Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

Whatever is happening at 1 pm is already done and could be happening right now. But power brokers gonna broker power.

I'd love for you to explain yourself here, with all of your relevant experience.

The fact of the matter is, announcements matter if you want attention. We could have done Tuesday morning for maximum efficiency, but we chose this afternoon because:
1.) Every single fucking day counts in regards to this stuff, and we need eyeballs
2.) Monday morning is a fuckjob logjam of press releases going out and shit gets overlooked.

But I'd be delighted to hear about all this "power brokering" insight you have in regards to this stuff.

Check your meter. That was a serious response to a ridiculous post.

I got it. I am just raging at Mack Brown again. Call it PTSD.

Would it be racist to give Mack the name "Mr. Buttersworth?" I know Mrs. Buttersworth is not acceptable these days.

Gilbert was a 5 star the high school player of the year and a guy literally everyone would have gladly inked. It clearly didn’t go well but it wasn’t a recruiting miss. Changing the offense was terminally stupid.

Yeah, that was the year Texas wanted one of Gilbert or Russell Shepard.  Neither had a great career at QB in college.  Shepard did play several years in the NFL as a WR and Gilbert does have a Super Bowl ring.

Sure. If it’s done, announce it.  We aren’t curing cancer here, it is a message for a very specific audience so get the message moving to that audience. Who cares if it comes out around the same time as the Oregon coach leaving for Miami news.

Shepard never really got a fair shot at QB at LSU. Les Miles lied to him.

He played the most dominant game I have ever seen by a single player in HS. And he was a really nice kid.

You don't drop something into the Monday morning news cycle unless it's globally critical or you want it washed out in the post-weekend noise. In this case, short of murder or a coaching change, not much besides the playoffs and the games from the prior weekend are relevant to anyone talking/writing about CFB. It has nothing to do with "power brokers". Look, if you don't have a fucking clue how press-related shit works, that's no big deal, but the rest of us don't want to sit here and read about it.

Every news outlet cares. And lets go ahead and assume that the very specific audience, like say the Texas coaching staff, MIGHT already be aware of it and using it. So your point is probably a bit moot.

I mean, the other consideration is that a collective of folks, some of which have been doing this kind of thing for decades, might know what they're doing.

from people around the hs program - he exceeded already ski high expectations this year. Don't think he had allowed a sack through 2nd round of playoffs or something silly.  He's the real deal with no weaknesses to his game - he'll contribute day 1 wherever he goes.

Certainly fits our preferred narrative - but plenty of folks think he is a better prospect than T brockermeyer last year. Lots of smoke to Texas being in lead position should he decommit from Oregon, but I've been hurt too many times to fall for it. Maybe the NIL stuff will swing the needle.

Spoiler

Defensive back Marques Caldwell entered the portal this morning. That’s yet another reminder of heavy roster turnover. Expect the portal to see a consistent flow of UT entrants this week.

Right now our main focus is recruiting. These are WILD times in recruiting coverage. We have damn near 55 years combined covering this stuff and haven’t seen anything like this cycle and its potential finish.

S/ATH Kendrick Law, Shreveport (La.) Captain Shreve - 2022: Texas hosted the 5-foot-11, 185-pound safety/athlete over the weekend. On3 spoke with a family member Monday morning. The family member that was on hand for the visit said Texas did a very good job making its case, and presenting the university in a great way. Texas safeties coach Blake Gideon is expected in-home Wednesday. On3 believes the Longhorns are still working from a position of weakness in this recruitment. Alabama HC Nick Saban and FSU HC Mike Norvell will make in-home visits Monday with the Law family. LSU head coach Brian Kelly made his first contact with Law on Sunday. Law’s family has yet to speak with Kelly. Law is scheduled to make an official visit to LSU this weekend.

A tangential note to this recruitment, Steve Sarkisian has not scheduled an in-home visit with Larry Turner-Golden as of late Sunday afternoon.

OL Kelvin Banks, Summer Creek (Humble, TX) (OREGON) - 2022: The 6-foot-5, 315-pound On3 five-star has a lot to think about lately. With Oregon coach Mario Cristobal looking Miami bound, IT briefly caught up with the No. 19 overall prospect in the 2022 rankings.

Does the potential Cristobal to Miami news change anything for Banks? "Yes sir," said Banks. "If it is finalized, it will."

Banks tripped to Austin and College Station recently and has no problem staying closer to home if needed. In fact, we still feel like that's a big factor down the stretch regardless of what happens with Cristobal.

Texas and Steve Sarkisian are looking to see Banks in-home sometime this week.

LSU is expected to try with Brad Davis remaining on staff in Baton Rouge.

OL Devon Campbell, Bowie (Arlington, TX) - 2022: The On3 No. 22 overall prospect and No. 1 IOL in the country is gearing for another trip to the west coast.

The news Campbell will make an official visit this weekend to USC adds more intrigue to this recruitment. He opted for USC and Lincoln Riley, without an offensive line coach, over Georgia and LSU. Campbell really likes the Los Angeles vibe, that is known. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian will make his in-home visit either Wednesday or Thursday.

As it stands now Nick Saban doesn’t have an in-home scheduled.

The five-star‘s recruitment is boiling down to Texas, Southern California, or Alabama. Sources indicate he’s being pulled in a couple directions.

He is yet another reminder how huge this week is for Sark and Flood.

OL Cam Williams, Duncanville (Duncanville, TX) (OREGON) - 2022: With Oregon's Mario Cristobal looking headed to Miamia, the 6-foot-5, 350-pound monster of the interior is still on the Horns big board. As of Sunday midday, Cristobal was scheduled to be in-home with Williams on Thursday night. If you'll remember the last time IT stopped by Duncanville, the staff mentioned how Texas would recruit Williams until he signs. Now, they're looking for Steve Sarkisian to lock down an in-home this week. That is expected Wednesday or Thursday. People in the Duncanville program are expected to sit down with Williams this week and discuss his plans should Cristobal head to Miami today.

Assuming Cristobal leaves, this could become a battle between UT and A&M.

OL Malik Agbo, Todd Beamer (Federal Way, WA) - 2022: After UT and Kyle Flood tripped to the Pacific Northwest to see the On3 consensus four-star last week, Agbo tells IT the visit went real well. The 6-foot-5.5, 320-pounder has a top schools list - Texas, Auburn, Miami, and OU - but UT and Auburn look to set the pace.

At this time, Steve Sarkisian has yet to schedule his in-home with Agbo. That might tell us how confident the UT staff is on the other priority offensive linemen in the 2022 cycle. It might not. Something to monitor.

OT/IOL Neto Umeozulu, Allen (Texas) - 2022: Like Campbell, Umeozulu is a little confused according to a college coach that spoke with the 6-foot-4, 285-pounder late last week. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian used his in-home last week. IT believes Lincoln Riley was in home at some point in the last 2-3 days. Texas, USC and Alabama are considered the front-runners in a recruitment that will keep everyone guessing.

CB Denver Harris, North Shore (Houston, TX) - 2022: Jeff Banks and Terry Joseph worked this recruitment much of Friday, ending with their attendance at North Shore’s playoff game. Jimbo Fisher went in-home on Saturday which led to some outlets stating Harris was down to A&M and LSU. IT is not ready to say Texas is out of it, or any other high priority recruitment, but we’re making another pass on getting the most up to the minute information.

EWERS.... A source close to the On3 2021 five-star says despite his scheduled trip to TCU today, it's a two-horse race between the Horns and Red Raiders. Source also mentioned Ewers wants to bring a few recruits with him from the 2022 cycle, and that might factor into his decision at the end of the day.

Upon hearing the news Quinn Ewers was in the portal, Steve Sarkisian immediately went to Southlake Carroll to visit with Ewers and his parents. The meeting lasted at least 3 hours.

Texas Tech seems to have a lot of confidence. Meanwhile, Texas sources seem fairly confident as well. However, it would be a mistake to think Ewers will pick Texas simply because it makes sense on paper. It will need to make sense on the balance sheet as well.

As hard as it is to believe, Tech’s confidence is founded from our perspective. They seemed to have the jump on this and have presented a coordinated front.

As of yesterday, someone on the Tech side told a trusted source they [Tech] were in the recruitment but had no formal agreement.

Back to UT optimism, our source mentioned it’s not likely they’d miss out over financial considerations.

If Flood get commits from Williams, Banks, and Campbell this week, is he eligible for a Bad Motherfucker Award?

Lucky is probably a better description, but maybe Flood makes his own luck? For all the hate we have for Oregon and Ohio State over the last few years (Cristobal leaving Miami, and Day being an idiot with his QB room) these events could save our class and really change trajectory for the program.

Funny thing momentum is though. Should Texas land Ewers - you may get a crack at Stewart. Should the NIL stuff swing the needle and get you a Banks/Williams - you may also get a Dewberry.  In that event you gotta like our shot at Campbell - and then you have a nice OL to sell Arch on.
