Defense realized our offense had a chance to get us back in the game

"Dominated" is a strong word when they still gave up touchdown drives of 80 and 75 yards in the second half.  "Less awful" might be more like it.

What we learned last night is that the Florida performance can no longer be written off as an anomaly.  This defense is capable of mostly shutting down Ohio State and ou, and they are also capable of getting lit up by far lesser offenses.  The only silver lining is that the pair of meltdowns were both true road games, and we only have one of those left.

Giving up one drive in a half is very good. The other "drive" you mentioned was a single busted play.

But im not so much talking about that. Im talking about rewatching it last night. Their O's confidence and ability was completely gone. We bullied them up front, LBs played very sharp, CBs had an OK quarter but play up front masked any issues.

And MSST's offense does not suck. They're not great and we really fucked up to give them 38 last night, but we did find it eventually.

I believe PK prefers zone coverage in the backfield, typically.

Akina was always known to be a poor teacher or designer of zone backfields.  Great coverage and individual player coach, but his zone Ds always sucked.  I seem to recall particularly at safety positions.

So this seems to be a sub-optimal combination.

The linebackers are generally pretty terrible in zone as well. They cover grass not receivers. Lefau in particular had a bad game yesterday with meaningless coverage drops and poor angles.
